Is it boring to have only one brand of dolls?

Nov 3, 2014

    1. I don't think it's boring. If you like dolls of one company I think it's cool to have them. Also, if they're all from same company you wouldn't probably have matching problems 8D

      So yeah, why not?

    2. not boring at all, depends on what you like, really...

    3. About half my dolls come from different companies, however because my preference for a certain type of aesthetic is so strong, I've been told that their sculpts look extremely similar to my dolls that are all from the same company anyhow. As it is, I now have plans for three more dolls to complete my collection, and they're all from the same company, of which I already own three dolls as well. To some folks they might all look the same, and that's cool, but for me, they compliment each other, fit together style wise and all look the way I like my dolls to look. That being said, I dislike purchasing the same bodies over and over again, so that I limit myself to one per company, unless it is a hybrid in some way (such as my two DOCs, yet one has Angelheim hooves instead of regular feet).

    4. I don't neccessarily think it's boring to have dolls from one brand only. BUT! in my experience different brands bring out different things in yourself, so in that aspect I'd encourage you to try out different brands.

If you like a certain aesthetic they'll most likely have something in a similar style that you might like too. I really like Fairyland dolls and I keep being drawn to them. I have two Pukifee, two Minifee and two Littlefee and that's certainly no coincidence :).

However! This year I've gotten some dolls from other companies including Dollstown and Maskcat. They're so different from my Fairyland dolls and tickle my creative spirits in different ways. I love it, it's refreshing. My Maskcat tiny can share clothes with Blythe dolls, which gives many sewing opportunities since there are many, many Blythe patterns available.
My Dollstown girl is very beautiful and more realistic, she brings out different drives in me. She's the first doll I have the courage to customise and I'm not scared to mod her or practice face-ups on her. I tried this with my fairyland dolls too, but for some reason I couldn't do these things with them.

I really like this variety in my collection and I'm always very interested to see what new aspect I will discover when I find a new brand :)!

    5. Not boring. If a company has a style you're drawn to ... Why not?

I have a variety of companies (DIM, Fairyland, Limhwa, Volks, DollZone, SoulDoll, and soon to be ImplDoll, Doll Legend and DikaDoll). I loved the faces DIM originally made and have two dolls from them. However, my kids are from various backgrounds (different families, if you will), so it works to have them look different stylistically.

    6. I don't think it's boring, but I may be biased since most of my dolls come from one company. I just have a strong preference for a certain aesthetic style and they just fit everything I'm looking for.

    7. I have dolls from only 2 companies so far. I do not think it would be boring to have just one maker. I do find it easier to use the IP site than many others and I am now familiar with their sizes. So for me IP is still my first go to site/maker.

    8. I'm usually going for a very specific look and some companies do it better than the others. Also, aesthetic-wise, some companies have similar sculpts which fits my personal taste because I'm trying to shell a whole family and they have to look alike. On another hand, I'm trying to save on clothes and stuff. If I just stick with the same company dolls, I don't have to worry about clothes that may be short by a centimeter or so.

    9. I don't think so. I mean just look at all the owner pictures of the same sculpt and how different the same doll looks. I would think it would be the same with dolls from the same brand. All of mine are from the same two companies, so far anyways.

    10. They have so many different dolls, and different styles that I like maybe three or four different companies. I have some companies I would never buy from though. At first though I thought I would only buy from Luts. That idea didn't work out since I bought from Iplehouse a few months later. XD

    11. I have my list of Favourite brands I don't think its boring even though I started out only wanting fairyland dolls and tinies only, I moved on to appreciate a variety of doll companies and sizes. I prefer mature mad and yosd most. But love the puki family of dolls. I also now want to save for dollzone dolls and want to buy some doll chateau heads. I also like resin soul and sugarable for their thinner "mature" yosd dolls since I love having "control" over my dolls. There are so many beautiful dolls out there. BJD is like pizza, so many topping. Why only one?
Well some people really love pepperoni and there's nothing wrong with that.

    12. I noticed some companies have a style to their dolls that can make them unique from another company. I think it's because of the artist. I wouldn't be surprised if some people just buy all of their dolls from one company. That can also help when shelling a character because they would most likely appear to be from the same world.

    13. I do the same as you, I only buy dolls from iplehouse, will never get bored with them, there are a lot of dolls there and different choices from skin tone, age, size and even fantasy dolls, I love the quality of their resin, and will only consider buying from another company if I finished having all the dolls I want from them :D

    14. Even though I am a Volks fan, I own dolls (and parts) of 10 different companies. The main reason is that I don't want any of my doll to have the same body and so I have to hybridize.

Boring or not; it only matters what you think. It is your collection, not anyone else's. If you are happy with your dolls, then they aren't boring.

    15. Of my 6 dolls, 4 are from Resinsoul (1 SD, 2 MSDs, 1 Yo), one is a Minifee and one is an Angel of Dream MSD. The majority of my collection is probably going to end up being Resinsoul because of the endless variety of head/body swap-ability and resin colours choices! I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with the same sculpt in different colours.

I have other companies on my wishlist, but I feel so spoiled by Resinsoul's pricing that I find it hard to spend money on the more expensive companies.

I think I'd be fine just owning dolls from one company. I don't think it'd be boring, because I'm lucky enough to have a relatively large local meetup group where I can see other companies and see what the bodies are like.

    16. I dont think is boring, I find myself buying from the same companies simply because I keep getting attracted to them, as long as the love is there it won't matter.

    17. Yes! To me, it would be very boring to have all my dolls from the same company.

I never used to feel this way, when all my dolls were from the same company and I thought I'd never get a different one. Then, I finally got a doll from a different company and it was so much better and nicer, and I wondered why I'd been so stuck on that first company for so long.

      Currently, I have dolls from:
      Dollmore
      IMPL
      Souldoll
      Migidoll
      Limhwa
      IslandDoll
      Ringdoll
      Resinsoul
      Bobobie
      Serendipity
      Doll-Leaves
      Lumedoll

I've also had a doll from Iplehouse (which I did not like at all), and I have some dolls that are OT for Den of Angels.

    18. Depends on the company.
Will NEVER get tired of SOOM!

    19. Iplehouse does have a very realistic style and I can see how someone could just be attracted to that. It's your collection and your happiness. Don't let outside pressure make you think you need dolls you don't want.

For me, I like dolls from different companies simply because I like the way they all look together. My dolls don't have set characters, they're always changing and I like it that way.

    20. I've got a lot of dolls and have been into bjds for over a decade... I think I have dolls from 37 different makers.

BUT, I do NOT think it's boring to have dolls from only one company. I think owners can buy what they like and if they like the style of one company then that's the best for them. Plus--who cares what other people think??? They are YOUR dolls, not someone else's dolls, so what they buy is their business and not something you should pay attention to... (unless you are into peer pressure, then, hey, buy what you want, right? It's all good).

Although I have dolls from lots of companies, I DO have some companies I tend to favor. I have 10 Soom dolls, 6 CP/Luts dolls, 4 Dearmine and 4 Iplehouse dolls. If you look at these companies, the styles are pretty different! But different or the same, I buy what I like and don't find it boring at all whether they are the same company or not. :D
