1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How will the recently implemented tariffs affect your doll collecting?

Nov 9, 2024

    1. I have a Resinsoul order coming in this week, my first since the tariff change. I received the alert with tracking yesterday and a DHL fee request today, which I verified by plugging in the URL directly (making sure it was dhl.com, not dhi.com.) The fee did have the notice it needed to be paid in five days or it couldn't be delivered, but it wasn't a terrible total. What was funny was the contents description-it listed the doll as 'for daily use'. Like a medical device, as my bestie said. (Serotonin dispenser, I said.)

    2. Do you guys think it’s best to have a few packages sent out together vs individually? I’ve seen some stores/agents say it doesn’t make a difference, but if there’s that fee of $100 per package, isn’t it better to ship 2 heads in the same package?

    3. I suppose it depends on how they're shipping them. It seems like at the moment, a lot f people aren't being charged that fee, so it might not matter? Though depending on where they're coming from, I'd want to combine packages to save on the overall shipping costs too personally. And to get things all at once so i wouldn't need to wait more xD

    4. If you don't mind saying, what was the total for the order and the total for the fees? Just to get an idea of what's being charged. Totally fine if you don't want to share that info, of course!

    5. If it helps @CloakedSchemer since Resinsoul seems to be using multiple shipping carriers (I wonder if it has something to do with the location? My parents are in a more rural area, so I don't think DHL delivers to their house), the total for my order which was delivered by UPS, was $132 plus $28 shipping back in April.

    6. My order was $161 plus $28 shipping, placed in April as well. The DHL charges were $22.81. And these are the only charges I've had; no follow ups for additional payment. Which doesn't mean I couldn't get a follow up bill, or that my next Resinsoul order might not be different.

    7. @quilleth @Cryptid Thanks for the info! That’s not nearly as bad as I expected. Still not good, but much better than it could have been at one point.

    8. Adding my two cents in case it helps someone, had an order come in recently from Dollyteria for a doll (1/4th scale) and they didn't declare country of origin at all, no tariffs added. I have doll-related parts preordered from China directly from some months back (IE: Doll Family H), and I'll update if those end up being charged.

    9. None whatsoever. I already accept the notion of tariffs (it is what it is), and it definitely won't stop me from pursuing my hobby. It will make me be more mindful of the costs though and factor that in before purchasing so I won't feel overwhelmed or surprised at purchase - since by then the tariffs will already be accounted for in my BJD funds.

    11. I picked up my package the other day, so I was able to get a closer look at the labels. I assume they must've used some kind of address forwarding service or something because the only mailing label on it is the UPS label, which has a California return address on it. It doesn't even have a customs form!

    12. My order from AliExpress arrived, and I didn't have to pay anything for it. The listings did say all import fees were included, so that seems to have been accurate.

    13. I received my order from MoonlightBJD today. There were no additional charges. :D

    14. I'm a Canadian whose package is on its way to a faceup artist in the US. My delivery service, Chit Chats, is partnered to USPS for last mile delivery. Chit Chats had to repackage the parcel I put together because my doll heads lacked "Made in South Korea" labels (despite filling it out on the form), and because apparently, doll parts must be assumed to be manufactured in China ("are you sure?" yes, they are South Korean products)

I also had to dispose of my perfectly foam-lined reused box because Chinese actors appear on it. Having run a small business a few years ago, this now feels so ridiculous for something that is supposed to be a non-sale personal shipment. I know that Chit Chats is just being extra cautious for both our sakes and I hope my package gets to the artist safely. However, I still don't like having my package tampered in the first place.

    15. I wrote this on May 30th and it is now June 30th. I just received an invoice from FedEx from the Department of Homeland Security for this package, even though my doll was shipped through Canada I still got a charge. It's not that bad. about $50, and the exporting country on the invoice is listed as Canada while the package origin is listed as China.

It took a month for the invoice to be sent. Knowing this I will keep a bit set aside for my last doll that ordered from China before this started. I am going to hold off buying new dolls from China for awhile after my last doll gets to me.

I just wanted everyone to know that even if you aren't billed right away for the tariffs you might still get a bill a month or so later.

    16. @RabbidBunnies that's unfortunate. This was your package from Alice's Collections? So it looks like their tariff-free shipping method, isn't? :(

    17. their tariff free shipping method is a Chinese company called SF International, not Fed Ex. i don't know about Fed Ex but i do know that Alice's shipped my stuff via SF International which is what they told me was their tariff free method and i have gotten no belated bills almost a full month later.

    18. That's good to know. Maybe the FedEx shipment was in that time period where they were still trying to figure things out.

    19. I think FedEx, UPS, and DHL all are not tariff free methods. It’s not Alice.
I am getting a shirt from Legend by SF Express. It’s taking a lot longer but I doubt there are tariffs.

    20. It was, but it was sent before the tariff free notice was up. They were just trying to reduce tariff charges when my boy was sent. They did ship him through Canada.

Looking at the invoice the tariffs would have been a lot worse if they had shipped him normally from China.

I should have another doll coming from them fairly soon? I ordered in March. When he gets sent I think they will be using shipping other then FedEx. I believe they changed their shipping methods since then,
