It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Hypothetically speaking... Would you take on a restoration project?

Feb 22, 2013

    1. I actually do want to buy a semi-damaged doll to attempt restoration and practice my face up skills on. It'd be a full doll though because I hate having floating heads hanging around.

    2. I love doing restoration projects now and then, but for my dream doll I would want the doll to be in a good condition and unmodded. It's a dream doll because of the way it looks, not because it has a certain mold name.
Restoration projects can be fun, though. I did one, although I didn't return the head to the original state.

    3. Yeah, I would :3

I wanted to for a while there when I had first started out in the hobby. I would have if I'd have found a damaged version of one of my dream dolls, but I never did actually so I never actually took on a restoration project.

    4. Yes, definitely! I have accumulated a lot of secondhand resin and over the years I have really enjoyed giving them TLC. Some were yellowed and others needed specific colour-matching to create hybrids.

    5. The price would have to be really low. I would go for it. Im up for a challenge.

    6. Once I get some spare cash I'd love to. I already restore old toys and vintage dolls so it would be interesting.

    7. Once I build up some skills and have had some more minor modding practice I totally would, provided that the combined price of the restoration materials and the doll itself were lower than just waiting to find one in good condition. It seems like a fun way to wind down.

    8. As far as Vince_Twilight's Soom Topaz project... I think that's really brave. I'd personally have "deer in the headlights" face at my current knowledge level, but I could also see the excitement and appeal of tackling something so intense. Think of the reward and sense of accomplishment once it's all done! I second the comments along the lines of "depends on price and amount of work needed." Sometimes part of the dream doll is the new and perfect factor: no work needed. I could also see the value in bonding with your figure throughout the restoration process; think Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. It's impossible not to love her after all that sweat and energy has gone into it.

    9. Not necessarily for a "dream doll," but if I found one in rough shape for a very low price, I might take the plunge! I'd like to try out a restoration someday, and it would give me the starting point needed. I feel like it'd be a good way to hone some of the skills I'd like to develop toward modifications and customizations, as well.

    10. Honestly, probably not. It'd be cool to have something to practice on, but I wouldn't want the task of restoring my dream doll when my time and skills are so limited (read: non-existant). But it'd be super rewarding to have your totally customized dream doll that you poured your heart and soul into! I would do it if I could.

    11. For any of my dream dolls, no.
Though I know it would probably bring me closer to the doll itself, it would take me further away from the awe of my "grail."

But to be honest, if I saw a any other doll at a reasonable price for the amount of damage it's taken... I'd buy it.
I think that doing a restoration would be fun! But that's probably because I find my joy in stressful things. xP

    12. Not a snowballs chance in h**l! I personally have zero skills to apply to a restoration... I have my mothers childhood (now antique) dolls that need restoration, still tucked away for the future? I would however possibly buy a doll that needed restoration if I thought I could find someone I would trust to to the work... saving on a damaged dream doll might make paying for the work doable...

    13. a restoration project is a good chance to work on skills, and if everything works out then the doll is great! if not, at least you tried!

    14. If the price was right AND if I had extra spending money to take on the project, then yes. For the faceup and body blushing... I don't see why not. So overall, yes. I would certainly do so. c:

    15. Yes, if the price is right and the levels of restoration. I can do certain thing but not everything.

    16. I think, I'd only take on one as a commission, not as my own doll to own.

AND only if I already had the materials on hand.

I've often entertained the idea of a restoration, making something beautiful out of a destroyed face, but I doubt I'd ever have the time for a project like that.

    17. Depending on the "damage" if it had any I would. I think broken dolls that are rescued love you even more in return because you saved them. :)

    18. I'd definately do this. If the doll was my dream doll and was perfect for a cheap price, i'd do whatever it takes to make them back to normal.

    19. Nope, probably not lol. Cause in all honesty I wouldn't know how to fix it lol

    20. It's was that dream doll that I wanted. Ofcourse! I would take the time to restore it. But if it has yellowed bad, no thank you T-T
