1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is BJD really just for adults? And adults, what do you think of kids who like them?

Aug 17, 2006

    1. The hobby is not for adults only... but I think there is a limit...

Like for everything else, some kids should not have them.... and some could...

It makes me think of Manga.... before it was so popularized, most of those who read them were those who found them.... and after that, they were taken for kids book even though some are completely not for children... and now they show them as kids show even though some have a lot of sex, violence and whatever....

BJDs will surly be the same.... first it will be adults and then it will go lower and lower and one day it will be just as popular as any popular thing XD

The only thing that really bothers me about this is the maturity of those who collect..... I dont mind if a kid likes them and collects them... but are they mature enough ???
Or will they stop liking them the moment they arrive in the adolescent craze ??

    2. My point of view is if you're old enough to take care of the doll, you're old enough to have it. Yes, that goes for kids, too. I personally don't know any kids that are good enough to take care of a BJD, but I WAS one of those kids when I was younger. There has to be another kid somewhere who can understand the value of an object and care for it. If I were to ever (notforaverylongtime) have a kid of my own and felt that they were good enough, I would buy them a tiny or MSD no problem.

If you know how to care for the doll and will love the doll, then why not own the doll? And if you're into sewing and all that other stuff, more power to you! You don't know how many 13 year olds are out there wasting their life doing nothing but watching the TV screen and not thinking about the future... at least you will have a usable skill and a hobby! Hobbies are good things! *nodnod!*

    3. :thumbup :cheer Well said my friend! ^^

    4. Yet another in agreement with the above statement. I was one of those children too. In fact, I've had expensive and delicate dolls since I was about 5, just gave one of them in nearly new condition to a friend. In my opinion 13 year olds should be old enough to understand value and take care of their things, it's a pity that more aren't that mature. Those that have managed to scrape the funds and time together for something you care about are just ahead of the curve right now.

    5. i think people feels like this is because this hobby is basic on many money.. sometimes this hobby force me to make handcraft since i am not a rich person. and i am having so much fun with those DIY things XD

    6. I just purchased a BJD for my 9 year old from DDE. She is too young to be on board but she sits with me as we read and look at photos. She used her birthday money from her grandmas and aunts to buy the doll (I exchanged $$ for some gift cards she had received so she would have enough). We both got interested at the same time and we have so much fun researching which doll she should get and deciding on wigs etc. I am sure we'll continue to have fun with finding/making clothes for her doll and probably finding a friend or two! We purchased a relatively inexpensive BJD to start with but believe it will not be the only one! I think mom needs her own doll! I think this is a wonderful hobby and I am thrilled she is interested.

    7. There is the money factor, I think, that makes this primarily an adult hobby - but, if a child puts allowance towards it (maybe even if it's matched by parents) or earns it through chores, good grades, or some other responsible deal not only does it allow a child to learn about saving money for something they really enjoy (rather than gimmy this, that, and the other now now now) and when the doll does arrive, taking good care of it teachs the child the value of something and responsibility before the household is saddled with another living pet that the child loses interest in.

    8. Bjds are for everyone ^^ I'm a young person and I have 4 bjds ^^ (Volks DD-Volks SD-Pipos-Blue Blood Silver) lol :) I saved up for all of them ^^

    9. well, i'm two years younger than you and currently have two dolls -- an MSD and a tiny -- and am saving for a third. xD
i think it's fine for youger kids to have dolls, though i wouldn't trust anyone under thirteen or so with something this expensive. . . and i didn't get mine through my parents buying them, i've saved up for them myself. so, if an early teen is responsible enough, and will actually use the doll, i say, it's cool.:)

    10. I beleive it said because maybe the cost of things? But its not true! I mean, more than half of DOA's Kitty's have big SD dolls, those really expensive kind and many of them, so no. If you got the money, love and care to do it. Get it.

    11. It just depends on how the child is raised, not really the age.

    12. I believe they're for everyone, as long as whoever owns a BJD understands it's value and takes care of it properly and are fairly mature.

It may be an expensive hobby but it's not impossible~

    13. I agree that it's an important mix of maturity and money. I have to work very hard to save up money for my dolls, and my mom wants to know what I'm buying. I'm not too young now (17) but I remember being very embaressed showing my mom how much I was paying for a single doll. I think that actually stopped me from buying one earlier more than the money itself; when you're in the young teen stage, it can be hard to be the "one still playing with dolls"

    14. I'm sixteen and have been interested in these dolls since I was twelve :) (My mother took one look and said "I am NOT getting you a 400$ doll with a *cough cough* young lady!!) But after I got my job, I bought Friday, my MSD girl. I'm now saving for a boy SD sixed doll (Well.. I have enough money but don't want to spend it XD) I think that the hobby is really for whomever it appeals to. My little sister got a Bobobie Nissa this month, she's only eight.

    15. I got into this hobby at a young age, but i only got my first bjd when i was fourteen, now a year later, i'm waiting on my fourth to arrive. I don't think that it has to be an adult hobby, if you're willing to take the time and patience to get into dolls then you should be respected as a member of the community. ^^

    16. I just started collecting BJDs not too long ago, July should be my 1st anniversary. I own one so far but I plan to buy at least 18 XD I'm 13 but I'll be 14 in July. I don't think that BJDs are only for "adults only" and I don't think BJDs are only for girls. There are lots of boys on here that own BJDs.

    17. my little sis whoes turning 12 in august if getting her first bjd(of course she was influenced by me) but for her age shes pretty mature and responsible.

    18. I'm fourteen, and I'm already tight with a group of adults who helped engross me in the hobby ^^; As far as I know, they've never seen me as inferior because I'm younger. I may not have a doll, but I plan to get one before I'm a legal adult. I think if you've got a nine year old whose responsible and loves BJDs, and you think you can trust them with having and taking care of one, (it's no different than having a pet, really,) then by all means get them into the hobby!

    19. i know a 11 year old who comes over to see my doll. shellbe getting the same one as me plus 2 more since her parents are like, uber rich. i r jealous!

    20. When I was a girl I used to collect stamps and coins. I know it's not the same, but I had to save for the rare and expensive ones, clean them, restore them... I think it's great when children have a hobby and they spend their time and money in something that is worth, that is much better than buying candies, don't you think?
Problem with bjds is that they are really expensive, so it's easier for adults to collect them.
