1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How much do you spend on one outfit?

Aug 14, 2011

    1. It depends.
Mostly I'm a quality lover. Not only should the fabric be nice, but I also want it to look in the right on the doll. I've paid more than $200 for an outfit, but it's not my standard price.
But I also have several lower quality items in my clothing collection. Some items are okay in lesser quality, other need to be super quality, if I should even bothered buying it.

But sometimes it's possible to find great quality at low prices. :D

    2. I got everyone (17) dressed with 1-2 wig, eyes, shoes etc., in inexpensive but cute clothes from Alice's Collections, but with the idea to slowly collect nice outfits for them as time passed. Having everyone at least decent frees me to buy this or that special item for one as it comes out, like the new Dollheart/MOC Fer, i wanted it right away and layed it away. I dont mind spending $150 on an outfit that I know took hours of work that I might not want to make. I'm a sucker for tiny pleats, wee sewn buttons, really time consuming handwork and detail. I think I'll balk over that price for a bit but I sure was looking at some lolita brand collaborations with Volks in a split recently too, so 'the madness' may come upon me to get one of those...

    3. It's a tough decision.. As an artist, I can look at something and value the craftsmanship, the materials, the time; then decide if it's a design or style idea that I like or that particular product. I ask myself if I want to try to make my own version of the outfit. With so many talented people in this world, I think many people approach this issue by thinking, "Could I do that myself for a fraction of the cost?" That fraction is usually for the cost of materials and doesn't account for the time. Time spent creating is usually why outfits or artwork in general are costly. We scoff at our own time spent in creative pursuit, but cringe when it comes to paying for some other person's time. Shoes, I would say $25; clothes, I would say $35. Shoes are so much more difficult to make and the companies in existence make such insanely adorable ones.

    4. For brand clothing, that's he norm as far as I can tell. Unless I suddenly come into a large sum of money, I'm just going to continue to sew my own clothes. It's a really useful skill, and it total customization.

    5. I've had my doll less than a month and so far I've only bought one outfit for him (the rest I made, was given, or swapped for). I spent $45 on a shirt, pants, and vest. I probably wouldn't spend much more than that, especially since I prefer to sew my own clothes for him, though for a nice suit for my eventual grail doll I'd be willing to spent probably up to $100.

    6. I like having things I can piece together with other items to make up a complete outfit, because then it feels like more of a good deal. I haven't bought already put together outfits for just one doll, but I would consider spending probably between $50-$60 on an outfit if it was something I really wanted. Outside of that is out of my comfort zone.
My dolls outfits are pieced together and I would say that all together they cost $40-$60 an outfit, including a shirt/hoodie, jeans, shoes, and accessories.

    7. I have yet to buy an outfit set for my doll or either of my two incoming dolls. However, I did just spend $52 on a bunch of separates. I got 4 tanktops, 3 pairs of stockings, a plaid skirt, and a checkered shirt for that price - for 9 pieces, I'm pretty happy with that.
