Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. How would you feel if there's a doll that look like you?

Jan 23, 2013

    1. I would be a little curious to see how owners use my lookalike to make their characters, and how I could "look" different too.. LOL..
I don't think I'd be weirded out by it, however I would not feel inclined to own it. I feel like it'd be a little strange to have a minime.. I had never been partial to how like american doll magazines tried to encourage you to make custom dolls with your own features.

    2. Oh, I think I'm pretty enough in my way, if I say so myself, but I know my style of pretty is NOT in vogue this century. Not a single Disney Princess and very few runway models ever have an Aquiline nose. No one will be sculpting a doll with a soft chin, broad forehead, Very Roman Nose, wide deep set sleepy eyes and a sharply defined mouth, except maybe me.

I was curious to see if I could make a self-portrait in the BJD style so I am modding a junk head to look like me. It will only be a head on a bust stand, not a whole doll.

    3. That would be very scary and would never sell, I certainly wouldn't buy one ! :)

    4. I'm sure if I thought a doll looked like me, nobody else could see the resemblance but me. :sigh

I would enjoy finding a doll that looked like myself, not for vanity but for the joy I'd find in everyone else's laughter when they saw I had a mini look-a-like. I might be a bit weird-ed out if I saw someone else had the same sculpt and modded "me" or dressed "me" in ways that I find displeasing.

    5. Hmm, I think Notdoll Aletheia comes close, but maybe closer to what I would look like if I were imaginary. ^_~

    6. Would definitely rather my doll not look like me. :?

*Laughs* Your question reminds me of a doll I had as a child... There was a line of dolls in the '80s called My Child, and they came with different skin/hair/eye color combinations so that you could have one that looked like it was really your baby. I'm a brown-eyed brunette, my mom bought me a blue-eyed redhead for Christmas. I think she missed the point a little. :XD: Beautiful doll, though!

    7. I would be wondering why anyone would make such a thing. It wouldn't sell, and if it did I would want to know why.

    8. I actually have seen a doll that looks a little like me, and I'm trying to remember the sculpt but it's escaping me, but it weirded me out a bit before saying "I really want that doll" and then the price... it was so expensive. :C
...I suddenly remembered, it's this doll here

Edit: Though this doll has a lot of my whole facial layout down...

    9. I would be happy. And I deffinetely would buy it.
Because I think this is really cool!

    10. I would find it really creepy. I certainly wouldn't buy one!

    11. That actually sounds like an awesome looking doll, and a fun project as well :D

    12. I think that would really creep me out haha

    13. I woudl hope it was me when I was in my prime! Then I would buy it adn have fun customizign and spoiling her!

    14. I would probably be weirded out, but I'd be cool with it, I'd probably get one of them so I could actually see what kinds of clothes I look good in, since I'm only good with fashion on other things. Other than that though, I don't think many people would buy the sculpt, I mean sure, an Asian doll that is Asian with big-ish eyes, cool, but I don't think people would enjoy the fact that those eyes would be sculpted to be constantly narrowed, with constantly frowning or sneering lips. Angry or distantly upset looking dolls are usually what fuels horror stories xD.

    15. A doppelganger doll? At first I would be scared but then I would have to kill it....only one of can exist on this plane and that's me! Unless of course the real situation is that I look like the doll....now that would be complicated....

    16. I wish there was one that looked like me. All the sculpts seem to be Asian or Anglo aesthetics. I haven't seen any that look similar to First Nations in skin tone or facial features. I would buy one though, if it did. It would be nice to see some artist thought FN were beautiful enough to be a doll sculpt.

    17. Actually there is a doll which face looks like me, when I was a young teenager, the body is also really tall, like me, but super skinny (not like me) :sweat
Plus, she's also named 'Gine' (my nickname in real life and name here on DOA). When she was first released I freaked out a little but now I'm calm about it. First I thought about it, but I don't think I could ever have her and enjoy her, lol. It's just too creepy. :o

She is a Blossom Doll Gine, btw.

    18. I would hate it. If they looked like me... Oh boy. With my luck, someone would turn it into a voodoo doll =_=

    19. I am not really interest in this idea...
I think it is the best for a doll to looks like something beyond reality...(which means imagination figures...)
and I am quiet into that Japanese theory of doll and their spirits...as a result I rather there's no sculpture looks like me...

    20. I would feel hella weird but at the same time like LOL AWESOME~
Also cuz i'm hot as sh-- JKJK
