1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If you had your own bjd company, and an unlimited budget...?

    1. In that situation what I would love to try and develop is a sort of modular interchangeable set of parts so you can effectively build your own doll with the sort of attributes you want. Legs and arms in short, medium and tall as well as muscular, lean and curvy; pelvises in narrow or wide and with internal or external genitals; stomachs in muscular, lean or curvy and also short, medium and tall; chests with different sizes of breasts or no breasts and in narrow or wide.

In terms of scale, the shortest doll would be about 36cm, a medium would be about 42cm and the tallest would be about 48cm. But with the right sort of mixing and matching you could probably get almost any size in between and would mean that if you were trying to create a doll who is all legs, you could go for longer legs with a smaller torso.

I would want a lot of joints so the doll was as flexible as possible and a sort of realistic but not hyperrealistic aesthetic and with limited exaggerated features in terms of musculature or weight. Less here is each individual ab and more like functional muscles for strength.

Mostly this is just because one of my dreams for my own collection involves shelling multiple characters who are very specific heights and body types and it would be great to have them all in one aesthetic and one level of flexibility.

    2. I'm going to go with a kind of "perfect fantasy world" take on this, so we're ignoring all the specific uses for the money- like specific sculptors, advertising, casting machinery, etc.. I'm going at this less like "it's exactly a million dollars" and more like "it's your dream company".

With that in mind, I'd love to make a company that specializes in monster dolls. Not just centaurs and satyrs and animal-legged dolls, (though I'd make those, too,) but actual Creatures. Werewolves in hybrid form, dragons, weird demons, unicorns, jackalopes, all scaled to the more human-like dolls so they can "interact". Animals and legendary creatures. They'd be available in odd colors, well outside the usual "white and normal skin".

In this perfect world I could hire not only sculptors, but multiple people to cast and finish the dolls, so that they wouldn't take a year to produce. We'd focus a lot on engineering, so that the sculpts could stand on their own and pose at least somewhat.

And those are kind of my ideals. Monsters that pose well.

    3. Do ya'll want children sized dollies? Because this would be how I would create children sized dollies. 90-120cm resin ball jointed dolls with the aesthetics of big babies such as Rosenlied Holiday's Child or Luts Baby Delf. Bigger babies, if I may. And I'd love to hire the Rosenlied sculptors for this task.

My resin children shall be children sized some day! :mwahaha

    4. I would pour money into research and development to develop BJDs with squishable bits. No more deciding whether you wants resin boobs molded to an unsupported position, or permanent bra boobs. They will adjust depending on what you put on.

I would also use this tech to develop chubby dolls. No worrying about "chubby" resin pieces harming mobility. You can have a doll with generous parts who can still bend.

    5. Ooh, a doll museum would be so cool! It would be super interesting to see an entire doll museum that showcases dolls through the years to see how they've all changed aesthetically and stuff. Like in art museums, bigger companies/artists could also have their own rooms to show off their dolls/clothing/etc.

    6. I recently saw someone on YouTube making porcelain BJDs and I think that would be so cool to do. The entire process of making a porcelain doll is so intensive that a lot of money would go to buying all the supplies like the kiln, the porcelain slip, the casting materials, and then the glaze paint. I'm not one to typically change faceups very much, so the fact that on porcelain dolls, the paint would be kiln fired into the porcelain and become permanent is a big plus for me! I think in a perfect world, it would be really fun to take commissions and make people their own dolls exactly how they would like from skin color to size to facial features to anything else.

    7. I'd start a company that makes dolls like Soom used to, before their aesthetic shifted away from making new things and to rereleasing old dolls in K Pop idol outfits.

I was so excited when they were at the height of releasing new sculpts at Dollism in New York... then immediately after that convention, they seemed to completely change their aesthetic.

    8. I am going to hire the world's top 40 engineers and artists and have them optimize the cutest faces for both male and female dolls and the best body in terms of both posing and aesthetics. Also heel feet and legs for the boy as well as the girl. And then I'll hire a tiny cobbler to produce leather shoes for the feet. No tailors will be hired. Sorry. I'll send a sock dress.

    9. Maybe a company that offers in stuff like various cyborgs and androids, animal humanoids of all varieties, whether human-like with some animal features (wings, ears, tails), human upper half and animal lower half (satyr, naga, centaur, just as examples, but even more than that), or even human bodies and animal heads... Basically self satisfaction for myself since I have many OCs in those categories LOL
Edit: some truly buff ladies and men too!
Edit 2: maybe some mold that look like they're made of melting candle wax... All sorts of weird aiens... Multiple extra limbs...
OH AND OBJECT HEADS, SO MANY OBJECT HEADS- you surely get the idea of the vibe I'd be going for, right?

    10. Oof, and here comes the realism! Indeed, in opening this sort of business I suppose the money wouldn't stretch too far *_* but I can pretend.... LOL

    11. Sorry. :sweat
Don't let me spoil your fun. No harm in day dreaming as long as one realizes that that is what it is. :)

    12. Mature 1/6s with clothes and wigs to go with them, all the way. With both older sculpts (like Ara said, 40+) and faces more along the style of Mori9 and JR (and other 75cm dolls coming from sculptors out of China). Since this is fantasy, even: collaborate WITH them to do those dolls!

With different body types, too, but because this is MY ideal company catered to me and my wants and needs... Primarily that type would be specifically the thing I'm interested in: mature(ish) but not super shredded male dolls. Really hard to find these days--even if they're slender, they have 8-pack abs and a bunch of other muscles you don't really see unless the person in question is super dehydrated or actively flexing for a photograph. And I don't want them! And I don't want to sand! So in this parallel universe where I have unlimited funds and ergo don't need to sell to anyone but myself... :wiggle Give me them beanpoles!! I will love and treasure them all.

The clothes/wigs thing would be key... Shoes, too, dagnabbit! Modern streetwear styles, suits, fantasy stuff... (If I'm forced to temper realism in, mostly the first 2 with limited sets of the last one.) Again, since this is fantasy: some basic patterns to offer for free, too. And hey, for fun: an ABS (or other similarly budget-friendly material) line, to make them more affordable for new hobbyists and potential hobbyists who might be on a more limited budget.

    13. I would create a 1/3 line with a ton of body options, and heads that could fit any of them in any combination! Skin and bones, muscular, nicely toned, softer, chubby, curvy, fat, male, female, gender neutral, tall, short, average, at least 10 different human skin tones and a few fantasy colors and additional fantasy parts! I'd also want a range of face sculpts, including some much older ones. I'd really like to see some dolls meant to look 40 and much older, even elderly, rather than teenagers and young adults.

Also, a pet line! Dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, birds, farm animals, wild animals, etc, but sold relatively cheap to make pet dolls more accessible to people. I've got a few Eve Studio cats that I absolutely adore, and I'm not at all saying the artist doesn't deserve the money, but the price point definitely limits me on having a whole menagerie of their animals. So if I had unlimited money, I'd like to have maybe a $50-150 range depending on species and size so we can have pets for all!

    14. Oh dammit that's the other thing I would make.

Ball Jointed Horses in different scales.

      • x 6
    15. ALL the fantasy dolls in all kinds of fun colors!! Let me make my dozens of DnD characters and inflict them in doll-form upon the world xD This would involve a range of body sizes and types and maybe it'd be a sort of modular systems where torso a will work with arms and legs a, b or c, torso b will work with parts b,c,d, etc. so people could kind of mix and match to get their perfect base for their own characters.

    16. You've inspired me. My hypothetical company will also sell ball jointed dragons, wolves, and big cats, in different scales, and saddles and bridles for all sizes.

    17. I do actually have plans to make a ball jointed horse but that's going to be modifying an Our Generation posable horse rather than starting from scratch and doing it in resin and it's currently waiting for warmer/less wet weather.

While it's only 1/4 scale that I've found it in, I've already found the single best miniature saddle that I've ever seen. I want to try my hand at making my own tack anyway, but I'm glad to have the backup.

    18. Ohh, yes! Ball jointed animals of different sizes would be so fun!
