IpleHouse JiD Mini Discussion Part 19

    1. What a wonderful couple :aheartbea... Young and beautiful!!!! :aheartbea

    2. My poor Benny has spent way too long hidden away in a box so I thought it was time to give her some attention, and I've fallen in love with her all over again. Her name is Kate by the way.

    4. Anybody else loving their JID dolls? Tania (regular) was my first Iplehouse doll of any type. She and Stephanie (Noctarcana Circus Tania) are my beloved BJD daughters, along with Momoko doll Madalaine. I love to spend time with them

    5. I still love mine! Seems they don't get as much love anymore, unfortunately. I think they were the dolls that filled the void before the mature mini/fashion size BJDs came along since they were a lot more mature than most dolls at the time in this size range.

I've always thought of the mini size as teenagers, so that's what mine are. I have a Tania, Tatiana, I, Isar and two Ryans. I got new versions of Tania, Tatiana, and I when Iplehouse discontinued the sculpts in 2016-2017, and I just got faceups for all of them within the past year:

Iple released a couple of boys while I was away from the hobby and I'm considering both of them. One to reshell one of my Ryans and the other to shell a pair of twin characters that I have, since I'm revisiting that storyline right now. I also still have Owen on my Want List... :D

    6. I think you are right. Even though there were mature minis around, most of them still had a body like a child with boobs stuck on (literally, when the demand for more mature bodies increased, many companies just started to offer an upper torso piece with bigger breasts). I have a kid delf who is exactly like that from about the same time the JID came on the market. Don't get me wrong, I still love her and humans sometimes goes through a stage like that before the rest of the body catches up, but with the JID there is no question, that is not a child's body and the small bust option does nothing to change it. Even the contemporary Unoa and the Lati Blue who were clearly not little kids bodies were a bit more slender and toned down, but the JID has curves!
That's what drew me to them in the first place.

I have a Tania who was my second full BJD and she is ancient, by BJD standards. She is heavily yellowed (she was already when I bought her second hand and she was only two years old then) because she is from those early days when companies were still figuring out ways to prevent it. But the funny thing is, that even though she is nothing like the White Skin she originally was, she is still beautiful and her color photographs surprisingly well. I've had people mistake her for Real Skin in pictures.

Mine represents older teens to young adults. Tania's face could pass for younger, especially on the new child proportioned body, but my other JID is a Boris and he could not pass for a child. He may be stylized and big eyed compared to a realistic human, but with that jaw and nose? No way! He even has a hint of a cleft chin. I do sometimes wish Iplehouse came out with new mature male JID, but there are so many other options out there now, it's not quite as impossible to find dolls that fit in with each other anymore.

    7. Such cute dolls, Quirked! And another Tania owner with you, Lillith :) That's so nice :) I hear you two about the size being what it is. In isolation, my Tanias pass as little girls, but when put with my mature SD dolls, they look a bit more mature than I'd have expected. I still make it work, but it's a little bit off. I've seen smaller Iplehouse dolls, and while the height might be what I'm looking for, the proportions (in things other than curves, in any case) would be a bit too young.

I remember when Iplehouse started offering more mature hands for the JID. I don't know if that was before, after, or at about the same time as the FID's debut, but it was a stopgap for making a JID appear more mature. Even with a larger bust, the regular hands still look like kids' hands. The regular hands are part of what adds to the little girl look for me. Of course, then we got the FID, and that became the mature 1/4 option. It's funny because I don't consider my JIDs 1/4. I consider them 1/3 children.

I don't even think about the curves of the JID body. I don't like looking at my girls that closely when they don't have clothes on :sweat I would've figured any shape was kind of like how Barbie dolls are shaped to make clothes look good. Now, my mature SD Iplehouse dolls, I admire their curves, but my little girls are my little girls :aangel:

I see what everyone means with other head sculpts, though. Tania seems to be one of the youngest. Other heads don't come across as correct for my universe to me. I've seen, I believe she was Alice, and she seemed okay for my universe, but that's it.

It is really cool what people can do from doll to doll with JID. My Tania met another Tania a bunch of years ago, and this Tania was so wildly different!

    8. @Gamma Ray I think the fact that you can make these dolls represent so wildly different things, despite the fact that they are literally cast in the same mold is the coolest thing! That photo shows it perfectly.
And Tania is one of those very versatile sculpts that can look so very different depending on styling.

I replaced the old hands of my Tania with the new ones some years ago. The old hands looked off next to my other dolls, mostly because I so often pose her with a Lati Shaina who happens to have incredibly slender and detailed hands, so it was two extreme ends of the spectrum. And even more so because they didn't seem to quite fit the over all look of the body. I see what you mean about them looking young, I never thought about it in those terms.

The golden age for the mature heads was before the FID, after those were released the JID line got less and less attention and the few heads that were released tended to be on the childish side. Still pretty dolls, but not my thing. And they came out with the new child-proportioned body (basicly a KID body, sized up to JID height) and I lost interest, so I'm not up to date on their current direction.

    9. @Gamma Ray - Thank you! :)

@Lillith - JIDs are also pretty substantial when compared to the other mature-ish minis like Unoa, Minifee, Narae. My Minifees look so small next to them. They're honestly like short-legged SDs to me lol. Putting my Tatiana (who is supposed to be 16-18 in this form) next to her EID father is always hilarious. :whee:

I suppose a lack of wardrobe options can also push people away from JIDs, especially if they don't sew (and have no interest in learning or can't). Iplehouse has a few options, but perhaps what's offered isn't the style that someone who is considering a JID would be interested in. And the old "What Fits?" threads are probably outdated by now, and DoA isn't as active as it used to be. These particular dolls are what pushed me to sew more and learn how to draft my own patterns, since most of the clothing offered by Iplehouse at the time didn't suit my tastes. Now my dolls having a limited wardrobe is all my own fault!

And on the topic of the mature hands? Those fingers are sharp and I had a time putting that sweater on my Tatiana lol. All the more reason for me to get/make some dressing paddles!

    10. I'm glad you liked the pic of the two different Tanias! It really goes to show how the individual owners can make their dolls their own and how versatile the sculpts are!

Yeah, the "standard" as I'll call them hands really, really struck me as being younger. I must not have been the only one since the more mature hands came out later. I couldn't see my little girls with the mature hands :sweat I actually could stand to have the more mature SD sculpts to have hands that are a bit more on the slender side, but that's another story for a different subforum.

The newer JID body is also something I never got into, but I found it interesting. It being a bit more slender, it could have benefits for fitment of clothes. The older JID body is a bit large. I don't think I'd make the change now even if age-related color matching wouldn't be an issue. If the KID was maybe 5cm taller and was available back when I got my first Tania, I might've gotten a KID, but I just think the current KID is a bit too young for what I was going for with my first Tania and the second one I got later.

    11. You're welcome!

Yeah, the older JID body size being substantial. I'm lucky that I got a lot of clothes that fit well over the years. In my mind, since my girls have the smallest bust (in my universe, no breasts, totally pre-puberty), it's an artistic choice that comes with clothing limitations. I always joke saying that they have big ribcages

It is awesome that you make your own clothes. Iplehouse dolls in general seem to have their own special categories of sizes and proportions. I know on the more mature SD end, SartoriaJ clothes can be a good fit, but life ain't easy being an Iplehouse owner sometimes.

Oh gosh, mature hands, childlike hands, stubby fingers, slender fingers, whatever. I dread sleeves. Sometimes I disassemble the hands from the arm just to put the arms through the sleeves... up the sleeves in pieces  At least that's one thing BJDs have over more conventional dolls.

    12. About getting hands through sleeves, I just put something over them and shove them through.
A bit of paper or fabric works, but someone in the crochet thread suggested cutting the fingers from those thin cotton gloves sold with cleaning supplies and that's really cleaver.

    13. I forgot to share when Kiran got his updated face up! Lady Maeve added a bit of realism to his Iplehouse face up, I got him some polos via Doll Peddlar, and a custom-color athletic set (hoodie, pants, and shorts) from KhalonDolls on Etsy (who specifically makes JID stuff!).

    14. I still love my JIDs, although they don't get photographed quite as often since the fashion sized dolls arrived on the scene. For the longest time my JIDs were the adults in my msd world. It was also nice that they worked really well scale-wise with the KIDs and BIDs.
This is a shot of most of my JIDs getting ready to attend a wedding....

    15. Lillith, I've found that to help some in the fashion doll world where you can't always remove the hands, but sometimes things don't always slip through in one piece. Still, it helps some, and you can always try again. That's interesting about using the fingers from gloves for BJDs. I hadn't thought about that. The fingers would be long enough that you'd be able to keep the entire arm enclosed while pushing the hand and arm through the sleeve. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks!

dm_sof, your Kiran is so cool! And thanks for letting us know about KhalonDolls! That's such a good find!

MB Lilac, your photos are always so wonderful :daisy

I love my dolly daughters so much :aheartbea

    16. I love how thick and robust the Jid body is. It was perfect for making a Thorin Oakenshield doll with a spare hyper-realistic 70cm head, the proportions were perfect. The wide shoulders REALLY made it work.

    17. @Gamma Ray - Your Tanias look so sweet together. :D

@Lillith - using the finger from a glove is a fantastic idea! I'm starting to get into crocheting more than just hats for my dolls, and I'm working up the courage to make my first sweater. Though for one of my larger Iple girls, I once used some empty bobbins from my sewing machine as makeshift dressing paddles when I was trying on a denim dress with slim sleeves...

Right now I have ~this~ running in all available sizes on my 3D printer, so I have them available next time I have to battle with some sleeves in any size. :3nodding:

@dm_sof - Kiran looks great! I love the Daniel sculpt. And that's great info about clothing for the boys (and girls)!

@MB Lilac - photos of your dolls are always a treat to see. Everything is always so stunning; from the dolls to the outfits to the scenery :aheartbea

EDIT TO ADD: I've been inspired to get out my boys. :D My other Ryan is out of sorts right now, but this guy is good to hang out:
