impulse?

Aug 5, 2014

    1. I brought a few dolls on impulse before and ended up selling them because we didn't get a long well, and ever since that, I take my time and really think about a doll before I buy it now, I make sure I really really love everything about the doll, that it meets all of my standards and the character that I have made.

    2. I bought my Impldoll Gnaeus on impulse, then wondered why I had done it for months. But when he arrived I instantly fell in love with him- now he's definitely one of my favourites!! So sometimes you can trust your impulse instincts :P

    3. Oh dear. I've just made an impulse buy.
I've been trying to save up for a minifee Chloe, but then I saw some pictures of minifee Siean and fell in love with her. I saw a head up for sale on the marketplace and I brought it. Now they are either going to have to body share for a while, or Chloe is going to have to wait. *_*
This happened when I was trying to buy my first doll too. I really wanted an Iplehouse jid Tatiana or Tania, and then I fell in love with the Cecile sculpt and bought her with what I'd saved up instead.

    4. I impulse bought a DC Barbara but I don't regret it :P

I saw her picture and immediately had to have her. Without thinking really lol.

I constantly impulse buy clothes and wigs as well. >.<

    5. Impulse buys - yup, had a few. Some are gonna stay forever, like my Volks Link or the old F-28 I got from Mandarake. Probably also little Akira from Mandarake - will have to see him with his new face first, though.

Others - like DZ Freddy or the DZ Faery - very likely won't stay with me.

    6. My biggest impulse doll is my second Bjd and for me honestly it was a good thing. She has no story and she is literally a full set so she's not to unique but how many people were able to resist the Luts, Kid Delf Yul. (I was not able to... XD) The special limited edition. I bought the human version of her but she was so beautiful I just bought her no questions asked, I didn't think about it, I don't regret it. I feel like any dolly you buy you should like in some form or else what caught your eye about the Bjd in the first place right. Anyway I can't talk for other members but I love my impulse buy to bit's. <3

    7. Do you have a set specific list then see something and BAM you have to have it?
So far my list is just bodies which i desperately NEED for my floating heads and then their are the dolls that after I have everything in and settled I might like to have just as a couple of extras but yes for the most part, all three of my dolls that are on layaway right now are Limited Editions so I could wait too long to think it over. I however did wait a couple of days before the end of the ordering period for my luts Forgotten Story Cream where I tacked on the KDF Bory Zeus because i jUST HAD TO HAVE HIM
How do you stop yourself from the ever vigilant impulse demon?
I can't say that I have stopped myself as I was completely broke when I saw the Luts LE dolls for their summer event (cream and bory) but I was still making up plans of how I was going to afford them. I received quite a sum of money from graduation so I was actually able to purchase them (granted on layaway so that i could at least tell myself I wasnt spending it all then.
Have you shifted all of your money that you were saving for the grail dolls to purchase this new doll that you just saw?
My grail doll(heads) I already have but they still need bodies but I have to but that off due to my luts order still on layaway and a new order I just made >.>
What are some of your impulse stories
Just a few days ago I saw someone post on tumblr about Bambi Crony's new LE Flower Faerie Mae and fell completely in love, but there will only be ten copies manufactured ever so I died a little inside. The next morning after having stressed the entire night about her thinking she'd be completely sold out, I put her in my cart and made a note in the order that I was putting her on layaway and then payed my 30%. TBH I'm still stressing a bit about it cos my parents don't like me to spend tons of money but I don't think I'd have let myself forget it if I had let her go.

    8. I see a lot of dolls and have that "OMG! I have to have it!" moment! But I've learned control. Haha.
      Though I've never really impulse bought a doll before. Not yet anyway. And when I do, I'm sure my boyfriend will kill me. > A>;;
BUT! I'm sure the day will come and I will feel bad and then when the doll came I'd be super happy.
I always have to save for my dolls as I have bills and stuff to pay.
But I have been kinda impulse buying when it comes to their clothes and stuff. It's kinda bad. OTL
I need to stop that. But I guess that's how I know I'm getting back into the hobby. Lol.

    9. My first doll was an impulse buy, and the experience is one I am not eager to repeat. She arrived so poorly strung that I could barely get her dressed, let alone pose her. I can't restring her myself due to disabilities, which only added to my frustration. That doll now resides in her box under my bed, which is where she's been since I got her back in July.

Needless to say, I learned my lesson. I won't impulse buy a full doll ever again, let alone from a little-known company.

    10. I will shortly be the victim of an impulse buy... at the moment I'm waiting for my paycheck and a pukifee body to come on the marketplace so my plan was set in motion........until....... I was browsing the marketplace and saw a MNF Juri head that was totally beautiful and I just had to have it! So now I'm thinking I might have to have that Juri head if there are no pukifee bodies, but I don't really want two floating heads....oh dear :doh

    11. The majority of my impulse buys have been art house dolls, mostly from Doll Chateau. I don't know what it is about their stock images that makes me break into my dolly funds.

    12. Luckily my first doll was one I didn't buy on impulse and I was able to make sure I really wanted him before committing $300 to him. His clothes on the otherhand...? I messed up on the shipping, and had to come up with a resolution quick, so I bought him a whole outfit and wig. It was a bad thing, but I had to get him clothes anyway. I've been sitting on buying my second doll for a month now, which gave me time to think up a way to get more bang for my buck.

Sadly though, my impulse buying struck again recently :sigh I'm just glad I have the money and can work something out

    13. I have seen quite a few dolls I wanted to impulsively buy. However, I am in medical debt and am attempting to pay off my first car. So, after looking at prices, how much I can honestly afford, and comparing sites I am able to quell my desire. *_*

    14. Almost all of my dolls were pretty much impulse buys. >>

It's actually worked out pretty well for me so far! I only got two "duds" that I absolutely couldn't bond with, but I sold them to fund my next impulse. XD Usually I make a decision to buy a doll really fast and follow through within a day or two.

That's probably why most of my dolls are limiteds.

    15. I'm pretty picky about my dolls and do plenty of thinking before I actually buy one, but......well, a short bit ago I saw an event with Doll Love and had never really looked at their dolls before. So I was looking about and saw You You (style 2) and was like 'OMG O_____O' and bought her without thinking. I mean, it's actually okay because she suits one of my characters perfectly, but I usually spend a ton more time thinking about whether to get a doll or not, plenty of reasons I have to go over.
Now I feel like I need to set up a rule for myself: no looking at doll stores online until 1. my 2 layaways are paid off & 2. I can afford it! haha.

    16. I think that I can consider my first BJD as an impulse buy more than anything else. I just saw her company photos and I went 'oh, I have to have her!', and ended up getting her a day or two after. I realized that maybe I should have just gotten the unlimited version of her, seeing as I didn't really like [nor did I get] her stock clothes anyway, except for her shoes, that is. x'D
Although, now that I have her, I don't really regret it that much, and, so far, I don't really have any plans on giving her up or selling her, so I guess everything ended well enough.
I suppose that in the end, I might end up buying more dolls [or, well, dollie clothes] on impulse, but these days, it's easier to curb the urge to do so, seeing as my funds are going off to pay for sort-of layaways for another hobby.

    17. Do you have a set specific list then see something and BAM you have to have it?
I started out that way for sure, making a list of "I'll get this doll and then this one, and this one to be their sister" etc etc etc. But as collections grow, characters develop and change and plans do tend to evolve with it. Suddenly you might see a doll you'd never considered before and suddenly you realize they're perfect!
I think impulse buys have only happened to me three times? And all three are still here! I generally tend to know what I like so impulse buys aren't something that I worry about too much (aside from the obvious financial implications!)

How do you stop yourself from the ever vigilant impulse demon?
Well, that basically comes down to money. I'm lucky enough that if something comes up and it's a limited time thing I can usually swing it without needing a layaway but that doesn't mean I need to. I usually remind myself of the dolly goals I've set for myself which mostly include things like building their wardrobes and acquiring some props, more photography equipment etc - things that can't happen if I bring home dolls I don't *need*.
Space is also an issue, I know I feel more comfortable with fewer dolls than lots because then no-one gets too neglected XD

Have you shifted all of your money that you were saving for the grail dolls to purchase this new doll that you just saw?
I can't say this has happened to me yet no. I don't really have grail dolls (maybe the term means something different to me than most, to me a grail is a long-sold out limited or something really hard to get and I've not fallen for any of those yet - luckily all my loves have been standard releases for the most part). The impulse buys have fortunately come up at a time when I wasn't currently saving for anything else :)

I think impulse buys are something that's a natural part of any hobby (or just life in general??), but as long as you don't put yourself into financial strain over them just don't stress over plans gone awry and enjoy the experience and the lovely dolls! And chances are that if it doesn't work out for you there will be someone else out there who will love to take them off your hands ;)

    18. I just impulse bought a Doll Chateau Elsia. I'm a major budgeter and this whim caught me completely by surprise.

    19. All of my dolls were impulses. I've never regretted a single one. (While I Never look at places to buy dolls unless I intend to buy a doll) I'm not really a planner, I style my dolls when they come and allow them to progress naturally So I never have the issue of my dolls not being what I wanted them to be. Sometimes dolls from lesser know companies have their issues when they get to me, but part of the fun for me is figuring out how to fix the problems.

    20. I have impulse bought dolls a lot and I should learn from it because I almost never end up keeping them. In the past, I had a lot of disposable income, and it was easy to buy a head or start a new layaway every month. Now, I don't have that and it's harder to have the money to impulse buy. I stick to my list a lot better now.
