1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

In your opinion which one doll company to you is the most expensive??!!

Sep 9, 2014

    1. Taking art dolls out of the equation I'd say Volks, particularly on the second-hand market. Then Soom if you are looking for a fullset monthly doll :)
But any fullset limited edition from any company is going to cost.

    2. I like to break it down into price per centimeter. For example, one of my Volks dolls cost about $780 and he's about 63 cm tall 780/63 =12.38 per centimeter. On the other hand one of my Angel Egg dolls cost me $510 and is 30 cm tall. 510/30 = 17 per cm. So by far my most expensive dolls are my Angel Egg girls, though I have Volks & Soom dolls that cost more. And I used to have this silly rule about not paying more than $10 per cm for a doll! Pfffft! The only doll collecting rule is 'there are no rules!'

    3. I think that most expensive in first place is Volks, the second is SOOM:pout:

    4. Volks seems to be the more expensive and some artist doll also

    5. I'm surprised how many people are tossing out Volks as being the most expensive. You have to consider what their dolls come with; Wig, shoes, multi-part clothing, glass eyes, etc. For MSDs it's about $580/$600 to buy direct and $350ish for standards. Then I think Sooms most recent MSD size is $380 w/o anything, Luts also $260~300 w/o anything.

So in the end it's actually cheaper to buy Volks. Most companies have the same general price range, though, so I don't actually see one being more expensive than the other since you'd be arguing +/-$50.

    6. ^This. Volks dolls come with many extras that other companies leave out, so although the asking price looks higher, if you bring everything into the equation, you tend to save money.

In the end, I think that with the competition on the market, there isn't much difference in price. Higher end dolls all seem to circle around the same price tag, as do middle end and lower end dolls. Artist-run studios might be the only exception to this rule, because they have to deal with higher production costs (depending on where the artist lives).

    7. Soom is definitely expensive if you buy the special big dolls. My Soom Ignim was over $1500. She is not the most expensive doll I have purchased by far but most of the ones that cost over $1200 were on the secondary market.

Depending on accessories and options a Popovy Sisters doll can run $800 nude and unpainted to well over $3000 for all the bells and whistles. But for what they are I think the PS dolls are a good value.

Amen to that! And practically unattainable short of winning the lottery...and maybe not even then.

    8. This! And people say it's expensive when you factor in fullsets, but well, duh? Eyes, wigs and outfits are going to cost extra, as well as adding faceups and body blushing. I don't understand why people whine and complain at the fullset price when you consider what you get: a full doll, a pair of eyes, faceup and bodyblush, a pair of shoes, a full outfit, accessories and maybe resin extras like ears or horns or swords*

To actually answer the question, Fairyland and Little Monica are expensive considering what you get. But I totally appreciate the extra engineering (and aesthetics for LM) so whatever.

*Warning fullset may not come with items described, please contact your doll company for full details. Fullsets may cause bank account crying and heartbreak ;)

    9. Doll Chateau can be expensive, but the dolls are worth every penny!

    10. My most expensive was my Iplehouse Leonard from their Carved Heritage series. I go his clothes and weapons. Didn't even get the fullset, faceup or any of the blushing and it was already too much at $1240.

    11. I find Kaye Wiggs dolls are the most expensive in my collection if I figure in what I get for the money. Their resale prices are also astronomical.

    12. Pfft SOOM. Always. SOOM.

    13. Volks......

    14. Soom. Are their sculpts lovely? YES but omg spending over $700 on a basic doll (with fantasy parts) is soooo far out of my budget :sweat

    15. The most expensive doll I've ever purchased has been from Dollmore, and even that was on the second-hand market. I really love some of the more expensive ones from Soom and Iplehouse, as mentioned above, but I really can't justify spending that much money on dolls right now. :(

    16. The most expensive doll for me will be my I.O.S Ciel although I'll definitely cave and get Sebastian as well when he is released. I also like Soom but that'll wait until next year at least. I love Popovy but they're just so expensive.

    17. I've been into bjds since 2004 and have dolls from over 30 companies/artists.

I don't have an Enchanted Doll! I bet those would be pretty darn expensive. There are plenty of very expensive one-off art dolls out there!

Most of mine are the more typical BJDs...

Most expensive ones I have come from Soom, Iplehouse, Volks (and yes, it's true that if you don't count the stuff that comes with the dolls, they aren't more than Soom and Iplehouse), and Crobidoll (one of their 78cm)... and Kaye Wiggs (at the bottom of this short list).

... and expensive or not... I find what I buy definitely worth the price! :)

    18. I don't look at Volks or Soom dolls but I do look at Iple House just for the E.I.D Male body with a face up is around 900 dollers. Then If you want to do a complete doll with them its around $1250- to $1450 depending on your taste. But if you are patient you could get one cheaper at the Iple House Action. They will action off dolls sometimes and I have seen people get really good deal on them.

    19. The most expensive dolls I have purchased were some Iplehouse dolls that I adopted from the Marketplace, but they were both very reasonably priced at that.

In terms of the most expensive dolls I have seen online and elsewhere, Volks, Soom, and Iplehouse tend to be the most expensively priced, especially Volks. Some hard to find dolls and fullsets from these companies can easily sell for anywhere from 900-1500 USD.

    20. The most expensive I have purchased have been limited edition art dolls like the Angel Eggs, TriffonyArtworks, Akhmel Dolls, and the Popovy Sisters dolls. I would love to have a resin Enchanted Doll but they are rare as can be and run over $8000 US on the secondary market. As far as doll companies go it seems to me that most have dolls that can run the gamut of prices. I have a couple of Iplehouse Luna Tamers that cost about $800-$900 on the secondary market. One is the Chimera and the other was faced up by Cristy Stone so I was willing to pay more. I also have an AMAZING David Bowie minimee head on a great Dollshe body that was painted the incredible Katyok that I was happy to pay more to get. I think my FS Ignim from Soom was expensive as I said before. My recent layaway of the FS Ring Doll Dracula and Coffin is right at $1200. But looking through the MP over the years, I would think the Volks Dolls win top prize for cost as even some heads can cost hundreds.

Oh and by the way....recently a porcelain Enchanted Doll was auctioned off by the artist Marina Bychkova on EBay. If you don't follow her or know the cost of her Off topic porcelain EDs, that one sold in excess of $85,000 US.:o
