Imperfect dolls being 'perfect'?

Jun 14, 2014

    1. My Tobi has a few little nicks and he was kept in the box two months before I bought him at a meet because the owner couldn't connect with him. I felt so bad for the poor baby I had to buy him. I love giving homes to things that are not considered 'perfect', and this includes dolls!

    2. My Angel Region Cien has a damaged faceup and a chipped ear. When I got her, her eyelashes where gone but her eyes where still glued into her eye sockets. My guess is that her previous owner didn’t like her eyelashes so they ripped them out with pliers/tweezers, chipping her eyeliner, ear, and scrapping her sealant in the process. Despite her flaws, I adore her. I don’t know why, but I actually like her flaws. My favorite picture of her is the one that best shows her chipped eyeliner.

    3. I Have an off-topic doll with MANY imperfections and she's my favorite :aheartbea

i think imperfections can be lovely as they truly make your doll one of a kind!

    4. My DT Seola, Fawn, is one of those perfectly imperfect dolls. She's eight or nine years old and this is her third home. I'm pretty sure she's yellowed, because she's too peachy for freshskin and not quite golden enough for Oriental. But I like the color. She also can't stand without some kind of support - her knee joints are totally unstable - so she either has to sit in photos or use a pair of crutches. (Not my idea - the friend I bought her from thought of it, and was kind enough to include them.) She's a little beat up, I'll admit - but I love her because of it. She's my doll from the Island of Misfit Toys.

    5. I bought most of my dolls second-hand, the one with the most problems is probably my Narsha. Her headcap is the worst, it won't stay on. I probably should replace the magnets but I don't know how to take them out.
The first time I saw her it was at a meeting, and she fell from the sofa. Face first on the ground, but she only lost her headcap XD she's not that delicate.
That problem with the headcap is annoying but beside that she's perfect. And you can see her looking pretty in my avatar :)

    6. As long as the imperfection is not too distracting, I do not mind. Face shine bothers me. I do not like the sweaty look!

    7. I think all the dolls I ever had had a small imperfection or another, BJD or not, independently of their price, rarity, or shop...
Maybe it is something about the casting, or the color is flawed at some points, or one hand has strange nails, or the texture of the resin is different at some very small point, or the doll has strange nails, things like that.

I really don't mind them, these are things you can only notice if you are looking for them very intently, so they don't affect the overall look of the doll in any way whatsoever, so why should they affect how I feel about the doll? :p

    8. I think nothing is really ever perfect in the sense that it is flawless, especially not something that is handmade. There are things we don't mind, things we find add character, and things we cannot accept. Which is which is up to each individual, but yes, dolls with imperfections can definitely be just perfect for people :) Of course all flaws and irregularities should be disclosed, since one person's that's no big deal is another's deal breaker.

    9. I have ordered almost all of my dolls blank and have done my own faceups. I am very much an amateur, but sometimes I feel like I'm Michelangelo, coaxing the character's face out of the plain resin. And if it turns out a bit wonkus, well, I suppose that's just how she looks (for now!).

A couple of my dolls are also pretty fussy posers. One is very stiff, even after restringing. It actually suits her character, who is rather standoffish and awkward. Another one has very finicky arms, one of which seems to always snap up so that her hand is by her neck. It makes her look like she's twirling her hair or fidgeting while bored on the shelf, so I've wound up finding it pretty charming.

My first doll--poor thing--has quite a few dings from my learning days! Dented wrists, scratched knees, a questionable haircut... if she can put up with my messing with her, I can put up with her being a little messy :)

    10. My Resinsoul Mei came to me with legs that are darker than other parts of the doll XD It is the same coffee skintone but the shade is different. It doesn't bother me, I like her) And this difference cannot be easily seen when the doll is dressed.

    11. At first I was really concerned with keeping my dolls nice and having new dolls, but since then I've relaxed a lot and now I do enjoy the flaws in my dolls because it means I can play with them without being constantly afraid and worried they will get yellowed or scratched (within reason, I'm still careful). I like handling and playing with my dolls, so I have realized that yellowing and small damaged are endearing, like scars on human skin: "Oh that one is from when my cat scratched me, and this one was when I burnt myself cooking..." its the same way with dolls. My first girl has started to yellow in places and its only made me love her all the more :aheartbea
Plus when I was a kid, my favorite toys were always the old and grubby ones, they were irreplaceable because of all their imperfections.
