Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. In your opinion which one doll company to you is the most expensive??!!

Sep 9, 2014

    1. You are so right about Kaye Wiggs dolls. The release prices are VERY reasonable. But resales are off the charts. I recently sold one of mine for more than twice the purchase price. And the Koneko I was dying for a few years back cost me twice HER release price. But I ADORE her!

    2. Dollmore sells dolls worth $2,000. Who would buy a doll worth that much!? Why is it even worth that much?
      So far the most expensive doll I have is my first one, but I have a feeling my next one will be worth twice as much as my first. :lol:

    3. A lot of full sets come to mind. Though I recently ran into some websites with companies selling 1/3rds at 800+ and I kind of just stared at the laptop screen for a while. I'm not sure if the 1,000+ were full sets but I wasn't about to find out. Whatever floats people's boats but I was ready to abandon ship, figuratively speaking.

      I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. Both of the person who sold it and the person who could afford it >>;

    4. ...Only this doll wasn't really meant for small-time collectors like us so I don't see why anyone should be jealous? It was intended for dedicated art collectors and was sold as an one-off jointed sculpture. You can see just by the materials used that the initial price tag for it is several multiple times what our average doll fullset costs. It's a piece of art rather than just a doll and it was auctioned as such, the fact that it has joints has very little to do with anything else. 85k is quite a bit of money but I've seen art collectors spend seven digit numbers on the acquisition of single pieces so I don't find it all that surprising. The fact it even got that high means that there were bidders willing to scale the ladder all the way from 1k if that's any indication.

    5. I don't think the second-hand market counts, so I would say SOOM and Volks. I don't know much about SOOM, so they may be cheaper than what I've heard...

    6. If we're talking straight from the company, definitely volks for me. Second hand market wise, it's a tie between volks and fairyland for me ; A ;

    7. Fairyland are actually more expensive than Volks to purchase from directly.

      A Volks standard SD is $693 from VolksUSA. That includes the doll, a faceup, wig, eyes, and outfit. A Fairyland Feeple60 is $597 for a naked, blank doll with no extras. Adding just a faceup will bring the total to $667, a quick browing of their wigs shows they're around $30, which brings them to $697 without an outfit.

    8. From my personal collection, it would be FairyLand, with Soom coming in second. Though Soom has the cost of the parts brand new at a higher rate, most of my FairyLand dolls are hybrids, and so trying to get things like headbacks for a LittleFee certainly bring up the cost on the difficult hunt through the second hand market for backs of doll noggins.

    9. Volks!
      Then~ Soom, Iplehouse, Luts/Fairyland, and Switch

    10. Those $2,000 ones are that much because they're literally life size dolls, and you can't really get that size in the bjd aesthetic anywhere else, so they pretty much have a monopoly on it, making them free to charge as much as they like. I saw one in person and Ldoll and it was just as tall as me.

    11. Personally, when I look at all of the dolls I'm interested in on their various site, I find Iplehouse to be the most expensive. I'm not just talking about the dolls themselves either. Iplehouse dolls all have measurements that are close to other companies, but still off enough that buying clothing become slightly harder. When you add up the dolls and the items they need, especially if you get on the other LEs with all the items, plus some extras, they a pretty pricey.

    12. oh i didn't realize that! not that i have space/funds for it but the idea is very cool!

    13. I think that all of these dolls are expensive O_O
      I love this hobby, and if I was to become crazy rich, I could probably drop 10K here and now and not receive all that much bang for my buck, truly. I guess the most expensive dolls are the most obvious ( volks, fairyland, soom, iple, dollshe, unoas ) but to me, it doesn't matter if the doll is $300 or $900, if it is a grail doll, its worth it! I only have two dolls (both something like grails to me as I have obsessed non-stop over both long before actually getting them), and my second was $500 dollars for just the doll, including shipping. Yikes! :D

    14. Limited editions and fullsets can really put the price up whatever the company. Fairyland, Soom, Iplehouse, Volks and Ringdoll. My most expensive though is a hybrid because getting all the parts cost a lot more than a doll from a single company. I do find that the quality is amazing with those more expensive brands but sometimes a cheaper companies dolls will pleasantly amaze me too.

    15. If you mean expensive and worth the money. Iplehouse, Soom.

      Expensive and NOT worth the money, Volks.

      But this is just my opinion.

    16. Haha yeah, they really are a sight to behold in person. I don't even want to think about how heavy are...it must have taken at least two adults to haul that doll up the stairs and into the convention hall!

    17. For me, it's Dollshe. I would love to buy their 70cm doll because the sculpt is very nice but that price tag makes me cry T_T

    18. wow. I can't imagine... still harder to imagine the molding process actually! $2k doesn't sound unreasonable at all...

    19. When I was searching for a body for a head I wanted to get, I was alarmed at how expensive Dollstown bodies were compared to others of their size. Seriously, what the hell?

    20. Volks full-set limiteds, the SDs, are pretty much the most expensive (not including Enchanted Doll or other art dolls) - but as others have said if you average the price of Volks they are not any pricier than Soom, Iplehouse or Ringdoll etc. Harder to GET, yes... & the price when one has to get a buyer in Japan because no other way to get said doll goes wayyy up. But I managed to get my Ryomo on the MP, mint w/nothing opened, was about the same as the original price. So that worked for me & he's WELL worth the money!
      By far my most expensive doll - & I've got a Ringdoll Full Set Kirin, an IH Dexter & Mari (both w/only partial full-sets) plus an Idealian Hyperion (not a full set but blushed) - all limited editions which I got from the companies. None were as much $$ as the Volks - plus got to order them NEW from the company online w/no problems.
