1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If there was another word for BJDs, would they be easier to talk about?

Jul 6, 2011

    1. I'd have to say no. It would not be easier to talk about them with people who are not doll people, not matter what term was used in place of "doll".

    2. Avoiding using the word doll would only cause confusion...and confusion really wouldn't help the situation anyways. If anything it would repel people more.

It's better to be direct. Some people just won't understand the hobby... Really it's just best to leave those people to their devices and go on with life. There's no reason to stress over people not understanding this hobby.

    3. I say BJD or some times I'll say doll depending on where I am

    4. I'd just call them Ball Jointed Asian Figurines. After all, Dollfie means doll figurine. ;)

    5. I don't think it would help people who feel awkward talking about dolls feel less awkward and it would not help people who find them creepy find them less creepy. They look like dolls... the are dolls. I would think, trying too hard to differentiate them to people who are not interested in them might actually make things worse.
My solution for not feeling awkward talking about my dolls is to not bother people who do not care about them by talking about them. I have had a few people ask about them, most because they thought they were neat, a couple because they thought they were creepy. When that happens, I simply say I collect and customize dolls. If they ask for more information, I give it to them. If they look at me funny and ask nothing else, I say nothing else and continue what I was doing.

    6. Nah, 'a rose by any other name would smell as sweet' dolls are what they are, and for people who dont or refuse to know about the nuances of BJDs, a new name wouldn't do much good with them.
