It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ionizing devices and dolls

Jun 13, 2022

    1. Hi everyone!
I’m sorry for asking such a thing, but why are ionizing devices bad for resin?
Will keeping the dolls inside the box when using such devices save them from harm?
No idea for how long ions would stay in the air though.

    2. Ionizing radiation (such as UV A and UV B) are the main reason why resin will yellow. It may also make the resin brittle over time as well. That's why most folks will recommend you to keep them away from ionizing radiation like those from the sun.

However, ionizing devices (such as salt lamps) gives out negative ions which do not last long in the air. Most of them do not work as advertised, either. (Ionizer Air Purifiers: What Is It and How Does It Work? | Molekule Blog ) But most importantly, they do not give out ionizing radiation (incidentally, a lot of the "anti-5G", "anti-radiation" products on line -do- give out ionizing radiation).

So long story short: 1. Keep your dolls away from ionizing radiation (like that of the sun) for preservation.
and 2. Look into your own ionizing device. Know what they do and know what kind of "ionizing" they do, and when it doubt, keep them as far away as possible. Concentration of anything is closest at the source, and drops exponentially with distance.

      Hope this helps!

    3. Probably because they make ozone? Which reacts with certain plastics but it’s also a health hazard. Ionizers are really not a great choice for home air purification hepa filter devices are better.

    4. Agreed, ionizing air purifiers are really bad for you. They're supposedly just as bad as second-hand cigarette smoke. And they don't even really work better than regular hepa filters.

    5. Personally I can't stand ionizing devices because I hear the high pitch noise they give off. Drives me up the wall.

    6. I echo what the above posters said. Ionizers can be very dangerous - my mother became very, very sick from a reaction to ozone produced by such an "air cleaner" and had to have sinus surgery. Definitely do some research on them! Hepa filters are safer and work very well for filtering out common allergens like dust, pollen, etc.

    7. Oh thank you so much, that was very clarifying!!!

    8. Actually I don’t use air purifiers, I have a dehumidifier. Where I live it’s way too humid and mold grows everywhere if I don’t use it. Since I’m very, but very allergic to mold the dehumidifier beeing there helps me way more than if it’s not. It does emit some ions though, and I was starting to get concerned. When I’m not playing with my dolls I keep them stored inside their boxes, so hopefully it won’t affect them that much.

    9. With ionizers it is recommended to leave the premises when it is running and air out really well before entering again. They are used for clearing smells of cigarettes, urine, paintfumes, mold, staleness, decay, death and other offending smells. It can also make plastic break down quicker, and resin is plastic. I would not use an ionizer in the same room as my dolls unless they had a smell that I could not get off by washing or sanding. And I would certainly not let myself or any other living being be in the same room as a running ionizer for more that the time it takes to turn it on or turn it off and open the windows.

    10. Ah ok! Yes, I think that’s an extreme example of ionizer. I don’t think ehat I have is that powerful, specially because it’s not the main function it has. But good to know.
