How often do you bring your doll outside?

Feb 6, 2013

    1. Mine haven't gone out yet, but I'm planning to attend a meetup later this month and one of them will probably go with me. I'm also thinking of attempting a photoshoot in the backyard after the dogwood tree is in bloom.

    2. Over the past four years, never. Before then, eh, every now and then on rare occassions (meetups).

    3. I'm paranoid about damage to my dolls, so they rarely get out of the house.:sweat

    4. Eva, my DZ April, goes to all sorts of places. I don't mind if she yellows because she will never be sold. I've even taken her on a plane to Florida. It was really fun and we both enjoy our selves a lot!

    5. I never have. The thought of them getting dirty or broken is extremely frightening. I work at Disney and I saw a girl once walk by holding her doll.. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER! I couldn't help but stare in shock. I figured she knows what she's doing but eeek! I couldn't. If my pretty ladies got damaged it would be the end of me :(.

    6. I don't know if I'd take Eva to Disney, that place is super crazy all the time lol!! But it might be fun if I wasn't going to go on rides and stuff. I don't know.

    7. I don't take my dolls out except on doll-related outings. They accompany me to doll meetings, obviously, but I also take them with me to fairs if the idea is to find props or fabrics for them there. Funny enough, I've never yet dared to bring them to fabric or crafts stores, though that would be useful. The thing is, I don't dare to show them except in places where people won't stare at me when I produce them. I love my dolls and I'm not ashamed of owning them, but I just don't like it when people look at me funny :(.

    8. It took me a long time not to be uncomfortable being stared at when I had a dolly in my arms! I'm not a shy person but I was teased a ton as a kid so the idea of people pointing at me or staring makes me jumpy. I didn't get use to it till I owned Eva. Then I decied I loved her to much to care any more. It also helps that my partner takes even bigger dollies out them me! Heh.

    9. I took one of mime out once to a book launch because I dressed him as one of the characters. Never again - I was worried the whole time he would get stolen or damaged, or dirty. Lol.

    10. Sometimes I take them outside for photos, but I get everything set up first and get it done as quickly as possible. That way they're only in the sun for a tiny amount of time. And I only take them to private places, like my yard, or the woods, or the beach, so they avoid damage. I just can't resist getting outdoorsy pictures of my resin guys. :D

    11. How often do people bring dolls out of the house, not in doll meetups or conventions, how often do you take your doll out for fun, such as on vacation or on a cruise?

I was just at a meetup in a park yesterday. It was sunny, but we sat in the shade of a tree and were there pretty much all day--like 5 or 6 hours. (Why shouldn't meetups count as bringing a doll outside, btw? It's the same outdoors exposure whether in a group or alone, isn't it???)

I've know people to bring dolls on trips/vacations. I haven't done that--but I do bring dolls to some conventions.

I don't just go carrying my doll around for no particular reason, however. Just for photoshoots, meetups, conventions... Maybe once or twice a year, per doll--so it's not a lot.

I've heard of some pretty frightening stories of dolls being stolen or broken while they are outside, even when in plain view of others. Dolls left out in the UV light also discolour over time. But, is it safe to place dolls in terrains that are different, such as the sand at a beach or in water?

They just get dirty if in sand. Wet in water. If you don't mind that, then OK, but if you do mind, then don't do it. It's up to the owner, I'd think. Same with UV light exposure. Same with bringing dolls out with the chance of breakage or theft.

Dolls probably break more often at home rather than at a meetup, though.

Dolls have been stolen from homes and from cars. Doesn't really matter if they are out or not. Actually, people are more careful when they are actually out and doing something with their doll--like taking photos, etc. It's when they are not focusing on their doll that things can happen. But it's really pretty rare. I've actually lost a couple tiny dolls and a head, but it wasn't from bringing them out. They get lost at home during cleaning or moving or just getting misplaced.

So, where and how often do you take your doll out? Are you ever afraid of harming the doll?

Randomly taking my doll out--I don't do that. You can drop it or forget you have it and leave it somewhere. I really don't want to bother with watching it constantly when I'm out doing something else. If at a meetup--usually it's no problem, since the focus is on the dolls and I and everyone else is watching the dolls. But yeah, there's risk of damage or theft, but as I said, this can happen at your home, too. Most uv damage and breakage happens in the home.

    12. I live in a cold, dark, wet part of the world and my dolls rarely see daylight...but that's true of everyone in Scotland. LOL

    13. I never bring them outside. I afraid that the uv will change the resin color.

    14. I take a doll out with me about once a fortnight or so. I don't take them on trips or anything, just to places where I'd like to photograph them (usually bushland or pretty public spaces). I keep them in their bags when not actively photographing them (to cut down on UV exposure), and always pick places away from people to avoid some of the 'strangers interacting with dolls' horror stories I've read here.

    15. I took my doll this really nice cafe but buy the time I got there I realized they remodeled the whole place and it wasn't nearly as beautiful or calm as it was. I was so disappointed by loud customers :( I always wish I can take doll to cafe during weekdays when there aren't a lot of people.

    16. I never bring my dolls outside because I don't want to get attention from the public because of my doll..
I also don't take my dolls around even in my house, but just keep them in my room. I'm more like, hiding my dolly hobby outside of my room,
because I know people around me, my family and friends who doesn't share the same interest will think that I'm weird..I don't even expect them to understand my hobby. ^^;; my family knows I love dolls though.

and the second reason is about getting damage on my dolls like many ppl saying here.

    17. I take my dolls outside all the time. I've gotten some funny looks from people in the park or the airport, but it's not enough to deter me from taking them places.
