    1. Iplehouse is like Fairyland - a highly recognizable brand that can basically beat off customers with a stick and still be fine. Or at least they used to be.

      This is what I've observed just from 2020-ish to now:
      • To prevent getting overwhelmed, Iplehouse used to limit Doll Choice to the first 15 days of the month, and they would release sizes of dolls you could order during limited periods, such as the FID size. Now, Doll Choice appears to open all month long, and all FID dolls are available any time your heart desires to order one.
      • Iplehouse lost several people who split off to start their own companies. Jay started SartoriaJ, and based upon the outfits you can get from them, I'm pretty sure Jay was the source of Iplehouse's most intricate, detailed outfits (and some of their face sculpts, I suspect).
      • Another of their sculptors (the person who made the bodies, I'm guessing) struck out on their own and created Raccoon Doll.
      • Whoever did their hand, feet, and body blushing left too. I paid for hand blushing with my first FID Mari in 2021. Iplehouse no longer offers those services.
      • The face-up artist apparently struck out on their own, too - Iplehouse contracts out their face-ups. A blank doll takes around 60 days. If you want a face-up, it can be closer to 5 months.
      • I am guessing (but don't know for certain) that sales volume dropped. I never saw Iplehouse offer buy-a-head before 2022 (? right?), and they seem to offer sales all the time now. Back in 2020-21, there was one sale in the summer, one in the winter, and that was it.
      You can find lots of amazing independent face-up artists, wig makers, shoe makers, clothing designers, etc. both here and on Instagram. I suspect that at least some of them used to work for companies but realized that if they went freelance, they could charge more money, set their own hours/work schedules, and be more selective in what they were willing to work on.

I feel like it may also have something to do with the general cost of living skyrocketing over the last few years, as well as the poor currency conversion rates from USD to several other currencies, and increased customs fees. People just don't have the money to drop on big purchases as often any more, and the market is saturated with new artists (and sadly, more and more recasts tricking newbies with their cheaper prices).
      I still have an Arvid on my wishlist, but I've been seriously considering selling a bunch of my floating heads, just to be able to justify spending at least two paychecks on this fella.

    5. Yes, Iplehouse doesn't produce much "new" these days...it will be sad to think their best days are past.:pout:

    6. It was a bit sad to come back after a 5 year break to see that Iplehouse slowed down, stopped even, on producing new dolls/items. My first 7 or so dolls came from Iplehouse, and they're still my favorite company. At least half, if not more of my collection is Iplehouse.

      I still have several Iplehouse dolls on my want list, but I've been trying to get everyone caught up on faceups, wigs, eyes, and clothing. I had several sitting blank during my hiatus. But I have my last few dolls with a faceup artist now! And all but one of them are Iplehouse. :sweat

      RE: seemingly reduced offerings: Every couple of months, I've been going to Iplehouse and buying the clothes/shoes on my want list since they seem to disappear often. I'm thankful I got those Jesus-esque SID man sandals when I did, as they're no longer showing up on the site. Just have to make a pair of socks, and my guy will be set lol. I can sew, but my free time is limited and the full outfits that Iplehouse puts together are FAR more stylish than anything I could cobble together on my own.

      One of my more recent acquisitions was the SID Bohemian Summer Set, which I dressed my Vanessa in today. Of course, you can't see most of the outfit in this picture but I swear she looks so good in it.

    7. @Quirked - Yes, Iplehouse is still my favorite doll company. I still like the aesthetic of their bodies the best too...:) Your post made me go over and check out what clothing and shoes are still available. (They are having a small sale too!) I love to put things in my cart just for fun. Though, I might now purchase a few items I've wanted for a while.

      The SID Bohemian Summer Set looks fabulous on your girl. I noticed that they now use a different fabric than when it first came out. So, I dug up a photo of the robe/cover-all to see the older fabric. What I can see of the new fabric it still is very nice.

      While the underthings in that set are for SIDs, I did manage to put the robe on one of my HID ladies once...:XD:

      I am joking, of course, but Iplehouse is my "nostalgia" BJD company. Iplehouse Mari pulled me into BJD collecting. Iplehouse is my rule-breaker company: I try not to have too many bodies or dolls from one company unless the dolls are like Dream Valley - mermaid v. mantitaur v. elf. I don't like having two of the same face sculpt so I can have a wide variety.
      All of my little collecting "rules" end with "except Iplehouse."

    11. @luluna - Thank you! Yes, the fabric is definitely different, and is noted on the product page. The original fabric is what made me fall in love with the set, but the new fabric is a sufficient substitute.

      While the underthings are indeed for SIDs, my girl is an original body small bust and I still had a hard time fastening that little lace top on her. I thought it was going to fling itself across the room! :lol:

      And your Raffine is gorgeous! I'd love to have an HID lady in my collection... but none of their face sculpts are 'just right' for the character I have in mind. Ashanti was my original choice, but she was discontinued during my hiatus. I keep hoping that Iplehouse may release someone new that would work, but...lol. :pout:

    12. Does the "Coming Soon" that's on items that show available (clickable but not SOLD OUT) on the online store mean anything?

    13. Right now it looks like they have the YID girls under the 'Limited' section available again, with the option to add an additional head. I think it means that the limited SIDW are next? I ordered my Vanessa and Dean through an event like this in July of last year.

      So I'm assuming that it changes, as in eventually the Coming Soon for the other sizes like SID or EID means those dolls will be available for order.

    15. Has anyone tried SartoriaJ "71 ATH / NEW 71 ATH" clothing on an SID body, specifically a muscle type body? Is the size difference noticeable, like are the clothes super baggy or the opposite, like the fit but have a little wiggle room?

    17. I just adopted one of my dream dolls - an SID WS Claude!!! I'm so exited. My William the Wizard character can finally be shelled and it looks like I can finally use the fabric that I bought for this character back in 2011! :dance Well, I need to by more faux suede but at least the velvet for his cloak is still untouched after all these years! I should have him home pretty soon. It's so incredible to finally be seeing this dream realized. :D

      Does anyone have any Claude pics they want to share with me while I am waiting? :D
