Iplehouse EID and SID Discussion Part 16

Jan 22, 2015

    1. Oh yeah, I was wondering about the sizes too, different sculpt probably have different sizes of eyes even if they are all in the same doll size range. Are Eyeco eyes the same overall size as regular eyes or do they have a sizing system that would mean that I would have to pick something other than 14mm for it to be equivalent?

And pictures would be great if you want! That might help me get a better idea of what it would look like in my doll

    2. Because the whites are bigger, they have a different sizing system. 10mm are actually 11, 12mm is 13mm, and 14mm is 15mm. Three of my five take 12mm so I have 11's in them, and one of them, my nYID boy, takes 14mm so he has 13mm's. I'll post photos tomorrow, and a link for my nYID boy.

    3. Oh man I would have loved to get the full set. It really was amazing, my character is a marine so it would have gone great with him. I just couldn't afford it even on layaway. It's always the way though when you have spare cash floating around you'll never see a doll you fall in love with, when you're on a tight doll budget you see the most amazing doll or find your OOP grail second hand.

    4. And the logic that one fullset = funds for a new doll :dance

I know what you mean! I'm currently broke, and there are two Chrises being sold on the MP right now. Dang! XD

    5. I've found that 12mm Mako urethane eyes work in almost every Iple doll I have (a few are in glass eyes, the rest are in Makos or Enchanted Doll urethanes.) They have a slightly smaller, more realistic pupil, and they're low-dome, so they tend to sit well in the socket.

My chief complaint with silicone eyes (Eyeco/Masterpiece/Soom) is that they can collect dust like crazy -- and since I live in Ashbet's House of Allergies (hardwood floors, 2 cats, often not well enough to dust/Swiffer regularly), they often wind up with dust, cat hairs, or tiny fibers stuck to them. You can clean them with a damp Q-tip without taking them out of the doll, but I found that my macro lens was really unforgiving of any specks I might have missed.

OTOH, Masterpiece and Eyeco eyes can look great, they're perfect for wonky/irregular/slit-eyed sockets or for dolls that need a realistic iris but whose eyewells create gaps at the corners with the right-sized pupil. Since they can be molded into the socket, they're ideal for dolls who tend to gap.

(I have a modified Volks Sweet Dreams Tae head who just got Eyecos, because her eyewells needed 18mm whites in order not to gap, but her pupil size needed to be a smallish 16mm. They're perfect for her -- and I'll just swab them down before photo shoots.)

      -- A <3

P.S. Forgot to answer this before:

Bane and Victor are kind of at opposite ends of the EID-man spectrum -- Victor has a big head and a very large face for his head size (big eyes, especially compared to other EID men. Can anyone with a Victor and another EID guy tell me what their cranium measurements are? I think he probably takes a slightly larger wig than, say, Leonard.)

Bane has a small head, and a small face for his head size, to the point that in an EID line-up, it's noticeable.

The question, therefore, should be which dolls you're planning on having your EID alongside -- if they have smaller heads and smaller faces, go for Bane, because Victor might look disproportionate.

OTOH, you have Andy (who looks to have a relatively large head/face for an nYID -- Chris has quite a small and narrow face in comparison), and I'd guess Ember and Alex to be around mid-size when it comes to SID heads. Felix does have a narrower jaw, IIRC.

In that case, I'd take some head measurements of your dolls, compare them to Bane and Victor's measurements, look here and on Flickr to see if anyone has a Bane or Victor as well as a Felix or Eva or Eddie, so that you can look at comparison shots, and you can decide from there :)

P.P.S. Just to give you an idea of what Makos can look like in various IpleHouse faces -- I have 16 full Iple dolls with Iple heads (not counting my two hybrids, who have LLdT and Soom heads, respectively), and out of those, 8 are wearing Mako 12mm eyes:

      Gaki (Vampire Chris)
      Gremory (Human Chris)
      Magnus (Arvid)
      Blanca (Pamela)
      Balam (Leonard)
      Eva (Stella)
Nuit (Vampire Grace) Linking to a single photo for her, rather than her gallery (she's wearing light-colored 12mm glass eyes in some of her early photos, but the 12mm Makos worked better.)
Rue (Carina) Same thing - started with glass, but all her later gallery photos are with Makos.

Alastor (Vampire Claude) wears 12mm Dollshe urethanes (which gap a little, but the metallic copper is super-pretty), and Kumari (Asa) wears Enchanted Doll 12mm urethanes (perfect fit.)

So, 10 out of 16 are wearing urethanes, the other 6 wear glass. In general, I've found that glass eyes tend to be harder to fit, although oval Kemper glass eyes can work well for odd sockets . . . however, they don't reflect as much light as urethanes, and the colors are very limited.

Hope this helps -- something of an exhaustive list, but I thought it would be helpful to see how various eyes look in different Iple sockets :)

P.P.P.S. Here's Nuit in 12mm Mako urethanes, next to Aconite (JID Vampire Violet) in 10mm Dollshe urethanes -- as you can see, the iris size is very similar, but 10mm Dollshes will gap like crazy in larger sockets (and 12mm Dollshes run a little large in terms of iris size for my general preference.)

    6. I ate an entire sandwich reading this one post. Very informative!

    7. I love this quote. LOL!! :aheartbea

-- A, whose new nickname is "ONE ENTIRE SANDWICH" ;)

    8. This helped a lot, thank you so much! The Mako eyes seems to catch the light well and that's something that I look for in eyes too. Your dolls all look great too, btw. I'm impressed by the amount of IH doll that you have XD They should start sending some to you for free with that amount

Buying new eyes for my Evan actually are in my medium length doll plans so it might be a while until I buy them, but you helped me have an idea of what I should start looking for. Now I also have to pick a color, that's a tough choice haha

    9. If someone is interested - Leonard head from event sale (he is so cute!):

    10. He's beautiful :O I want!

    11. DarksStars hey sorry I haven't posted photos of the eyes yet. I'm a dog trainer/trainer's assistant and I just got a 7 week old puppy who has been taking up all my time. Still haven't gotten to my computer so I'll have to link the photos.

hope this helps and again sorry for the wait!

and Ashbet, I think I'm going to go with Victor because he looks more like Damian. The head size doesn't matter all that much to me because Damian, if he is Victor, will be around other dolls more for phoros and stuff since Andy isn't in the same story as him and Alex and Ember aren't even in stories. Damian would be around Bliss and Edan, since he's the main villain in their universe, well for the first book anyway ;)
plus I think Victorw sharp features would be fun with older aged makeup, since Damian's in his sixties I'll have to make him wrinkled.
I just like Bane's intense eyes and strong jaw lol

    12. Yay! The clothing sale had most of the clothes I was looking at for sale today! I'm really happy since now I won't have to worry about some of the tems being sold out later. How has it been for everyone else? Did you find items you wanted to buy on the sale? :)

taecelle: Wow! Congratulations! he looks amazing! :D I'm really happy for you that you managed to get him during the event! :)

    13. Here there are, my 3 boys with Eyeco silicon eyes. All they wear 11 mm in size (for Eyeco) so it's like 10 mm in regular size.
I find they give a very lifelike sigh to my boys (in my opinion but I'm partial, surely ! ^^)

Here is Edan with color Frisco :

Here is Shane, my Arvid. I think the color could be dreamy blue, I don't remember...

And Liam, my Claude, with a special color from Eyeco (they don't give a name for each, sometimes is just a code). I believe it's A214.

I hope that could help everyone here. ^^

    14. Thank you so much!! Glad to help . . . and, OMG, I would LOVE it if Iple took that attitude, LOL!! Loyalty club: buy ten, get one free? Yes please! ;)

Gotcha! Then, yes, go for the one who grabs you the most :)

Grrr, I wish they had the sale stuff in a category (say, their "Iple Special Sell: Now On Sale" link on the left side of the front page), rather than having to page through a million items in every doll size/gender to find the little sale banners on some of the pictures.

Is there a better way to view all the sale stuff at once?

They look fantastic! Your boys are all so handsome :kitty2

      -- A <3

    15. I found only one thing I liked for SID in the clothing sale, and I ended up deleting it from my order so I could buy more things for my smaller dolls. I spent way too much money as it is.

Wish that Loyalty Club were a reality! I could use a couple of freebies right about now.

Oh, and for the record, most of my large Iples wear 11mm Eyeco urethanes, although I am beginning to switch some of them over to glass eyes. I'm finding that the whites of some of my older Eyecos have begun to yellow. Here is Shane in his Eyecos. Unfortunately I don't remember which color they are. When they're all out of their cases, it's hard to remember which eyes came from which case.

    16. Eyeco makes acrylic (hard/"Polyglass") and silicone ("soft glass") eyes -- the ones you have look like silicone eyes.

They don't make urethanes at all -- not trying to be nitpicky, but if someone were reading this and thought that urethanes were prone to yellowing (some do, very slightly, but not to the degree that silicone eyes can change color over time), it would be incorrect info.

They look great in your white-haired guy there -- which sculpt is he?

      -- A :)

    17. I agree! It would be so much easier to check if all the items were in one place.

I made a "wish list" last night with the items I was interested in just in case they ended up for sale but of course I ended up looking through each individual page anyway just in case some of the older clothes should show up or in case there was something that really wanted to be purchased that I had forgotten about. I'm still hoping that one of these days Iplehouse will find a pair of sold out pants that I've been looking for a long time and put them up for sale again ;)

I feel that is always a bit of a problem with the collecting. Because it really does eat a lot of the budget and somehow I feel that there is always something some of the dolls are missing in their wardrobe.

I found two pairs of pants and one set of underwear I was going to get if they were still there later on this year. So I was very happy to be able to get them during this sale :) I didn't want to miss out on this opportunity. Also since buying a Leonard on the Carved Heritage event isn't possible for me right now I thought that "well this will cost a lot less and my EID guys will be happy if they get pants..." (The boys are having a small issue with there not being enough pants and shirts so that everyone can wear a full outfit at the same time.... we do however have neckties for far too many dolls in their wardrobe :sweat).

    18. Thank! I can see the the iris are a bit smaller, they look much more realistic! (and omg your job sounds so fun)

Your Arvid is stunning omg *o* I was thinking of making getting pale blue eyes since my Evan is in real skin and I like the contrast and now I see that it does indeed looks really good.

Haha, a loyalty club would be interesting! Buy 5 dolls and get a free BID or Buy 10 dolls and get a free SID XD

    19. for you guys with looking thru sale page probs... just go to each doll size then select 'view 50'... most are only 2 pages or one page then and they have the prices on those pages too... much quicker

    20. Sorry--you're right. They are silicone. I think I tried Eyeco's hard acrylic once and didn't like how they fit.

The white haired guy is SID Shane in NS.
