If something were to happen to you...

Jul 21, 2013

    1. This is something that I have kinda thought about a bit, however I haven't really come up with an answer for it. I think it would have a lot to do with HOW I end up...not of this world. I think that if my cause of death were to be something like a car accident and I have a doll with me, I would want to be buried with that doll. If something like that happened, said doll would probably be broken beyond repair, and of no real use or value to anyone else. That said, if I were to be in an accident and I didn't have a doll with me, I wouldn't want to be buried with one of them. I'd leave them to someone who'd actually be interested in them, and take care of them. I feel that being buried with a material object, like a doll, would be greedy/self-centered. My boys make me happy, and I'd want them to have the opportunity to make someone else happy. At this time, though, I don't really have anyone I'd give them too; I have one friend who said she's interested in them, and has said that she wants one, but what she says and actually thinks are two entirely different things. >.>

If I were to give them to someone, I would expect that they would keep my dolls and NOT sell them. If they want to change their names, clothes, backstories, personalities, etc. it wouldn't make me want to haunt them for the rest of their lives, waiting to exact revenge. They would no longer be mine, and I'd be dead. I wouldn't have a say (if they were to sell my dolls, though, THEN they'd never have another decent nights sleep for the rest of forever. THAT would make me roll in my grave.)

    2. 1. I would want my dolls to be buried with me! Just kidding! I would probably leave instructions on what to do with them. I would leave it to my boyfriend, my current roommate, and my childhood friend to handle my dolls. The instructions would include all my dolls names and personality to hopefully preserve that part of me and my dolls.

      2. I would want my boyfriend to have one but if he doesn't take one, I would understand, he's not into BJDs. Then my current roommate and my childhood friend would split the rest between them. But if I have pairs (siblings, lovers, ect.) then they can not be separated.

      3. I think I would be upset. I spent my time with the living creating these characters. To have someone not think twice about destroying a character I spent so much time on creating would probably do more then just upset me.

      4. YES! I love my dolls and if they ended up in the trash, I would haunt who ever's idea it was to put them there.

    3. If the worst should ever happen, I would want most of my dolls to go to specific people. Four would go to my boyfriend, (even if we weren't together anymore as we'd still be awesome friends); Rot, my Soom Photon Reaper hybrid (I feel he could appreciate a creepy skeleton man), April, my Soom Taco\Dolomi\Syen hybrid mod monster (April used to be a boy and my boyfriend totally called it when I decided the character would make a better girl. Plus, even though he used to make fun of April for being girly all the time, now that April IS a girl, they get along amazingly), Julius, my currently unfinished RS Pixiu mod (my boyfriend helped me figure out his character and what he'll look like. He's kinda our doll-baby), and Ian, my migidoll ryu (because he and my boyfriend have a LOT in common and he's my favorite doll and I would want him to go to the person I love and trust the most.) But if he didn't want any of those dolls for any reason, I would want them to go to my best friend in the doll world because I know she would take good care of them. Even if my boyfriend kept the dolls I would leave to him, I would definitely want my best doll friend to have Manna, my unoa sp Lusis mod MNF hybrid, because she has a lot of unoas\unoa hybrids and Manna would fit right in. I'd also probably ask her to to take one of the dolls that is just on my wishlist right now (if I get it) because it'd be a PKF multihead LUTS tiny centaur hybrid and she loves tiny dolls and centaur dolls, so he'd feel totally at home among all her Soom TG centaurs! Three dolls I would leave to my mother; Moss, my Soom OE Beyla LTF hybrid, Wren, my Soom Yrie LTF hybrid, and Buckwheat, my FL realpuki Roro. They're all little forest creatures\fae, which I think my mother would best appreciate. Plus they don't really wear clothes so she wouldn't have to worry about that 'cause I know she wouldn't ever like... PLAY with them. The rest of my dolls would go to my grandmother, who is totally awesome and loves my dolls and it would make her so happy. (After she got over the sadness of my death, of course, which is the only reason any of this would happen...) At least, the rest of my girl dolls (my migidoll Jina Granado hybrid and Unoa Latea Limhwa hybrid, and if I have them by then, Iplehouse Doria FP65 hybrid and Iplehouse Audrey), because the only other boy doll(s?) I might have by then I don't think she would like very much. He would be a light tan Iplehouse Felix, and if there were to be more boys they would probably also be from Iplehouse, but their body aesthetic would be a bit much for her. Also, she already has one of my old MSD dolls that I reshelled into an SD, so then she would have both versions of the same character. The Felix (and\or whoever else is left) I would just want to be sold, doesn't matter to whom, but I would want the money from the sales to go towards a charity, though I have no idea which one yet...

Sorry for the wall of text... I didn't realize how specific my plans would be if something ever happened to me... I guess I should make some kind of official 'doll will' if I ever become terminally ill or have some horrible accident that leaves me with not much time. Hell, I should just make one now since I know what I want to happen, 'cause you never know when something's gonna happen...

I'm not actually that paranoid... (or suicidal. God no.) I just... think about the 'what ifs'

    4. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk? I have designated people I want them to go to, my husband and sister are aware of this.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person? Most of them are role play characters, and I'd want them to go to the owners' of their partners and/or best friends or family. For the ones that don't really have connections in RP, it would be up to my sister to decide what to do with them. She's in the hobby, and it would be her choice to keep, sell or give to a friend. I would hope my husband would either keep my grail, or send him with me.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why? I would prefer my favorites (Amir, Loki and Parker) not lose their character, but the rest....I really wouldn't mind. I can't realistically expect a role play partner to be as attached to my characters as I am and want to take over close to 20 dolls/characters. That's a lot to handle!

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone? I'm so attached to my favorites, that it does upset me to think they could get thrown away, damaged, lost, etc. But in reality, if I'm dead, then it's really not MY doll anymore and I can't tell anybody what to do with it or enforce it.

    5. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
They can be stored away safely in a box until.. see below.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
I'd probably want most set aside for my little sister when she gets older. Whether or not she will like them, that's up to her. But I want her to have them. My best friend would probably get one of her choice. And one would actually go to my ex. He told me if I ever decided to sell her, that he would buy her. I'm not sure if the offer still stands, but I'd have my mom give her to him if he wanted her.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why? Sold them? I can't say it would upset me.. because it would be theirs to do whatever they wanted.. I do kinda wish they'd hold on them though. :/ Just store them away if you don't like them anymore. However they can change their name/personality to better suit their own personal preferance. I'm not leaving my dolls to them for them to be miserable with. I want them to make them happy. :)

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Not really. I just want them well taken care of and not forgotten / mistreated. :(

    6. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
I would hope my husband would just keep them around in memory of me.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
If my husband didn't keep them I would love for all of them to go to my mom. As she does love all dolls.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
This one is hard. I don't think I would really be upset but I would hope they would stay the way that they are.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Not really. I would just hope they were well taken care of and loved.

    7. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
I think, I would first want to give my close friends and family members an option to keep a doll or two if they'd like. I know a few that would take a doll or two and give it a good home, and a few that might keep one for sentimental purposes and take care of the, for me. If there were any dolls that were not taken by my friends and family, I think I'd have some one I trust go to DoA and ask to donate the dolls, maybe have a sweepstake or a contest, to give them away to people who can't afford a doll but have wanted one. Maybe some one underage that they're parents wont buy them a doll, or some one who's low on funds. I just wouldn't want the dolls being sold after that, like they're low on money and so they win the doll to then sell it and get money. I'd want some one who loves the dolls just as much as I do to have them.
If the family member or friend decided after they got it that they didn't want it, I want it to be an option for another friend or family member to take it or to donate it.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
I would give certain people first priority to pick a doll or two, and go down the list. If some one didn't want a doll or didn't think they would take care of it, I would have the rest given away or at least sold for a cheap price.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
I would prefer that they keep the same character that I've created, but if they don't, there's nothing wrong with that. It'd be their doll, so it'd be theirs to do with as they please. I just really hope that they wouldn't modify certain molds >.< cause I think they're so pretty.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Yes, I think it really does. I've put a lot of work and love into these dolls. I think it would be very sad for all of that to just go away.

    8. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
I've thought about this, and about what to do with the rest of my possessions, after I die. Well, truthfully there is nothing I CAN do after I die. I can't force anyone to do anything, I'll be dead. No one would be as attached as I am. How can they be? They're mine, they're my creations. I'm the one who has the most invested in them. So it would be completely unrealistic to expect anyone to care as much as I do.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
Most of my close friends and family aren't into dolls. The only person really close to me who has even shown an interest is my sister. She's the closest person to me overall, so in the event of my death, she's the one who would get everything. It would be up to her what happens to any of my things at that point. She's a no-frills kind of person, so I imagine she would sell or get rid of most if not all my dolls and things. She might keep one or two things to remember me by, but that would be it. I've made peace with that, I would want her to do what would make her happy, not burden herself with a bunch of stuff she doesn't want or need.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
As stated above, I've made peace with that. People are going to do what they need or want to do after you're gone. There's not a single thing you can do to change that. Why get upset over something that you can do nothing about? Maybe you could put something in a will, forcing people to keep them, but why? You're GONE. What you cared about or wanted doesn't matter any more, you've moved on. The people you've left behind doesn't need to be burdened with selfish demands regarding things that no longer have meaning to you. They're not children, they're not pets or any other kind of living creature that needs to be provided for. As their creator, I'm the one who gives them "life." Without my creative input, they become mere decorative objects.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
I'd like to think that maybe one or two would stay on, as little reminders of me. But who knows? The people that know and love me will have their own ways of remembering me. Maybe it would include my dolls, maybe not. I'd be a little sad their story would remain untold, but that's the way it would be. The only person who truly knows that story is me. With me gone, the story's gone too.

    9. If i were to go unexpectedly, I would hope my husband and mom would keep my dolls as memory of me. Even if they cant take proper care of them, and they might get stained, yellowed, dusty, or even broken, i know that they would be meaningful and would be loved in my memory. The idea of something so precious being sold really kills me. it would be like selling my diary, or my sketchbook. i worked hard to save the money for them, i spend hours painstakingly over their look, over their character. I sew for them, paint for them, sand for them, and dabble in various arts just for them. my husband has allowed me to share my happiness, has seen how this hobby has transformed my emotional health. to sell these as mere objects would hurt me. of course, i wouldnt know it, which is probably best. as any collector worries, though, i worry that they will be put in the attic or closet, and then sold or donated to someone who knows nothing of BJDs and cares nothing for me. all of my hard work, all of my love, would just disappear. :( as an alternative, if they were sold in the market to another BJD hobbyist, that would be okay. if they changed the character, made an all new doll out of what was given to them, that is alright to me. the doll will continue to be loved.

    10. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
I would want my doll(s) entrusted to somebody I trust, preferably a boyfriend/husband/close friend, to be distributed to people who truly want them. If no friends or family want them, I want them to be given to people who want their own dolls but can't afford to buy one. One doll per person in the case of the latter, of course.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
This might change as I make friends in the hobby, but right now all I care about is that they go to people who truly want to love and treasure them.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
I'll be dead; what do I care then? ;) As long as they're being loved by somebody, that's fine with me. Though if a friend or family member decided to keep their name/character/etc the same in memory of me, that might be really neat.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Technically, no, not really. I mean, I'll be dead, after all. But the sentimental part of me wants to make sure that all of my things - not just my dolls - are loved and cherished by somebody when I'm gone. Either as mementos kept by my friends or family, a poor family getting good use out of my clothes, or an absolute stranger who gets her very first doll from my estate. I honestly don't want any of my belongings buried with me; I would rather allow living people to continue to use and enjoy them.

    11. I've been thinking about this for a while and I really do care what happens to these little guys (and girls). I have come to a result that IF I were to die young (like eight seconds from now), I would like that my family or someone else would sell/give them to another BJD hobbyist, since there's no one in my close family who knows or cares how to treat them.
I don't want them to get put to a corner to collect dust and other age damage...

Even though they would change character, style, overall looks- I still want them to get the attention they deserve.

    12. In the tradition of my people, after I die I will have my entrails removed and my dolls stitched inside my body, thus ensuring that in my next life, they well be born to me as flesh and blood children.

    13. I feel as though I may have already written up an answer in a similar thread to this...

      1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?

Ideally I'd like them to kept by people close to me, but I understand that might be either too painful or too weird for them. We have a few antique dolls that belonged to family members in the early 1900s, would keeping mine in the hutch there be so different? (And in eighty years they'll be all yellow and scary-looking and our descendants' grandkids can be freaked out by them just as I was by the antique dolls!)

Gailan's new home has been predetermined, but if my family was going to sell the other two I would understand. I have been thinking I need to write everything down about them just in case, to make sure if they were sold, my family could get the proper price for them.

I would NOT want them buried with me; wouldn't want them to 'see' me that way... couldn't bear the thought of damning them to rot in silence in the dark.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
My best friend owns Gailan's partner, and I can think of nothing better than for the two of them to be together, even if it's on a shelf somewhere. She and I have already discussed this, and though she scolded me for thinking about death so soon, she assured me he would be loved and cherished.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why? I can't really help it if the doll is changed after it is sold, but if I solemnly willed a doll I worked very hard for to someone, though I wouldn't want my last wishes to be a burden on anyone ... if they gave Uriah to their kids who screwed up his faceup and named him Bob and kept him mangled up in a toybin, I'd probably haunt them to their own grave. That is more about disrespect of people than Uriah himself, though. I just don't want to know.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Right now, at this moment, it is painful to think of them in ruin. Something I worked so hard for, poured so much of myself into, forgotten and left behind. The characters are an immortal part of me and will exist in that part of my soul, but just like my own body, their shells are temporary. So when all is said and done I suppose it doesn't matter, so long as I don't have to see them that way, because at the bottom line, no one can care for them the way I do, and no one will ever look at them the way I do.

    14. I'm lucky to have quite a few doll friends that live around me, so if something were to happen to me (at least in the present) I would want my dolls to go to them. When I'm older, I hope to be able to give my dolls to younger family members, perhaps grandchildren if I'm lucky to have some. The one thing that would bother me would be if they were just thrown away or destroyed, so I hope I can someday find someone to take them. If no one wants my dolls when I go, I just hope that they get sold to people that will enjoy them. At that point, hopefully they'll be antiques!

    15. Mebbe I am confused? This is what a Will is for, so your wishes are carried out after death. You can put in the will what you want done with your possessions. You don't have to be old to make one, just 18 for it to be legal but that age depends on your state/country.

      1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
Sell them so someone who loves BJDs can enjoy them, donate the money to a good cause.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
No, unless my brothers wanted them, or if I had a friend who wanted them badly. Right now there isn't.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
Not at all. I'd be happy if whatever they did with the doll brought them some happiness. I would be dead. I don't get a say in what they do with something I gave to them, even if it was an inheritance.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
I want all my possessions to do some good, either by being given to someone who could use them, or sold and the money donated to a good cause. That is very important to me, that even the things in my life do some good after I am gone.

I am glad this forum has spell check. >.>

    16. When I will die, I think that my daughters will sell my dolls, because they know very well ebay... I said once that I would love to be buried with one of them, but it's so expensive, just to be in a coffin ! At least, I know that my wonderful dolls will please someone else...

    17. ^THIS.

However, the above is just in case if I die all of a sudden (due to an accident or something) but if I were to get sick and the doctor tells me I have X days to survive, I would make a plan for my dolls. I would sell them to my fellow doll collectors and in that way, I would feel better by knowing that my dolls are in good hands of people who know how precious they are and know how to take care of them because my family has no clue nor do they care.

I would have just one request from my family though. I have spoken this with my brother already and I hope they carry with the promise I'd make them do..."I want to be buried with my most precious doll, kyoshi. I don't want anyone to have him! so he will die with me". I know it sounds creepy but this is what I want.

    18. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
I may want my best friend to take care of them but I'm afraid they will bother her a little bit :p
I mean she's not like us. She doesn't know how to take care of them even though she truly knows how my dolls mean to me.
So I might want my brother to put them back in their boxes like they first arrived to my house and remain here :)

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
Maybe my girl friend who I trust but you know it wouldn't feel the same.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
I would upset because I didn't want to let them go but I have to, right? (in this case)

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
Not at all. They will find their best way.

    19. 1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
Well, right now I only have one. So if I died before I got my second I would probably have Shiloh left to my mum. She knows how much she means to me and would probably keep her out of memory. If I have my second at the time, I would have the second one left to my best friend who loves doll just as much as I do. She loves dolls of all kinda and wants a BJD of her own so I know she'd appreciate it. I don't think I'd have them buried with me, cause well - I want to be cremated.

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?

Shiloh would definitely go to my mum unless if she wanted to give her to my best friend. If I have my second, I would give that one to my best friend.

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?

I would be upset if Shiloh would be sold seeing as how much much she means to me and all the time and effort I spent on her. Unless if she were going to my best friend, I guess I wouldn't mind because I know she would take excellent care of her. I wouldn't mind if the name and personality were changed because I know my Shiloh will always be in my heart. So if they wanted to change her identity/character to make it their own I'd understand.

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?

Well, yes essentially. I mean, the thought of Shiloh being sold in a garage sale or on ebay would be so heartbreaking. For one, she'd get sold for way under the right price and second I just don't want to see her get sold like she didn't really matter. She is like my family, I would only want her to be with the ones I know and love.

    20. My boyfriend and I were just having a discussion over lunch about things like this.

      1. If something were to happen to you, what you want done with your resin folk?
My BF and I both agree that it's selfish to bury yourself with things (nothing wrong with being selfish, I am too, just not on this matter). I told him I heard about some sort of small group who collects BJDs to give to less fortunate and he can give my dolls to them. He asked if he can give them to her daughter and I said yes... probably by then she'll be old enough that my 68cm girl won't try to kill her (she's currently strung really tight and OUCH those knees!).

      2. Are there certain people who would get certain ones, or would you send them all to one person?
As long as they go to someone who will love them, especially to someone who always wanted one because it took me nearly 10 years to finally be able to afford one!

      3. Would it upset you if the person you entrusted to care for your doll a) sold him/her b) changed their name c) changed their style, personality, or character. Why?
If my bf ended up just shoving them into a box and putting them out of sight... I wouldn't know about it because I'd be dead lol

      4. Does it really matter to you what happens to them when you're gone?
I didn't have dolls before I was born and I won't have them when I'm dead, so what it boils down to is that it won't matter.
