1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If BJD's were to become the 'next big thing'...

Mar 20, 2008

    1. I think it would be nice, since right now the types of people in the hobby seem to be more or less on the same boat. That is, there are a lot of people inthe hobby that have interests in thigs like anime and manga, or sci-fi, fantasy, ect. I think it would be interesting to see people in the hobby who normally wouldn't be into such things. I know id probably feel more comfortable with my doll if I could share the experience with my friends I have now. Its difficult for me to make friends in this hobby because the only interest we'd likely share would be dolls, and I tend to make friends easier with people who have opposite interests. Anyways, I know there'd certainly be some downs to dolls being popular, but we'd all still be the 'original' doll owners, aha we'dbe setting the trends!

    2. Honestly I'd be overjoyed. Avalibility in local stores DOES mean cutting shipping prices, afterall. And even if it wasnt local as in, in the town local I wouldnt mind. Id drive an hour or so to get some doll goods; heck that would actually work beautifully because I wouldnt have to bother with the hassel of arguing with my parents for them to take my cash to pay for the stuff for me, lol.

      A major plus would be people understanding and throwing hissy fits over the dolls. I know that I always get into arguments when people find how much I paid ^ ^;;

    3. indeed i wouldn't like it as much, after all BJDS seem to be in a world of it own, with people sharing the same intertesed meet and enjoy each other company, if it mass produce...it would be like...barbie...-.- they won't be as well care for to those who buy them for the sake of it. Pity really.

    4. OT. I find it hilarious that the reactions here are complete opposite of my thread over in debate

I personally wouldn't care, because there are so many other things I do, that this is just... well.. another thing that I do.

    5. I don't know. I enjoy the small group of it. I mean I worry for the dolls that people would get if it got too popular, people would use their sharpies and such instead of the correct thing. I hat to say it but popularity normally means that the the quality may go down.

    6. It would be nice though, more clothing and such with more accessories.

    7. Well - one of my friends asked me what I would do if ABJD became the next 'Barbie'.
I told them that I would be very sad and upset, but, I'd have the pride and joy in knowing that I was into this hobby way before it became mainstream...

I like that BJD are getting more attention, but, I don't think that it'd be a good thing for them to become the next "Barbie"...

      La

    8. if they became popular, i would feel more comfortable about taking dolls out in public because everyone would know what they were and you wouldn't get people begging to man-handle your dolls etc.

shipping can sometimes cost a bomb so having a shop just down the road that would sell all i needed would be a plus. i think if it did become really popular, it wouldn't be a bad thing as such.

all i can think is that there would be a lot of young 'doll-owners' who bought BJDs to be part of the 'fad' and once they got bored and were ready to go into the next 'in-thing' all those beautiful unwanted dolls would get thrown in the trash...and that's another thing, they might drop in price too.

i don't think i would go off of them. i only get that feeling with music bands. like when i first started listening to Lightspeed Champion and he was literally unknown and yet now they've started putting his music on E4 and sometimes on adverts and i think to myself "eww, don't feel like listening to his album anymore..."

    9. I just had this weird mental image of a yard sale stacked high with BJDs in a trunk next to My Little Ponies and Jem dolls.

Part of me wanted to whimper, the other part of me went, "What a lovely reason to spend time with neighbors on a spring morning at the very crack of dawn!"

    10. LOL!

that's why i love yard sales and car boot sales!

i can imagine us all raiding the neighbours bins dressed in ninja-outfits with hessian sacks labelled 'SWAG' hahaha.

    11. I did that already for a child-size piano bench, so I think the neighbors are terrified of me already. *laugh* But I'd totally be up for that. Meetups could begin with scouting and raiding parties before noon, scouring local sales and bringing the booty back to trade in the afternoon.

    12. LOL! absolutely!
although, my family already go through skips and bins to see what people are chucking and whether it can be of use. it's a little embarrassing when a group of us go out and i get my brother, mum, gran and my gf all rifling through people's rubbish :sweat

maybe we could set up a Doll-Rescue-Squad, a team of specially trained members to go out and save unwanted or homeless dolls from the landfill site!

    13. All things evolve and change. I enjoyed bjds, but did it from a distance--until the advent of the anthro animal dolls, at which point I became an avid participant in this hobby. But, as a newbie, I am not doing it as a trend. In fact, observing the 'trend' changing in mainstream dolldom was somewhat bizzare; the $600 up price tag made the magazine articles somewhat daunting, and very confusing. Even the terms were different. Now, however, holding my Rooney and dressing her, waiting for Persi, I have a much different understanding.

The odds of bjds ever being a major fad, however, are slim. Not just due to cost, but due to the fact that dolls are not really an 'in' thing. Never have been, after about 3rd grade.

But do fads affect your enjoyment of something? Comic books are enjoyable no matter how many people share the interest. Same thing for Star Trek, which has kind of 'come and gone' as a fad without changing my enjoyment...

      It is an interesting question...

    14. They are getting bigger each day...
But I'd be happy, I would love some cheap knockoffs, as long as they kept the more expensive ones and the limited editions. It would be nice to go to a store and look at them all before making a decision, it would be nice to talk personally with your face up artist and show them where on the doll you want this and that. Besides, then people will understand! But I think similiarly to porcelain dolls, its probably never going to be britney spears big.

    15. Mmm, where I live, image is everything (Sadly D: ), so the 'trend' would get old fast.
I'd be offended at first (most would follow as a fad) but I would grow to love the ones who genuinely were interested and buy the other dolls off of the fadlets for much cheaper than they probably bought them. (That's how all the fads go around here) :3
I'd be happy I can go out and not be looked at like I'm insane, but I'd probably miss the feeling until the fad goes away. XD

    16. It wouldn't change the way I feel about BJDs themselves, and I'll always love my boy... But where I live, most of the things kids do are done because they're "popular" and "everyone else has one/does it". So it would definitely change my feelings about the fandom =/ I like the BJD fandom so much right now because - despite the fact that there are some very unpleasant people - everyone's a real fan. I haven't come across anyone so far who has a BJD "just because their friend has one" or "because they're getting more popular"; everyone is genuinely enamored with them :)

And it would be cool to see more BJD items for sale online and off X3 Furnishing my boy's room would be about ten times easier :XD:

    17. As long as I don't hear them on the radio every five minutes LOL

    18. I honestly chuckled when I read that XD

    19. It's a pretty big fear of mine actually xD I would hate everyone screaming at me "OH EM GEE IS THAT A DOLLFIE LEMME SEE TOUCH TOUCH TOUCH" I don't want to have the sense that I'm better because I've been in the hobby much longer than they have and especially if they were one to be like "EW! dolls! creepy weirdo! D<" I hate faddy people >< it might even turn away people who would be sincerely interested in them just because they're so popular =/

    20. They are their way ... look at this user forum as just a small example. I remember when this forum had a 'maximum overload of users' at a whopping 200. I knwo their ar others who remeber it when it was less.

Look at the amount of bjds that are availble now. Price wise their are 'low end to high end' where before there was no 'low end' price wise...

So I really think that bjd is on its way to becoming the next big thing....
