Is it "ok" to buy more than 1 ltd of a certain type of doll?

Dec 2, 2007

    1. :( But putting things on the shelf and looking at them is fun to me.(I'm serious, I'm more of a collector)Though I like to make them fight my dunnies.

    2. I don't agree with this at all. It's not anybody's responsibility to make sure that other people have the doll they want. If you have more than one of a rare doll, then good for you. People who have more than 1 limited get them either by good luck, or they paid a lot of money for them. And honestly, if someone wants a really rare doll, then they have to accept that they need to either be lucky or shell out the bucks.

Some people collect because the doll is pretty and they like it. And even if they buy it just to complete a collection, what's wrong with that? You may not agree with those reasons, but that has nothing to do with how "worthy" a person is to own a doll.

In the quote you mention Helene's and SDink's dolls being very beautiful... so if they're pretty and you take nice pictures of them it's okay to have more than one? But if not, then you're greedy? Why should someone need to validate their reasons for owning the dolls by proving that they really do "love them" in order to escape being labeled a hoarder, or greedy?

And personally, I think "deserving" a doll is a load of horse pucky anyway. Nobody deserves a doll. It's been said over and over again, these are luxury items and nobody needs them, nobody deserves them. You deserve the things you need to live(food, shelter, human rights, etc), not a multi-hundred dollar resin doll. If a person didn't win a limited in the lottery and someone who already has one got a second, that is NOT the winner's fault. That's just luck of the draw. Nobody is to blame for the person not winning the doll.

Now, that said: just as nobody can stop a person from owning more than one of a limited, nobody can stop others from disliking that they have more than one. They've got every right to be upset. But for the love of resin, please don't ostracize or badmouth people for it. Have a little tact! Nobody likes a sore loser. ;P

    3. As long as it right for you and you didn't steal them but bought by yourself it is fine. If to be truly, I don't understand all this noise about LE dolls. Someone can buy 10 of them, someone cannot and someone don't want to.

    4. As one who will be buying 2 of the same mold I say if you want it go for it. Only makes if down the road the twin idea so of boring your able to sell one to some lucky person who might be willing to share idea he has a twin brother still out there. I have seen "twins" here and like me most have a different face up or in my case one will be tan skin and other is going to be NS so same yet different. If you wnat twins, then get twins. Good Luck, MK

    5. I agree with this. People seem to place a lot of emotional value on these dolls, so they seem to equate it with adopting a pet... "It should go to the most loving home". While I personally see the value in that sentiment and I would like any object to be in a place where it will get the most use... as a whole my practical side tends to win out. In the end they are just inanimate objects, and luxury objects at that. If there was a limited run of... oh, designer lamps, would there be such a fuss if someone wanted to decorate their home with many of them? Would the argument "the person who loves them most should own the lamps" even come up?

While I may be a bit jealous if I want a particular limited sculpt and someone else has two of them, I'm not going to take it out on them or feel like they don't "deserve" to have two. They're not in any way obligated to make sure I get the doll I want. They won out, I lost. Tough cookies for me, but that's the way the free market works. Maybe they were faster at ordering, maybe they ponied up and paid the inflated secondhand prices that I couldn't afford. There's a sense of entitlement that seems to pop up in this hobby pretty often... "I deserve to have that doll". I find it interesting because that's something that doesn't always come up in other hobbies.

As for the scalping issue... I personally look down upon the practice, but that doesn't mean I think it's "wrong" in the grander scale of things. Yeah, it's kind of a crummy thing to do, but once again that's just kind of how the free market works. If people weren't willing to pay scalpers' prices, there would be no scalping. It's just a fact of life in any hobby with items that are limited. I understand that's the way it is, and if I'm unlucky enough not to win the lottery/buy one before they run out, I understand that I will have to pay an inflated market value.

    6. That's a point^^
I totally agree with you here.
If you want to have two of them because you "need" them for youc concept, buy them.
Of coruse, you might buy the doll someone really wants to have, but you also might buy the doll someone would sell two month later for a horrible price ;)

    7. yeah sure, I mean it's your money, you should decide if you want 2 of the same ltd doll.
I don't understand people that get angry if someone buys 2 of the same ltd doll.
Either you are fast enough to buy one of the dolls or not.
I mean, you won't die if you miss out on an ltd doll. >_<

    8. I think if you have the money and want multiple LE dolls, go for it. I really don't get why there are so many people against "scalping". People do it all the time with concert tickets et cetera. The fact is there'a a market for it. And while I could jump up on my high horse and say :x it's morally wrong to buy a doll (or whatever) with the intention of selling it at a later date for profit... if my dream doll was a LE and the only way I could get it was to buy it from a scalper at an inflated price, and I had the money, I'd buy it in a heart beat. I've bought concert tickets from scalpers and IMO this is really no different. So does that make me morally corrupt, because I and people like me create a demand for secondary market "scalped" items? Maybe. But I'd rather be evil and have my dream doll that nice and go without! Bwahahahah!:mwahaha

    9. To be simple, perhaps overly so, I don't see a huge problem with having more than one of a doll if having them makes the owner happy.
Even if the dolls are hard to get, would having two rare dolls of the same mold be any worse or better than having two rare dolls of a different mold? Perhaps for someone looking to get one of those dolls, but otherwise I don't think so.

I know I plan on getting an Elf Ducan, and I already own a Homme Ducan. Not the same, but it's close. [I also have dreams of getting the Black Ducan, but I doubt that will happen...]

    10. I had twins (bjds!) and even though the were not limited, and then they had differente face ups even I got bored of them very quickly.

But if you feel you love love love a dolls sculpt then I would say get it . Of course not to resell at a higher price later that would be wrong...

    11. well...Lucky for any of those out there, the twin i want isn't a limited edition at all, muhahaha, anywho, if you want it, go for it, it the rule of nature, first come, first serve right?

    12. I don't know if my opinion really applies since you're asking about "limited" dolls and I don't really have any, but.. I'm going to throw it out there anyway! ;8D

I don't have multiple "limited" dolls, but I am currently the proud owner of a DollGa NOELLA and am waiting for her twin, NOELLA Sleeping, to arrive. I originally saw these two dolls as the twin set on DollGa's site, but unfortunately they weren't selling them together anymore. I managed to find and purchase the open-eyed version of the Noella from a DoA member just a couple of months or so ago, and I thought I would be satisfied with that. But I just couldn't stop thinking about the other twin with the sleeping head!

After much debate, I was still having a hard time deciding if I should buy the NOELLA Sleeping. I was really struggling with the concept of basically buying the same doll twice, with the only difference being open or closed eyes. But the more I thought about it, and the more I looked at the DollGa site, the more I realized that these girls are twins, are sisters, and have completely different personalities. Looking at the photos of them together, they seem like they would be very close and they look almost identical. But separated, I could kind of see two distinctly different styles, and that's ultimately what led me to purchase the other half of the twin set.

If you love the sculpt and the mold, then who really cares how many you have! This hobby is all about doing what makes you happy, and if ten of the same mold is what you want, then go for it, "limited" or not.

Just because they are the same mold does not make them the same doll! :)

    13. I don't see how it's a problem. If you can afford it and you're quick off the mark then you should go for it. It's not your fault if the doll you want two of is only coming out in a half dozen copies now is it?
People who get whiney about it should go take it up with the companies who insist on only making such limited numbers of some dolls. Obviously some the perks to the company are the extra money they can make from those dolls, and the extra exposure for their site/company as a whole as people crowd around to see what the new limited edition doll is. In the end it's largely business, and if you're business is getting a pair of identical dolls from them, then you should go ahead.

    14. Personally I'm planning for twin Musedoll Re-Che's because A) I love the mold B) I want one in tan ^^
So my boys will be separate skin tones, but also twins :D
It just appeals to me, and even though Re-Che is limited in tan (really limited T~T) I'd still get him in a second- he truly would be loved so I don't see any reason why not! (Other than my wallet trying to strangle me later....)

    15. Don't some dealers limit to 1 anyway? I realize this doesn't prevent your friend and your mom from popping online (in line, whichever) to buy one too, but at least it does something. There's not really much else that can be done.

I do think it is best for there to be a policy of one doll per person in the case of limiteds. In the interest of fairness. At the very least it makes it more difficult for scalpers to get their hands on things. If you do want "twins" or something, I kind of feel "too bad so sad" about it--you can buy it on the second market if you want another one. It may seem like dolly socialism, but I feel like at least initially there should be efforts to make sure that as many people who want the doll can get one.

Standards--knock yourself out. Buy 12. I'm sure the company doesn't mind.

    16. The same question Kiri_Akurei poses: Would it be different if someone made twins out of 2 different limiteds? One limited from a run of X number of dolls and one limited from a run of X-1. The numbers would be the same as buying two from the same type.

"Omg! That person has two limiteds! So unfair!" sounds a bit silly. That person had the money to buy those limiteds. Maybe that person is also a click war master or just lucky. In case with peole owning multiple Bermans as mentioned earlier, those Bermans are usually from different editions and thus differ in skin colour and head (SA or normal). Even if someone has two dolls from the same release, it's silly to say they have to sell one otherwise it isn't fair. I agree with TheFontBandit, people wouldn't even ask themselves if it's fair to own two limited lamps or if they should feel guilty for having two limited lamps.
You forked out the money. Enjoy your lamps. Enjoy your dolls.
If someone is really going to be all heartbroken over not being able to buy a certain limited doll, they need a reality check. I'm sad I missed out on certain limiteds, but I'm healthy, I have a job, and I have other dolls that are very pretty and that are fun to play with.

Would you feel guilty if you had a one-off? Would someone else be happy if they had that particular one of a kind doll? Probably, but you have that doll so be happy you have that doll. "It wouldn't be fair to keep it, because someone else might want it." sounds silly, doesn't it? You want that doll too.
If it really bothers you, take tons of pictures and share them with other people. That way others can enjoy your limited doll too in a certain way.

    17. I think it's absolutely fine. People can buy what they want. If they happen to be multiples, so be it...

    18. I don't see any issue with some one owning two of the same limited. If they buy two, then whoo hoo they have two dolls. I don't really see the point in saying "it's not fair" to someone owning multiple of any LE's. Those are the same people saying "it's not fair" to people who just want an LE buying one. Sorry, but if you OH SO BADLY want an LE,, or would want one in the future? Keep 2000$ on you. If you want a certain one SOOOO bad, don't worry. It WILL pop up on the used market eventually. I really can't say I have an honest problem with it.

    19. It's only not okay if you get the dolls by illegal means or plan to use the dolls for illegal purposes... (Aka recasting the limiteds, etc etc)...

Otherwise, you got the money, you are fast enough to buy them, you earnt the dolls. I've long accepted that you can't have all the dolls you want...

    20. oh lord, just look at my siganture! I have multiples of several sculpts, and yes some of them are limited.

I do think that buying multiple limiteds just in order to sell them and make a profit is not cool at all
