1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Old is TOO Old?

Sep 12, 2012

    1. I really don't think age should have much to do with it. If it makes you happy, then do it regardless of what others think. I just came into the hobby age 51 having never been interested in dolls at all until a friend of mine showed me her collection. My tastes differ to hers but without her first introduction I probably never would have become involved. I am now so glad I did become involved because I love tinies and they are just so cute.

    2. How old is too old?

      DEAD...................

      Untill then........live it up.

    3. Since I don't believe age can even be really measured in years, there is no such thing as "too old". I keep hearing people say "I'd love to play an instrument, but I'm too old to start." If I had a penny for every time, I wouldn't even need that money tree - and it's not true at all, I know people who started learning their first instrument at age 50 or older and play really really well. In my book, age and hobbies are pretty much unrelated. If you feel like playing the piano at age 60, go ahead ... if you'd like to learn ballet at age 30, why not? And if, at whichever age, you just gotta have that BJD ... go for it. Anything that makes you happy is a good hobby, no matter how old / young you are.

    4. All people love to collect things that are beautiful. Expensive things that look nice, like jewelry and centerpieces. Dolls aren't different than that, maybe even better since they allow the keeper to show a lot of themselves in it, being how they choose to dress it, photograph it, paint it. It's a piece of art.

Quitting a hobby because you are too old or for any other reason beyond growing tired of it is just abandoning something you love to fit in. Unnecessary! Enjoy what you do for what it is, not to meet expectations.

You can't change that people will always associate dolls with children, but that's baseless isn't it? Where is it written that a nondestructive hobby is something adults and children can't share? It's the same kind of thing as believing adults are too old to see a PG rated movie.

    5. Personally, I don't think there's such thing as too old.
As long as you can handle them and take care of them :3

    6. Some people might say that "Too old to play with dolls is anyone over 5 years old."

I personally don't care what anyone says. About anything.

I think people need to mind their own business and not worry about what other people are doing so much!

    7. I'm a 25yr male. so playing with dollz for me is considered like age 6 or something, or just a not to do thing. But i personally could give a flying fart what people think. Age has nothing to do with the BJD or ABJD collection. I find it one of the most crazy art i've ever known. Pft to the age thing, as long as your passionate all is good :D

    8. I gave up dolls when I was 13. I was miserable until I finally allowed myself to have dolls again as an older teen. Ever since then, I've basically told social pressure what it could do to itself in loving anatomical detail.

You can love dolls and still have a life.

    9. My parents think it's a little childish but then again, they always complained about how I needed more "feminine" hobbies. Pretty sure doll collecting could fall under that description, even with all the male collectors. So they're pretty used to me getting into what the perceive to be "odd hobbies", like anime, cosplay and stuff like that. At this point they pretty much just roll their eyes at it as they know they can't dissuade me from it.

    10. I doubt there's ever an age where collecting BJDs will be considered "too old" because they essentially fall into two categories. That of dolls, and that of collectable art pieces. Each "category" can be justified in different ways.

That said, for the most part, the general prices of the hobby do tend to put off younger collectors. The initial outlay is rather expensive for a young child or teen to afford on their own, so (at least a few years ago) the majority of collectors were at least in their twenties to begin with. I intend to remain in the hobby indefinitely, though my collection may shrink or grow depending on how I feel.

In the end, "too old" is what you subjectively feel it to be. Only you can decide when you are too old for the hobby. There's no accepted age group, it's an all encompassing hobby. ^_^

    11. Ahahaha! I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm never "too old" to do anything that makes me happy and is relatively harmless.

...minus when I got an S hook caught on myself... *_*

    12. This thread has really supported me with this hobby. So yes I'm older...retired older.. and I've always loved dolls so my family doesn't find this odd, but I've hesitated to connect with the local community 'cause I thought they would be uncomfortable with me. So thanks to all these comments now I see that that was my stuff and probably not theirs.

    13. I used to think there were certain ages for certain things, until I saw grow man watching my little pony.

Now I agree with 62kitty so much.

    14. Doll collecting strikes me as a hobby for all ages. Which kinds of dolls you collect will change, but there will always be dolls to fawn over and collect.

    15. I don't think there's any age limit on loving beautiful things. To me that's what my dolls are--beautiful art objects that I can play with and enjoy.

    16. Heh. Too true! :D

    17. I basically see BJDs as a piece of artwork and I dont think art is something that has a specific age range ^^

    18. Nobody is too old for dolls or anything...everyone should do what they enjoy...prejudices are bad:doh
In addition, this dolls aren´t suitable for small children, because they don't appreciate the value ^.~

    19. I think there is no age limit; just as I believe we aren't always the same age inside as we are on the outside.

    20. you´re right :aheartbea
