How often do you bring your doll outside?

Feb 6, 2013

    1. I sometimes bring mine outside... but not too often, I'd be afraid something would happen.

    2. I take my dolls out only when I'm going for meet-ups or a photoshoot. I take public transport everywhere, so lugging my 60cm dolls around without any clear purpose is too much of a hassle.

I usually dress them up for the shoot beforehand, and bring only the stuff I need. I'm always actively "supervising" them when they're out of the carrier, so I'm not too worried about grabby hands. And I have no problems with having sunlight incidentally fall on them since I'm constantly moving them around.

If I had a BJD friend amongst my circle of close friends, I think I'd take my dolls out a lot more and to farther places. But for now I'm limited to what I can carry around and where public transport can take me!

ETA: Different terrains - I've typically limited myself to urban settings, but would take usual cleanliness and safety precautions when putting dolls in trees, beach, water, etc. Be extra careful when posing them, and make sure clothes and elastic are clean and dry afterwards -- all common sense! Otherwise, I don't see any harm in putting dolls in different settings. The payoff is worth the trouble!

    3. I brought my girl outside for the first time this weekend, I got pretty lucky because it started raining about 2 minutes after I took her back inside. I've had her for a few months now and I was super worried about taking her outside but it ended up being really fun!

    4. I brought my small doll to work a few times as my coworkers and some regulars there wanted to see him :kitty2 I kept him in his doll box until I needed to take him out and left him downstairs in a locker so he would be safe and out of the way. When I had him out I was sure careful to keep him out of the way and away from anything messy or wet, but I loved taking pictures of him around the menus, beer tap handles, and even plaques we had from having such great beer ;) I'd love to bring my other doll but she's much bigger so I would need a carry bag and also probably not during work as she could get in the way :sweat But I am always wanting to bring my dolls everywhere :whee: and would if my boyfriend would let me :|

    5. Personally I dont plan on taking my doll out unless there's a meet I'm headed to...

Im kind of in the BJD closet, i dont really want a lot of people knowing I have them O_O"

    6. They have all been outside on a couple of occasions. Mostly to take pictures :)
Recently I had one of the guys with me when I visited a doll store nearby. He had to come along because of his difficult shoe size lol

    7. I take mine outside, on occasion, to take pictures. I think my favorite was taking them down to a park that had a creek running through it. The terrain was rocky and there were tons of trees, so it was like being in a forest in the middle of the city. I've also taken them to parking lots (it was convenient...lol) and around various apartment complexes. I generally like to take them to a shaded area or out when it's cloudy, because it's easier for me to take pictures that aren't washed out. I'm not too worried about yellowing, and I'm always as careful as possible so they don't topple and get damaged.

    8. Sometimes my fiance, myself, and a friend of ours will take them out with us to go eat--or to take pictures when it's nice outside. Other than that, we take them to each others houses for visits!

    9. I don't do it often, but when I do I don't really worry about yellowing. It's going to happen anyway, and with the infrequency that I do take them anywhere it's likely not going to happen very fast. (My room has blackout curtains and I only use LED bulbs, which helps.) As for other "dangers," like scratches, small falls, sand and such...well, those don't really worry me either. Scratches and pitting can be repaired easily--resin is not porcelain, so I don't let those things stop me from enjoying my dolls the way I want. I'm not even worried about theft because if I do have a doll with me I'm pretty much solidly carrying the thing or have it in a bag.

I'd probably take them out much more often if it wasn't for the fact that I hate drawing attention toward myself.

    10. Depends on te weather for me. Not so much if it's raining. Only a while if it's sunny or snowing, just for shoots.

    11. I rarely bring my dolls outside. I don't want them under the sun too much, they're tiring to carry, and I don't want them to get hurt. I only bring them on vacations.

    12. I dont take them out often, specially the big ones. When you live in a big city its hard to find quiet places (with no crowd) to take the dolls for shootings. But I do take at least one with me when I go in travels. ;)

    13. I know a few hobbyists who have taken their dolls out to have pictures done in the snow, and I haven considered doing so myself. But I'm afraid of any water/sun/whatever damage occurring. The photos I've seen of outdoor shoots can be quite lovely however! So I suppose it's just about being careful and mindful of the sun!

    14. I brought Shard (my AOD Chi) out of the house one time to show him to the lady that works at a local ice-cream parlor. That was it. He spent most of the time inside my bag and was only out for a few minutes.

I haven't brought him or any of my other resin dolls outside at all other than that one time.

    15. I bring them to work, I usually bring one every other week or so. :) I also brought my girl on our company outing to the beach one time! I posted about it here. :)

I am afraid of damaging my dolls of course, but I take all the proper precautions. Here are a few basics:

      - Don't lay then out in the sun too much
      - Use well-padded doll carriers when travelling
      - Use face masks when travelling
      - Wash your hands before handling them
      - Wipe the dolls before storing them
      - Make sure to stand/sit them in a safe place when posing them for photos
      - Be careful when random strangers are lurking around. I've had some close calls with kids almost grabbing my dolls so I had to mention this.

...and the works! I'm extra careful with my dolls to avoid damaging them. But in general, they are sturdy dolls so don't be afraid of bringing them out. :)

    16. I haven't taken my BJD out too many times (and only once during the day and really outside)
but I'd love to take her out more often
of course I'm scared that something will happen to her but I do my best to keep her safe (not too worried about yellowing though since I hate sunlight so we wouldn't be in it for long)

    17. My one and only doll, Angelo, comes with me to a lot of places.

I've taken him to Katsucon twice, and to school a couple of times for the anime club there. I've also taken him to my friend's house, because she has a doll too, and we take pictures of them.

However, wherever I go, he goes too. I don't let him out of my sight, and I have carrier for him and his stuff. I'll put him in the carrier if I'm using the bathroom and stuff like that. My main concerns are grabby hands and him falling to the ground and shattering/ chipping.

I really enjoy taking him outside to take photos, because I have a beautiful back yard with trees and flowers and pretty wildlife. He's just never more than an arm's reach away.

    18. I take my dolls only to meetups really, usually they are either displayed in my room or safe in their boxes. XD

    19. Depends on the doll. I normally try to avoid taking my white skins outside because they yellow easier. I'm a little more lenient on normal skins and darker though. And then there are just some dolls that are for taking outside and some that rarely ever leave the house.

    20. My dolls rarely leaves my home. But I do have plans for the summer if we gets a nice one. Have had some of the dolls out last summer. But the only reason for them to go out is to get pictures of them.
