1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Inspiration from where and to what?

Jun 23, 2011

    1. Inspiration comes from me trying to "humanize" something. What would this song look like if it was a person? This mythical creature? This trinket? This jacket? Even abstract things like an atmosphere I will try to put into a human (or part human) form. Characters are easy to form this way, the bare bones come quick and then you can spend some time developing details. It's a great character design exercise for anything, and sometimes I come up with something that would fit a BJD well. Of course I'll get ideas for props and clothes the same way, taking the essence/aesthetic of something into a new form. It's actually a lot of fun, and it allows you to take inspiration from any little thing you come across.

    2. Most of my inspiration comes from a hyperactive imagination and something to stir the pot, so to speak. if it exists, there's a story in it somewhere. I've lost count of the times I'd be minding my own business doing my thing when a story idea related to the subject at hand pops into my head.

    3. My inspiration...started with a floating head. I bought my Leekeworld Lionel because of comparatively manly features (for the time). I did not really know what to do with him, tried to sell him, pulled him back. Then the first Marvel Thor movie came out, and it hit me like sledgehammer. This face was Loki's! Then all came together. I wanted to create (most) of the Avengers. However, I gave them my own twist.

Then Leonard Nimoy passed away, and I wanted something to keep my memories of Mr. Spock alive. However, he has developed much farther (you will see in a WIP-thread) than the original.

Now I thought that I was finished with my crew...but somehow there are still new ideas popping up...be it movies, stories I read, this forum (that may even be the major share of my inspiration), shopping, nature, music...really just anything . Usually I can control it, but if the right sculpt comes along...it may happen that I will put this inspiration into reality. It mostly depends how much I want it, I guess...

    4. My character is influence a lot by Alice in Wonder Land. Pan's labyrinth. Labyrinth. Dark crystal. A book I got as a kid. So forth. Way back in the olden days artists were hated by the church. Because they thought artists were stealing god's image by painting people and sceneries. So I guess the same applies here. I watch a lot of other artist. I love television and seeing what people can come up with. And in the end it all influences me.

    5. Hmm I get inspired from anything it could be fashion to music or just from a whole bunch of ideas bubbling up. The 90's and pop culture have a big influence on me but usually its from a story I wrote and random sketches.

    6. When I see a doll I love, I don't necessarily have a preconceived idea of what I want the doll to be. If I can come up with a solid character for the doll, I'm more likely to purchase the doll. In order to come up with their character, I'd say that music is my main inspiration, but I also draw inspiration from movies and books as well.
