How much do you spend on one outfit?

Aug 14, 2011

    1. It depends on the outfit. Usually I use the natural fabric, but nevertheless the most expensive things in the costume are accessories and props (handmade or not), jewelry and weapons, so the full outfit may costs about $300-500.

    2. I've spent $50 on a dress for a JerryBerry. I think that will be a one off thing and I generally try not to spend much more than $30 for item/s of clothing.

    3. I just spent $160 on a dress, but I think it's super nice... I think it's worth spending money on good clothes if they're really high quality and well-designed... after all, the base doll is already a hefty chunk of change. it doesn't make sense to me to buy a really expensive doll and then dress them in poorly-designed rags because I'm feeling stingy. might as well just go all in, haha.

    4. I bought my first outfit for my incoming doll from Tata. Shirt, Pants, Underwear, and shoes (Wig too, but that isn't an outfit...I don't think), and it set me back a little over 70$ excluding shipping.

The clothes I plan on buying the DZ Baixuan I am saving for are likely going to get me back over 100, since the outfit I want costs a bit over 60, and the jacket I want for her from Nine9 style is about....47 I think(?)

    5. I don't think that's bad at all for an outfit with 6 pieces, personally, especially if it's well-made. It might seem a lot to drop in one go on one listing, but to buy a whole outfit piece by piece, it would probably cost about the same, or more.
For example, my Blythe is currently wearing jeans that cost $10, a top that cost $8, boots that cost $7, a knitted cardigan that cost $54 (the detail on it is extraordinary), a hat that cost $15 and a cameo that cost $3.
So that's $97 all together, not including postage on each item bought individually. But I never really thought of it like that until I worked it out just now, because it's easier to drop $10 here and there instead of getting it all in one big chunk.

      Flippin' cute outfit, though!

    6. It really depends on what kind of outfit it is. For a simple pajama or an everyday outfit I think around $50 is enough. But for something with more complicated design it may very well go over $300. Personally, I care very much about the quality so I think the doll's outfit is just slightly more expensive than humen's (mine).

    7. Im a doll heart fan but seriously I don't put a price limit on my "kids" clothing. A good deal is always awesome but I dont go I'm going to spend this much on one outfit and no more. High Quailty outfits are wroth the price seeing as they look so well and are usually hand made.

    8. It definitely depends on the item, for me. I think the most I've spent on a single item was $80 - but that was for a handmade satin-lined wool trenchcoat for an SD boy. The quality is excellent and it's made with actual wool - and as someone who has spent $180+ on human-sized coats it's not so extreme. (Both were special cases though - I wouldn't buy a stack of such items, but my two expensive human-sized coats are related to fandoms. One was a custom-made replica of Sherlock Holmes's coat from the BBC series...)

I think the comments about per-item costs of an outfit are a very fair observation. I will usually spend $5-20 on things like shirts and trousers for my more modern outfits, but I plan to sew fantasy costumes from actual silk and leather and velvet... I'm getting my fabrics from sales and the like, but to buy the sort of outfit I plan to make would cost a fortune and I wouldn't expect any less.

    9. I have had some expensive custom clothing made for my Luna Tamer and my off topic Kay Wiggs dolls. There is an awesome person here on DoA, Marishka of Poland, whose clothes are STUNNING yet very affordable in the $50-$100 range. Recentyl I commissioned a fabulous dress from her that was quite a bit more but was beyond beautiful. She worked from my written description. It was perfect.

I also purchased a custom made gown from another DoA artist. I was a waiting list for over a year and the dress was $300 but it is incredible. I
think I like buying the clothes as much as I like the dolls.

BTW...I would NEVER buy myself an item that expensive.

    10. I spend for one аутфит $100-150. I love firm clothes.

    11. If I can't make it myself, I try to stay below $35 unless it has a lot of different pieces or happens to be of high quality.

    12. I have purchased a suit from Luts for $110. Usually I try to stay below $50 but one doll "owns" an outfit that was $86. Dollheart outfit. I think a jacket I bought for another was $75 but it's rare for me to spend so much.

    13. I'm a sucker for amazing handmade OOAK outfits so have spent big $$$ on full outfits on ebay. I've also bought from Dollheart, they have some beautiful stuff. So basically, my dolls wear much more expensive clothes than what I do. I wish I could find stuff I like for cheaper but the style that I like is always expensive.

    14. Dollheart has a new dress I really want for $89,and I would pay that in a heartbeat if only it came in MSD size. But it's only for SD sized dolls :(
There is also an Onlydoll outfit for $71 and I've been thinking about buying it but I'm not sure yet.
The most I've ever spent on a single outfit is $18,and I wasn't happy with it so I'm hesitant to spend a lot of money on doll clothes.

    15. I'm a sucker for DollHeart clothes because they're really well made and put together nicely, so I am willing to spend quite a bit on some nice, high quality outfits. :)

    16. My most expensive outfit cost 285$ (including the shoes). In my opinion the quality was more than worth the price :whee:.

    17. I'm going to order clothes despite their price. I think it is too expensive if it is done badly or single piece of clothing, like socks or top.

    18. I don't like to pay for clothes.. ): But that's part of the hobby, and it brings out the dolls personality so it has to happen. The most I have spent on a doll outfit was like $54.00 on Denverdoll for a DollZone outfit, and $12.00 shoes on ebay. And I know that's not the last time I will pay that much for an outfit.... :)

    19. I either search eBay for cheaper clothes, browse the toy section at Walmart, or I make it myself. Making clothes is the cheapest option for me cause I just use old shirts of mine. And I've learned a lot about clothing and design too. As a broke bud hobbyist I wouldn't spend over $30 for an outfit if I bought it.

    20. I usually do knitting for dolls for sale, and can spend earned money for new dolls or outfits.
It depends on what i need this time - wigs, clothes, or doll shoes...
Of course, using ebay is cheaper, but sometimes i buy expensive original outfits.
