1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Old Are You?

Feb 26, 2014

    1. I was 17 when I first became interested in the hobby, and I'm turning 19 this month. I feel quite young compared to a lot of people here. /laughs But I'm honestly not surprised--I feel the hobby is much more accessible to slightly older folks due to the cost involved. But aside from that factor, I think it's great for everyone. Of course there's no such thing as too old or too young (as long as you're mature enough to handle the care involved)! :)

    2. I started my doll obsession two years ago when I turned 60. It definitely keeps me busy.

    3. I've been collecting since early 2005 and I'm 24. It was hard to keep up with the expenses when I first started, being a student and all, but now I have a steady income, I'm enjoying the hobby much more. =)

    4. 49 and growing old disgracefully:)

    5. Sadly, not old enough to have a job, and therefore get a doll quickly :(

    6. APnucka: The wait will be so worth it when you finally get your dolly!

I just turned 44 and I got my first BJD in 2006. I wanted one since 2003 but I was too chicken of the price.
I had been mad for multi jointed dolls since I was a child so BJD's were a dream come true!

    7. My mom jokes about the fact that when I was little, I never played with dolls but now that I'm almost 25 I have a bunch XD

    8. I'm closer to 70 than 60 now, but I'm very young at heart! This is one hobby where I have found there's no age or gender discrimination and I love it. The people I have met at meets have always been very friendly. :)

    9. I'm 24 years old and I'm think you could be never to old for BJD.

    10. I'm 28.....and all man....with collecting my boys. And you only old when you feel like you outgrown enjoying BJDs. But you're always welcome to come back and be a kid any time.

    11. I'm 43 - almost 44. I just started, but it fits with all of my other hobbies really well. It is something that my 11-year-old is super fascinated with. She learned to sew last year and I've purchased her a few nice, off-topic dolls. I think she will get a doll of her own soon if she can bring up her grades. Seems like a good thing to bond over that we both love so far.

    12. I'm turning 20 this year (omg, teenage years behind me, scary)! Got my first BJD 4 years ago so that would have made me 16. Bought my second 2 years later (at 18), and my third just a couple weeks ago. Plus a little obitsu. This is the year of dolly buying >:O!!!

And my parents told me I was "too old" for dolls when I first wanted one... Sigh.

    13. Turned 25 last December and in the hobby for almost a year now x3

    14. 25! Looks like it may be an average age?

    15. Ahaha, true! I think in trying to keep my post short I made some unfair generalizations there... :sweat
Certainly nothing wrong with breaking the mold - maybe the fact that I'm so accustomed to the term "housewife" means we need more people to do just that.

I also think a poll on this thread would be rad.

    16. Ooh someone my age!

      17, senior in high school.
I'll be 18 on July 5th yay. Then college. Scary.

    17. Right now I'm a junior in high school, so sixteen; I started this hobby when I was fourteen, and bought my first doll last year. Although right now, it's not the beeeeeest of times for me to have a growing doll family. I'm a baby compared to the majority of my local meetup community, but that doesn't really bother me. You're never too old or too young to enjoy something (within reason.)

    18. 36, been in the hobby for 6 years, interested in BJDs for 8.

    19. I agree whole-heartedly!!

I was thinking the same thing... finances and time tend to be in short supply when you're paying off a mortgage and raising kids!

I turn 31 in two months and will be getting married sometime in the next year, and while right now I don't like to think I'll put my dolls aside I do wonder if I'll have the time and money to keep up with them if we decide to have kids.
I don't think I'll ever give them up completely though, they're too much a part of me!

    20. I started in 2006 I think when I was 20 :)
I'll be 28 this year, and while I did take a break for a couple of years due to job reasons, I kept all my dolls and I'm returning to re-discover a whole new fabulous world.
Hopefully I be able to slip into it as if I've never been away.
