1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is it boring to have only one brand of dolls?

Nov 3, 2014

    1. You know, Tez, these questions are actually more along the lines of 'is it boring for YOU' - so obviously for you it is not. For others it is. These are discussions so that people can interact socially on a subject (BJD) that interests them. I find other peoples' rationale about their collections fascinating.

    2. I have 3 different dolls from 3 different companies (Luts, Soom, and Iplehouse). while I love all 3 of my dolls, I've decided any future dolls will be coming from Iplehouse. I love Iplehouse's body sculpt while the joints on the other two just feel awkward.

    3. 90% of my doll wishlist is Doll Chateau but I just couldn't resist adding Lillycat's Constantine *-* She's so unusual. I also want a Doll Leaves Wish; I think it's difficult to stop wanting more BJDs all together, let alone just with the companies.

    4. I have 4 dolls and all from different companies. My dolls are from Mystic Kids, Iplehouse, Fairyland and Withdoll. I love them all! And I just placed on order for Bimong. So I like to have dolls from different companies. It is nice to compare them and they all have their own lovely features and strenghts. But I have decided that any future dolls will be coming from those same companies. If the doll is a boy then Ipplehouse and if it is a girl then Fairyland, Bimong or Withdoll.

    5. I don't think so. :)
Also because 2 idetical dolls can look so different with just eyes, wigs and faceups being different.

    6. Haha I certainly think it is awesome to have dolls from only one company - just as awesome as having a collection of various companies' dolls. ^^

I love looking at different companies' dolls, but in the end, when I buy, I always go back to Peak's Woods. They just hit my aesthetic sense spot on, and I like that they look like they were made by the same artist (which they are) :)
I'm planning on adding a Ringdoll man to my crew at some point, but that will only be when PW stops releasing new awesome SDs for a while XD' My wallet needs a break - I've already bought 3 SDs and 3 YOs in the past year...all from Peak's Woods :3

I understand that a lot of people like having dolls from different companies - I also had that some years back - but now I'm just too invested in PW to stop buying from them...it's a huge crush really :D

    7. Not really, it isn't boring at all ! Most of my dolls are from the same company ^-^

    8. I like my dolls to have different bodies and heights, so I very rarely buy from the same company more than once (the only exception so far is LoongSoul...I had bought a human girl, a lion girl and a mermaid girl, so they were still all quite different). I suppose I do find it a little boring.

That said, there are a few companies that I may just have to buy than one from (I'm sure I will be getting more Dollfie Dreams, for example). And there is a member here who has a whole fleet of Supia Doll girls, and those photos are anything but boring...that company has so many unique and gorgeous sculpts.

    9. I don't think it's boring as a certain company could be the exact esthetics you want for your collection and build your bjd family from there. Likewise you could want the diversity and collect from several companies. So it's entirely personal preference.

    10. Not if you really like one BJD Company's Dolls. I love Volks, but I've been eyeing a doll from Iplehouse, because she looks like she fell out of a Novel !

    11. Personally, yes. I would get bored having the same company doll since most of them are similar.
In my opinion, I think 3 dolls from one company is enough unless you are aiming to buy them all or simply because you love them so much.

After all, it is your own preference and you should never let another person's opinion get in your way of buying a BJD that you love :)

    12. I think it is, but thats just me! Most companies follow a sculpting pattern and you can tell where the head it from most of the time just by looking at it. My characters are all diverse and different so thats why I like different companies! Plus having the same body for every doll would be uneventful.

    13. I think it was fun at first for me to collect one brand ( FL) that I knew I loved....but after awhile, I wanted to experiment with other companies...to check out their resin, fu's, etc. The bad thing in this hobby is for the most part, u must buy ( with no returns ) to actually see the doll. And so much money!! So kind of becomes a gambling exercise...like my Grandmother used to say " buying a pig in a poke"....lol..a pig in a crate that u could not check out. I have been doing this..as I am so addicted..sigh...and for the most part, I have not been disappointed..maybe 2x in about 30+ purchases. So I say..go for something different if ur inclined. I am just praying for another Dollism like show. I will NOT miss this time :)

    14. I wouldn't dream of owning only one brand, not with all the beautiful options out there. My collection is varied (as is my wishlist) and I personally like it that way. 75% of the time if I buy a doll from a brand I already own it's because I want the dolls to look related --- cousins, siblings, etc.

    15. Like it's been said, I also think it's a matter of personal preference, and I do think someone can fall in love with one company's style so much that they end up buying (almost) only from that one company. I myself recently got a crush on so many Supia dolls that if I listened to my impulse only, I'd be buying only them for now. However, a big part of the hobby (for me) would be the ''exploring'' part. And so I really want to experiment with different bodies, sizes and sculpts. And although I've got a great experience with the first company I ordered from, I wouldn'T want to get all my dolls from them and the next one won't be.

    16. No. If there's only one company a person likes, then it's not boring. Right now, I love FL. But if I come across another company I like, I would be happy to purchase from them.

    17. I have dolls from 3 different companies. That being said, I do tend to keep ordering from the same company. I like the quality. I like the sculpts. Ive been very happy with my dolls. If I found one somewhere else that I wanted, I would buy it though. I don't get bored having many dolls from one company. Especially because they can trade clothes and wigs easily!

    18. Nah i wouldnt say it's boring to have dolls from the same company. If you like the dolls from Iplehouse and only have collecting dolls from them, you just might like the style of the dolls, the bodies & joints and the company over all ect. I myself like Iplehouse but i personally have never bought from them before, i think they have very beautiful dolls but i only own one doll at the moment and it's a Minifee from Fairyland. I do save up to get two more dolls from FL and one boy from Iplehouse and that will count that i will have three dolls from the same company.

As long you create something different to the dolls it wouldnt be boring to have dolls from the same company!
That's really up to you and your taste!:)

    19. I personally buy from different brands, but I don't see the problem if all the dolls you like happen to be from the same brand. It's not boring, it's just your personal taste ^^

    20. Companies normally have set style for their molds which you are able to distinguish them by.
There are some elements which certain people may find enchanting and therefore they are more prone to sticking to one company. I can understand it.
For me i do find that i Prefer molds of certain companies more than others, but then, there are exceptions of course and i don't shop solely by maker.
