1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Old Are You?

Feb 26, 2014

    1. I couldn't agree more - I've just turned 55 and been in a full time job for years - with no chance of let-up at the moment sadly. However, I'd go mad without some sort of crafty thing to do in my spare time and have been into BJD for the last 3 years, I've got 2 big 'uns and 2 little 'uns and have plans for more. I just love it. I like the age range alot and think that everyone has different perspectives on their hobby , and that enriches us all.

    2. April, I wasn't trying to upset anyone when I started this thread, I was just curious as I thought it would mostly be younger people.

I never thought of doing a poll as it's just a bit of fun and I wasn't after exact numbers.

Also, I'm certainly not ageist. :S

    3. I'm 23 this year,I started the interests last year. I love my BJD dolls,I will get old with them

    4. 33 here!!! I started collecting BJDs 6 years ago, but have collected toys ever since I was a child. I don't think you could ever be too old to collect dolls. No way! :D

    5. Uh, for real. Full time job, no desire to ever have kids and I actually cringe at the term "housewife"....

    6. I'm 24 and I'll be 25 next month. Been in the hobby a little over 1.5 years. I will never be a housewife lol...but I'm not opposed to being a stay at home dad someday.

    7. Born in 1983 and currently 30 years old. If I'm too old to play with dolls, I really have to reconsider my career ;).

Awww... Great way to kill my world view, Tez... ;_;. Now who'll bring me a nice cup of tea and some cookies?

    8. I just turned 31 two weeks ago :) And I don't think you're ever too old for anything. I mean, I collect Playmobil figurines as well, and unlike BJDs, those are definitely intended for children. But as long as I'm having fun with them, who cares?

    9. Yay! We are the same age! :D

True story! I'm charging happily toward 40 and the term "housewife" is not even in my vocabulary. I have a full-time job, no children, and I shudder at the idea of being a "housewife". Having children is so not in the plan. Getting married....maybe, but not likely.

As for this being an "ageist" topic, I never got that impression from the OP. I think it's interesting to see the age range of people who participate in this hobby and that was kind of the impression I got from the OP as well. I don't see how this topic was intended to - or really should offend people.

As for being "too old for dolls" I don't think there really is an age limit. No one should ever be too old to play, create, socialize with people who share their interests, have fun and be happy. If dolls provide those things for you, then you're not too old for dolls. :)

    10. I got my first doll when I was 17 and knew about them since I was 14. I'm currently 23 and turn 24 a month from today (the 27th). I don't plan to stop collecting any time soon, if ever <3.

    11. To be honest, if I had a little more room, I'd have bought the entire Western series, because it's so awesome. I think that those who stick to 'age-appropriate' hobbies are missing a whole world of fun.

    12. I'm 39, which I find baffling. Most of the time I wonder what I'll be like when I grow up.

    13. I am 29 years old. The 30 are so close >_< (July)

    14. I'm 32, turning 33 in May. If I become too old to play with dolls it won't be a numbers thing, it'll be an attitude thing :)

    15. 25, turning 26 later this year. Hobbies shouldn't have age restrictions. I will never be too old for this hobby.

    16. I'll be 28 March 19th and I just got my first doll about a week ago!

    17. I'm 23 going on 24 in March, I've been into the BJD-specific hobby since September 2010, but I used to collect porcelain dolls with my grandmother when I was younger.

I will never be too old for my dolls.

    18. I'm 21. Started the hobby last year but I might need to cool off of it for a bit as I think I might have developed a shopping addiction when it comes to dolls...

    19. I'm 33. I had a bit of a rough childhood, so I just say I'm having the childhood I want now. :)

    20. I just turned 38 in February.
