1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Old Are You?

Feb 26, 2014

    1. That...is one of the best descriptions of an old Dollshe butt I've ever seen.

    2. I'm 33, nearly 34 and I started collecting BJDs when I was 26, it really is great to see that this hobby appeals to such a massive age range :)

    3. I'm 43. My 62 yr old Ma has 2 Fairylands. She isn't really interested in joining DoA, but she is going to Dollism with me in Buffalo. We are both really looking forward to that.

    4. I am 47 years old. Collecting dolls since I was a child, having BJD's since 2011.
Never to old for dolls :fangirl: :fangirl: :fangirl:

    5. I'm 28, I started collecting when I was 23 in 2008.

    6. I just turned 31 a few days ago, been a doll collector since childhood, got my first 1/6 Obitsu at 23 and my first resin at 25. I don't think you can ever be too old to have dolls. That's like saying you can be too old to be happy or have fun!

    7. I started this hobby in 2006, but joined the forum in 2007 and I'm 25 now. :)

    8. I'm 55, been a (fashion) doll collector all my life, bjds for about 8 years now. Love my bjds! My kids are grown, and I can finally PLAY again!

    9. "Too old" is not a concept. Age ain't nothing but a number.

I'm 53, and I'll be too old for dolls when I've been dead for ten years.

    10. A POLL would probably be more helpful in finding out how old most of the membership of DoA is... Unless someone is going through this thread and noting all the ages down...!

And, please, why do people keep wanting to know if there is some kind of age limit to enjoying something????

How about this: Death is probably going to be too old for BJDs. But other than that, let people do what they want at whatever age. (Unless it's something illegal, or if you're under-age... and even for most who are under-age, too many restrictions are no good.)

I'm beginning to think some people are Ageists (people who discriminate against people on the basis of age)!!!!!!

    11. There's always people who form biases based on their perception of age. My own (younger) sister likes to harass me about the charms I have on my phone (and I'm sure would do the same for the decal I've since added to the back), but hey, my phone's definitely distinctive in a world of clones, now!

As for answering the initial question, I'm recently 34, and started in this hobby at 28. Almost exactly six years ago, in fact, as I received my first doll in February 2008 (though I didn't join up here until later). My roommate at the time was probably about the same age as I am now, and was the one who dragged me in. Or, I should say, dragged both of us in at the same time, as we received our first dolls within the same month. :)

I came in largely from the anime/manga world (which I came to from other worlds, it's all a chain of connections!), with the original idea to get only one doll and make clothes to sell at conventions. I have yet to really get deep into making the clothes, but I've still had a lot of fun, and have far more than "only one" now. And since my hobbies tend to stick around, I don't see myself "aging out" of this hobby either.

    12. Well, I am 37 years old. I started playing with BJDs about ? two years ago. It would not have been possible any time before. My real horse and my job soaked up all my time.

    13. I started when I was 16 and I just turned 19. I'm coming up on my three year anniversary of my BJD interest~

I'll never be too old for this!

    14. :fangirl:I'm 27 and I don't think I'll ever be too old to collect my dollies!:fangirl:

    15. I'm 21 (Year of the Monkey here, lol.) My first BJD arrived about a week after my 19th birthday. I also think it's really interesting that there are so many ages represented here! I haven't really been in a hobby before that was quite so varied in that regard. Late college-age or mid-twenties seems to be a trend, but housewives and grandmothers are certainly not a minority. The diversity means everyone has some unique perspective, experience or skill to bring to the table. :)

    16. I'm 15 turning 16 on Friday ^-^

I don't think that I've ever not had dolls and I don't think I ever will either.

    17. I'm 30, and I don't think people are ever going to be to old to enjoy their hobbies

    18. I started the hobby last year and I'm 34 this year. I saw pictures of BJDs when I was younger but I couldn't afford anything back then. Any time is a good time I guess.

    19. 28, it would of been since 22 but, I just got my first bjd around July 2013~'

    20. Hey, man, not all of us between "mid-twenties" and "grandmother" are housewives, yanno. ;)
