How much sunlight do you allow your doll to get?

Feb 28, 2005

    1. When not being "messed with" Ferris sits on my shelf that has her bed and closet on, no sunlight hits it.
But most of the time she is always with me, which would be outside or just sitting in the living room.
Most of my photoshoots are done outside, and its how ive always done it, and ive no problems with the sun damaging Ferris *knocks on wood*
Maybe im doing it right...or maybe its just a myth..or maybe nothing has happened yet xD

    2. I don't take my girl out with me during the day but she does sit with me on the couch about 25ft from a window which the blinds to don't work
I think that since it's not very strong sunlight that reaches her and it's so far from her that it isn't doing her resin much damage if any

    3. None my doll is a full on vampire after I finish playing with him he goes back in the box. I don't even let him sit on my dresser (yes I am that paranoid lol)

    4. Yeah that pretty much direct sunlight. I keep my doll away from the sun. If your worries about your dolls getting to much sun. try purchasing a floating shelf that dosn't require screws and place it high up on your wall, i've seen this used for my friends dolls that have pets who likes to eat their items they want to keep safe. Even though your carful, any sunlight will eventually fade or change your doll. so anywhere but the window is a good place.

I've been told that long exposure to sunlight can damage the skin or make it fade, so sitting in the sunlight for hours on end could do that, but taking it out in the sun now and then your not letting your doll just stay stationary so that would be ok i think.

      Hope that helps.

    5. um...almost never I guess ._.
I'm too afraid of my dolls going yellow, so I seal them and put them in the case.
I only take them out during night
I also bought UV-cut sprays to prevent yellowing.

    6. Hmmm.. very little. I would say none, but I bring him out to the living room and he sits on the couch not far from the windows. The closest ones are usually closed but there is still some light getting through.
I try to cover him when he's out with a blanket though...
When not out in the living room, he's in a wardrobe in my room. The sun has yet to breach it, so it's good~
I would never take him out and sit in my room... It has so many windows and nothing covering them...

    7. I've kept my dolls on their boxes for the moment, but I can't help to sat them near me when I work on the computer. But I don't want them to be out all the time, to afraid of the yellowing of doom !

    8. I usually keep my doll in a shady area near my bed or on her box. My blinds are usually drawn so there's not much sunlight coming into my room anyway. Only sometimes when I take pictures I put her in a better-lighted area, but never for more than 5-10 minutes.

    9. none, bagged or boxed always unless its taking photos

    10. They generally don't get much sunlight; although they're always hanging out in my room I'm very sun-shy myself so I rarely open my windows when it's bright outside and even if I do they're kept out of the light's way to keep safe. I have no inhibition to take them out for photos though, just a little bit of sunlight isn't going to hurt.

    11. My dolls never get any sunlight, my whole room gets no sunlight. The shutters are always closed. The only get sunlight during very few outside photo shoots during the year.

    12. I do not like the idea of doll "sheet" to cover them. It's like, treating them like a corpse. (Perhaps I watched too much detective dramas) But I can't let the yellowing happen. So I made a bed for them so that I can cover them will blanket with pillows.

    13. If you keep the blinds shut during hours of direct sunlight, your dolls shouldn't yellow very quickly. They will probably yellow faster than dolls kept in a box or anti-UV glass case, but that won't be the end of the world :)

I currently keep all my dolls in their boxes, and they still slowly yellow. My 2009 Cuprit is noticeably ivory-coloured compared to my paper-white 2012 Clozel. Luckily, I think the ivory colour is still very pretty, and it still looks white against darker colours. The yellowing would probably only bother me if I wanted to dress her in pure white clothing or have her wear a pur white wig.

    14. My dolls have never been in the sun,and my oldest doll is yellowing. I actually think she looks better with the yellowing because it's kind of a peachy-yellow. I just got lucky with that I think.

    15. My girl doesn't get sunlight alot because of my fear of yellowing, but if she needs to be outside to go to a doll meet and/or other events then she can be outside in the light as long as it's not for a long time.

    16. None. I live in a house that gets very little but I make sure that what does come in doesn't touch the dolls, ever. I even put sheets up over the back of my open bookcases if they are on there even though we have blinds and that side of the house doesn't get much sun. I don't carry them around outside uncovered et all. They get some lights from being in the house and lamps but I don't sit them under one if I can help it unless I am photographing them. That being said I've had some yellow anyhow. A lot of my dolls are vinyl and they have not aged well, shrug.

    17. I always try to be careful about how much light exposure they get. My only exceptions are for very occasional, quick photoshoots. Usually, if they are sitting out, they go in a shadowy nook, completely out of direct sunlight. I try to keep artificial light away too, since I've heard that can cause yellowing over time. Sometimes, if I am not ready to put them in their boxes, I will drape some thick hoodies over them for protection. At doll meets, you can't always help the light conditions, but everyone there understands the importance of keeping direct sunlight off.

    18. I live in Kansas, where the sun is bright and brutal 9 onths a year. My friend visited for 3 weeks, only took her dolls out a couple times, but swore they were already yellowing from the sun and heat. Therefor, I have already accepted that my dolls will yellow a little faster than usual, which doesn't realy bother me. It's hard to restrict the sun, especially since the safest room for my dolls is the room i draw, so they get a lot of indirect light

    19. I take them out for short, sunny photoshoots now and then. Mostly they live on shelves in my basement where they get no sun at all.

    20. My boys live in a converted TV cabinet in my room. I knocked out a shelf for space and added a curtain rail to the front which I hang a long scarf over. It means I can get at them easily as I look at/play with them multiple times a day and would not like them shut away. I take them outside for photo's or to metups but never stay long in the sun.
