1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is it "ok" to buy more than 1 ltd of a certain type of doll?

Dec 2, 2007

    1. I think it's perfectly okay to buy another limited mold. I have two elf Chiwoos and I love them with all my heart. I'd buy... forty, if I could. Unfortunately, I don't really like floating heads, so body buying has become my cryptonite. If you want twins, you should go for it if you have the cash.

    2. I like looking at pictures at the twin dolls, but I do not want to own two same type dolls.
First, I cannot afford two types, I would rather get different type doll.
I also think it makes them have less character.. If I was a doll, and the owner brough a doll same face like me I would be pissed, so I do not want to bring same type doll.. just my thought.

    3. I really couldn't care less how many of a limited doll someone has. Their money, their choice.

    4. If you have the money then whatever you do with it is your own problem.... I am sorry for those who think that it is not fair to own multiple of a LE doll but you don't have any what so ever right to tell others what they can do with their money.

I was having a chat with a friend who also like dolls and own a LE doll. And we made a comment about those who have enough money can buy multiple of one LE doll then resell it for higher price. Thinking about being sufficient in using your money, it is actually not a bad plan at all.

Again sorry to those that think it's wrong but they are using their money and you are suffering because you love the dolls too much. If you think it's wrong to buy dolls to resell that higher price then don't buy them from the reseller. They can only resell because they know that there will be people who are willing to buy at higher price. You can't have supply without the existence of demand.

      ^^

I don't even have spare money to do so but good luck to those who can because they will have whole lot of profit to buy more dolls ^^

    5. First come First serve. As they say. But it does leave a bad taste in my mouth if they buy 2 and sell one just for profits.

    6. The threads that ask "is it okay to.....?" always drive me nuts. Your money, your choice. As long as you aren't breaking the law, knock yourself out.

    7. I agree. It may not be fair that someone has the resources to buy several LE dolls at the time of their release (for the purpose of re-selling to make a profit), but so long as the company doesn't limit purchases to one per household, it's perfectly legit.

If someone has the cash to invest in something so tricky as dolls, that's their business.

    8. I don't really think it's anyone's decison but the owners about how many dolls they purchase. Yes it's a shame if someone wants one and misses out but if someone wants two they have just as much right as anyone to buy them.

    9. Yes, I'm never quite sure what they're getting at. Do they really mean "What do you think of . . . ?" or "I don't think this is OK, do YOU think it is OK to... ?" or "Would everybody be mad at me if I . . . ?" I guess in some cases the answer will come across pretty clearly, as in "Is it okay to copy this sculpt?" but usually it's some behavior that is just a matter of free choice.

On the whole subject of owning more than one limited doll: There isn't a single limited doll that I've ever seen that didn't come up on the market at some point in time. Even the editions of like 5 and 10 dolls have come up for resale. The Bermanns that are supposed to be the big "holy grail" (I don't see them that way, they're just a cool doll sculpt to me, but whatever) come on the market at a rate of 1 to 3 per month, it seems. If someone truly wanted one of these dolls, they could get one, or even if they wanted a particular one (like white skinned, SA instead of DO, etc.) there are chances to buy. When a particular doll comes up on the market time after time and someone keeps making the choice NOT to buy it because it's too expensive or whatever, and then complains that someone else has three of them, I don't see where they have any basis for the complaint. If they really wanted one they could have bit the bullet, paid the price and bought it. Most of the people who own two or three didn't get them all cheap.

    10. It'd be nice if people didn't buy two+ with the intent of only keeping one and selling the others, but there's really nothing you can do to stop them. Kudos to them if they just really love the mold and want more than one; you an always buy second-hand if you really want it that badly.

    11. I would love to get my hands on a second SDC Kurt head and a female SDC body to make my Kurt's sister, I think if you have the money and you want two+ of something, buy it. I think it is a bit shady to buy more of one thing just to sell it for huge prices later on, but that's on your conscience, not mine.

Also, DoA doesn't allow price policing either on the Marketplace or forcing companies to pull their prices in line with other companies like those Fair Prices for All people  This seems a bit like policing to me too, making others feel like the only people entitled to buy a doll are the people who would :aheartbeatwooly, twooly luv it:aheartbea. Someone who missed the chance to buy the doll might feel miffed that someone else has two or more of the sculpt they would die for, but it's not directly that person's fault that you missed out.

    12. Actually, in some cases people who do this are doing those who miss out the first time 'round a favour! When a run is limited in number, not so much, as there may be folks sitting there, finger poised over the order button, only to find that by the time the clock ticks over and they give it a push, someone(s) with the cash on hand to order three dolls (two of which are intended for sale on the secondhand market) has made it impossible for them to get the one they wanted.

But on the other hand, there are lots of companies these days with limited ordering periods (Soom is, of course, the big one right now, but Fairyland has done it too and I believe several other companies) and in that case, people who buy several dolls with the specific intent of re-selling them increase the chances that I'll be able to buy one down the road when I do have cash in hand. So I really don't resent re-sellers in that situation.

As far as people who keep multiples of a particular limited in their collection, I know they've put a lot of effort into bringing those dolls home and I believe that wanting multiples shows a lot of love for the sculpt. It turns my stomach when I hear about people harassing owners because they think the universe owes them a Woosoo or Bermann.

    13. i'm sure like everyone i'm envious when i see collectors with multiple gorgeous le dolls but i know if i had the ready cash i'd buy more too :)

    14. @Undermost salamander
You make a good point [:
I was referring to the limited number LEs, but it actually could do someone a favor in the case of the limited time ones.

    15. me personally, I go with those who say, if you have the money to do it, then do it. But me personally, if I did it myself... I would only buy dolls I want for myself, to keep. However, that said, if someone has the money to buy them, then buys one to keep and one to sell... what can you do? even if some find it distasteful... there's no rule against it. besides, like someone else said... there's a good chance that when the company sells out of the limited, those who missed it will have a chance to buy it again through someone who purchased one for the purpose of re-sale.

    16. Why do people bother asking these sort of questions when the BJD hobby has no legal policies and obligations regarding doll buying? Buy what you want, how much you want, and stop turning the hobby into a moral debate. There's enough of them already.

    17. If you don't like debating the hobby, why are you participating on a page for Dolly debates? ;)

    18. Well, then, here's a suggestion for a different, more debatable topic: should the companies allow people to buy more than one of a limited doll? In a lottery system, if someone enters for all of the dolls available and wins all of them, should they be allowed to buy all of them, because in that case it's not a matter of speed or having more money than anyone else, it's what the company allows to happen?

Is that any better of a topic?

    19. I don't mind people buying 2 or more of a limited if they are just going to resell it on the market. Especially if they are going to do a nice custom face-up and stuff like that. If they are going to buy 2 limiteds to love and keep, well I don't really see what the problem would be with that either. If that is what they want to do, then power too them.

Personally, I can't ever see myself ever buying the same mold doll more than once, even though I adore twins. I'd rather have a variety of molds to play around with then 2 of the exact same thing.

    20. If that is the only sculpt that appeals to you, then I don't see a problem having multiple dolls.
Heck, I know I've got a whole crew of dollshe's. They're the only male sculpt that's ever really appealed to me.
I'm not going to sell them off, to buy something I don't like as much, just to make someone else happy.

It's a collection. By the very term, it implies that there's more than one of them.
