Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. IDealian72 River the Merry Monarch LE

Aug 24, 2011

    1. He is just SO PRETTY. His face just amazes me. I'm very weird in that I don't really find people inherently 'sexy' or 'hot', it's like my brain is just wired up to 'oooh, what lovely and interesting features, I would love to draw that face!' -- and he's high on that list. All those angles and... just wow. He'd be such an incredible sculpt. (Is, really... I have the MA that resembles him, and two minimee heads of him... *cough* Even eyeless and unpainted the lines of that face are just so striking.) I could see some real appeal even from the artist's side in sculpting such dramatic features, so it would really not surprise me if they went there.

This one, actually, reminds me a -little- bit of Robert Downey Jr., more in the 'hmmmph' expression than the features, and the costume resembles one from a film he was in also. Which makes me think... ;) Wouldn't shock me to see a DiCaprio-esque 'young king' from 'Man in the Iron Mask', either. (Wouldn't appeal to me personally, but I could definitely see them going there and doing a beautiful job of it.)

    2. :D I'm not the biggest fan of Dicaprio but I love the look of him in that movie. Yeah, Soom should just skip the steampunk and roll with the Monarchs.

    3. Yeah, Soom definitely just said, "eh, eff it" with the Steampunk line. Wonder if they just didn't sell as many Yorks as they thought they would and decided to scrap the theme.

    4. Odds, are they'll have new theme next month, so don't hold your breath... ;)

    5. LOL! First thing I thought as well...

He's very interesting, sculpturally speaking, though. He's got a lot of cool things going on with his jaw and chin. I get the impression that he'd get jowly as he ages (erm - if he were a real man, of course. LOL).

EDIT: Just noticed that he's Charles II - good grief.

    6. Just some interesting history:

Charles was popularly known as the Merrie Monarch, in reference to both the liveliness and hedonism of his court and the general relief at the return to normality after over a decade of rule by Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans. Charles's wife, Catherine of Braganza, bore no children, but Charles acknowledged at least 12 (!!!) illegitimate children by various mistresses. As illegitimate children were excluded from the succession, he was succeeded by his brother James.

      Merry, indeed...

    7. Maybe we should send them a request...;)

    8. Re: the Merry Monarch, I have to add that he seems to have acquired that name in a satirical poem by the Earl of Rochester (John Wilmot) which is too rude to quote on this forum.

The doll's somewhat sardonic expression seems quite appropriate - but he ought to have a moustache! (And possibly Nell Gwyn).

    9. Grrrr, just sold my soul to Limwha and Loongsoul. How did I miss this!!! I never get interested by Soom's - until now!! Ok, I need to seriously hide the credit cards :)

    10. Victoria has a Flickr?? omg...Could anybody link it to me, please? ;A;

When I first saw River I immediately loved his chin and jaw line! I thought finally...Soom, you're coming out with mans again.
More strong bone structures in the ID line, please! <3

    11. I am so sorry it was Facebook. Well, here is a link
      https://www.facebook.com/pages/SOOM-Victorias-Doll-Café/131395496930249
Still fun stuff to look at and another way to get insider info! LOL
Yes I agree, LOVING the more masculine sculpts. Now if I could just get a guy with more open eyes, not so sweeping or squinty.

    12. I'm desperately trying to find faults with this doll to convince myself I don't need him, but the only thing I can come up with is that his pants are shorts with wide legs, which is wrong as they should be drawn tight around the calf. If that's the only fault I come up with I'm done for :(

    13. Lace Pricess~ Oh, now I see. XD Yeah, I knew their Facebook...just thought Victoria had actually started a Flickr. Which, by the way, would be amazing if happened. With all the blank pictures released so far and random shots all in one place. *__*

Ishtar~ Especially because it's only a fault in the outfit... not the guy himself then huh?.

    14. I'm so tempted to purchase River! >.< Can't afford the clothes though, so I'll just get the wig and the eyes and the face-up. But hold on. How tall is this dude? :3

    15. 72 cm! Big guy!

    16. Hi,

I'm interested by the coronation set only but it seems it's not possible to buy it without the doll, right ? Or is it another way to have it without the doll ?

    17. You would need to do a split with someone, where they bought the doll and you bought the coronation set.

    18. Ok, I need to access to the market place for this I think... Another time maybe

    19. Argh!! I convinced myself I don't need an Idealian, that I'm being greedy and I can live without him. I let yesterday go, and felt sad, but ok that I hadn't ordered him. So why did I go on to Soom's website today, only to see that he is still up for sale :? I don't know if my restraint will hold out much longer ;):doh

    20. It's funny how we 'stalk' the site when there is a doll we want. LOL.
I think he is rather quietly marvelous. And the outfit is amazing.
