Wait! I came up with another question! Will the noobness never cease?

Jeeryama's page lists Zhu Qing's head circumference as 17.6cm. If I get a wig listed as 18-18.5cm, will that fit? If I get something to hold the wig on will it look alright or will it look odd/awkward because of the size?

 

to be honest i did that exact same thing! and it really didn't work out as well as i liked. this wig was the one i got for him and no matter what i did the hair just wouldn't stay out of his face! i know that is the style but it literally covered all of his face!

on top of that it was way too loose! you could always pad it with some tissue and use a rubber band but IMO it doesn't look the same. but it could be a great quick fix if you are waiting for one that fits better. i eventually got my guy a 6/7 fairyland wig and it fit perfect!

i know i have said this already but when i bought from Jeeryama i didn't have a very good experience. and if you look at the feedback thread here you can see that when they first started out it was really bad and gradually the feed back has gotten better. my main problem with them was the really bad communication. but that is just my experience. i just thought i would give you a heads up. sorry for the rant

 

Ah, thank you! Actually, the wig was coming from FM-Anime, but I wanted to be sure of the size before I spent the money on it. Too big, eh? I guess bangs can always be trimmed, but if the top of the wig/head looks awkward than it's no good. Blug. I may have to make my own after all. So much for my attempts to be lazy. XD

just to save you a heck of a lot of headache just go for the wigs that are a 6/7 or a solid 7 they fit really good.

these are some really bad pics sorry! but he is wearing a Fairyland 6/7 Jessie wig. it was a tiny bit too tight but i just stretched it a bit and BAM! perfect!

Yeah... I'm probably just going to end up making a wig. I have a very specific idea of what I want and I don't think I'm going to be able to get it in 6/7 or 7 without special ordering it.

I'm just glad someone got back to me before I spent that money. ^^; I just looked at the size and thought, "If this turns out not to work I'll be annoyed."

 

man i know the feeling of being totally annoyed at wigs! for me they are the hardest thing to shop for! i am currently looking for a longer shaggy boy wig for my lati rei and am having the same problem that i was with my IS!

 

It doesn't help that I'm just a horribly picky person. I know exactly what my character looks like, and I refuse to compromise. I made custom eyes because he has odd pupils. I could not buy eyes that looked like that, so I made them myself, feeling slightly sad that he's stuck with acrylic and doesn't get glass because of it.

The same thing's happening with the wig. I know exactly what it should look like. I've been shopping for about a month now and still haven't found it. Unless I can get the one I was just looking at in the right size. Time for an email attack!

EDIT: So something 17-17.5cm or 17.5-18cm would fit him better? If I'm going to do a custom order it's gonna be done right! *waves pitchfork*

17.5cm-18cm would be good considering the 6/7 was just a tiny bit snug. and then you have to worry about the hair cut being long enough around the ears to look natural and not like he has a receding hairline. if you are having it custom made then give the measurements around the head and then from top of the ear to the top of the other ear. or even send them pics of the measuring tape on his head, that usually works really well.

Heh. My doll is not home yet, so I can only go by given measurements. But the cut I'm looking at should be able to hide most non-fittingness as long as it's not horribly large or small.

Finally glad I though to search for an IS discussion. I'm aiming to buy my first doll for my birthday, and I was about to order it when I saw the LE Cantarira pictures... I am IN LOVE! But... I'm still not sure. And I only have until Tuesday (which happens to be my birthday, talk about belated) to preorder him. The other doll, though, I've been looking at for months. Any advice? Is the IS body nice? What about the resin? (Has anybody ordered an SD size IS before?)

 

I believe some people on DOA may own Toki. And.... I really can't say anything else becaause I'm still waiting on my doll. ^^;

i am going to start off saying that i love my IS! but i must say i have some very real problems with his resin. it was either they didn't clean out the mold properly or the resin wasn't mixed very well but he has gray smudges all over his legs and torso his body poses very nice, but that is after working with him a little because his string was so tight. as far as the looks of his body i like it but it is very basic and he is fairly thin. which is what i wanted in a boy doll any way.

this is all my opinion and i must say i DID get him when the company first started and only had 2 sculpts. so the resin problems could just be because they were so new. i highly recommend them tho! very beautiful sculpts.

 

Probably should've done this yesterday, but...

Otavi came home yesterday! Whee! I love him very much. He's so wonderful! He did come extremely tightly-strung (that shall be fixed tomorrow), and I think he may have the same gray smudges as dev-nyo's doll on one of his ears. That's it, though! Oh, one set of his eyelashes isn't glued in very well, but eh. That's not really that big of an issue since I was going to be switching his eyes anyway.

He sits beautifully, needing no support, but I'll wait to test his full posing ability after he's restrung and stops kicking me and hitting himself.

What problems I did find so far don't bother me. Bonding occurred as soon as I had him out of the box. I love him!

 

I started the Database thread for IS a while ago. Never thought about finding the discussion thread... so now here I am.

I own a IS Toki, second hand. As my first doll (and currently only) I haven't noticed anything odd about this mold or company. I do want to say one thing though, his hands are very small and feminine. I am wondering if I should order the IS jointed hands that came out, or chance it with a Dika which might be a bit bigger.

The 1/3 IS dolls also fit Dream of Doll's Teen collection quiet well. I tested a type two for Moren and there was only an issue with an armband not fitting right and the back is a bit more muscular then the IS mold.

As a note... every non anime/bjd will call him a girl. Maybe it's the wig... not sure yet though.

 

Hahahaha... Yeah, so many people have thought Otavi is a girl... I think it's the wig, mostly. It's too big.

I did notice what you said about the hands too, though. I want to get Otavi jointed hands and I was thinking of getting Dika's girl jointed hands, since those would probably fit him better than boy hands. But then I thought I'd wait and see if IS comes out with 1/4 jointed hands, since they have 1/3 out already.

Next month Im going to be ordering Cantarella next month I cant wait. I cant fiend any oner pis on him and I know one perso who bot him and I cant fiend them to ask them what they think of the face up.... Hes going to be my 1st doll and Im hoping hes every thing Im hopeing for. oh Im getting him with the full set if they still have it for sell nex month.

I've been looking at Illusion Spirit's 1/3 boy dolls, since they have that fantastic sale going on right now...

Has anyone noticed the 1/3 male heads being rather large? The pictures on the IS site are hard to judge, but they appear to have heads that are much larger than human proportions would suggest. I want my boy to be able to be pictured with my other SD, which is an AOD girl. Her head is pretty proportionate, so I wanted to make sure any man who hangs out with her appears to be from the same species : P
