1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How much harder is it to sell a doll without a COA?

Nov 16, 2021

    1. When I received my lucky bag doll from Ringdoll, I did not get a COA with the doll nor anything stating what sculpt the head is. I am planning on selling the doll in the future as sadly she doesn't fit with my collection.

How much of an impact will the lack of COA have? I still have the original company box and emails from when I bought the doll, should that help?

    2. It really depends on your buyer. Some will not buy a doll at all without one, some will for a lowered price, and some won't care at all. The box and proof of purchase will prove legitimacy, which will definitely help.

    3. Like they said above, depends on the buyer. Showing receipts can help too! And if they have a head cap with the symbol like some companies do.

    4. I have never had a problem selling a doll without a certificate. I think theres a certain level of trust here on DOA because recasts are banned. It's not like buying from ebay where you never know what you're going to get. It also helps (I think) if you have a positive feedback page! Receipts as Swifty said work as well in lots of cases.

    5. It also depends on the doll! Something commonly recasted like a Fairyline or Soom will be harder to sell without a CoA versus something which is from a company of which recasts are unknown (many older and defunct categories or unpopular sculpts fall into this category, and some of these companies didn’t actually give out CoAs to begin with). Though as a caveat, the reason those dolls didn’t catch the eye of money-hungry recasters is because they aren’t especially in vogue, so in those cases you might need to wait a little longer to find an interested buyer for that reason.

    6. Plenty of companies do not include COAs with their dolls, and even if they do now, not all of them always have. If you have other reasons to believe that the doll you have might be a recast I would not risk it.
Like Swifty and Starry City said, having as much information about the doll's history as possible is your best bet to squash any doubts of the doll's legitimacy. Knowing the year, sculpt, type, etc and verifying the details is something you can do. Receipts of purchase, screenshots, verifying previous owners, etc. I had someone trace a doll all the way back to me as the original owner after the doll had gone through a few sales and ask me about it's legitimacy.

    7. AFAIK Ringdoll do not send out proper CoAs, or not consistently at least, that's what I have been told when I got my head last year. I only got a brochure and postcards and the original packaging. So potential buyers would know this, if they've done their due research. I wouldn't worry^^ (You do have your invoice for the lucky bag as well, if you really need additional proof.)
