Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Is it "ok" to buy more than 1 ltd of a certain type of doll?

Dec 2, 2007

    1. The only time I feel any sort of feelings about people owning more than one of a limited/rare doll is when I see owners who have 5 of the same limited/rare sculpt actively buying or snatching up what few of those dolls hit the market. And I wouldn't call my feelings resentful, just a bit jealous. The dolls that pop up that are rare/limited go for more money than I could swing, so if someone else can why stop them? (Even if they already have 8 of the same doll ;) )

    2. I'd like to go with the whole "Ce La Vie" idea and say people can do whatever they want...

But I can't just go and say that (even if it's true to some degree) because I, personally, can't get past that. I guess I'd be more inclined to feel passive if there was a relatively high number, like 50 or 100 around - but 10?

Do people really expect me to say people can do whatever they want when there are only 10 of something in the world?

There are lots of places that restrict the amount per customer, and I feel that when you have an extremely limited number of things (such as only 10), BJD companies should do that, too. I don't care if someone sells it secondhand, and somebody ends up with two, but I really think people should have a little more common sense, be fair, and let others have that second doll.

    3. As someone who loves twin dolls, I will of course say it's alright for someone to have more than one of a limited doll. I personally plan to get twin YoSDs, which all YoSDs are limiteds. The amount of the limit doesn't make any difference to me. If they are limited to only two, ten, fifty, a hundred, a thousand or what-have-you, doesn't matter to me. If the person can afford these limited dolls I believe it is their right to own them.

They have clearly earned it if they were willing to put in the time, effort and money to get it/them, just like with any doll. Specially if the limit of these dolls is ten or less, I'd imagine they could end up quite hard to find and very expensive. This person has just as much right to buy the item after hunting it down as anyone else, already having one means nothing. Just because you (general 'you') don't have one and want one doesn't make you any more deserving of it than the person who already has one, you'd be foolish to delude yourself into believing such a thing.

    4. I dont own any but i think its ok. Some may see it as greedy consdiering it's limited, but if you can afford and want two why not buy.
If someone bought lots in bulk to sell at a later date to make profit then thats a different story^^

    5. Call me maniacal, but I totally say 'hey, if you've got the money...' That said, there's a GORGEOUS doll that I'm madly in love with who is limited to 15, and if someone bought-say- five of her, I'd probably kill them. Still, in the bloodthirsty capitalistic society I live in, it's not anyone else's problem that you didn't have the money to buy your doll when someone had the money to buy 5. It's a double sided axe really. Unless you put said doll on layaway, you can't really argue with people who got there first, no matter how infuriated you are that you've got to pray for a basic release.

    6. Are they scalping? That's the only ethical issue I see here. I'm all for twins. I think they're really cool.

    7. I think it is okay to buy more than one limited of same doll. It is just that, would you mind that you'd be envied by some that wanted the same doll XD? Otherwise it's not wrong or anything.

    8. I honestly don't have a problem with an individual buying more than one of a sculpt, even if it is limited. That is of course only if s/he genuinely wanted the dolls, and did not purchase solely to sell at an inflated price.

    9. Not to sound like a parrot, but I pretty much believe what everyone else has had to say on the subject. If I could afford it, I'd have Volks Genji triplets and maybe a couple of pairs of Soom Sard twins for kicks! If a person falls in love with a sculpt, why shouldn't they be able to buy a couple of that particular sculpt if they want? Especially when you consider how different a sculpt can look just by changing a face-up, a pair of eyes or a wig...

    10. There's no use in getting your panties in a bunch over this. If you can't buy a limited, you can't buy it, it;s that simple.
The people that have 6 of the same limiteds don't owe anyone anything. That's what limited means, first come, first serve.
It's not as if these owners are throwing around money they don't have. They work hard for their money, so why can't they have what they can buy?

    11. If you can afford it, and you truly want it, it should be yours. I also love twins. Scalpers, on the other hand, are upsetting, but still legal, so what can you do?

    12. The only situation where I'd get annoyed about someone buying multiples of a limited is if they bought the majority of a small run when I had money in hand ready to buy one and got to the site ten minutes too late - I'd probably rage for ten minutes, then spend the money on something else  Honestly, it's not a concern of mine if people have multiples of any one limited - if they can afford it, why not?

    13. Sheesh, who exhumed this dinosaur of a non-argument? Consensus was achieved ages ago.

Yes, it's your money. Spend it however you wish. There is no Great Overlord telling you what to buy, how much to pay, or how many you can have. Most folks don't even give a flying rat's patootie if you put yourself in the poor house over this hobby. As for buying with the intention of scalping, go back and study economics. There isn't enough profit potential to warrant all the cash and time invested in procuring the dolls and holding onto them until they appreciate (if they ever do). But if you simply must lock up your liquid capital that way, be my guest. I'll snatch up the next limited doll because you're cash poor.

    14. I have 2 of a limit of only 10. But I bought them to keep and I don't forsee ever selling them. It wasn't a particularly popular doll. They were available for several months and anyone could have bought them. But they didn't. So I'm not uncomfortable that I got 2. There were still several available for weeks after I bought mine. I often buy dolls in twos. I like them to have "friends." I think a person should think it through and make a decision they can be happy about.

    15. I'd say go ahead and get two of them. As long as you're not just planning on selling it later and at least double the price. XD

    16. if it ''limited to 20 worldwide" it sucks a bit if some people gets twins or triplets because then less peopel get the chance to own this doll.
but if its like soom, and its ''order as much as you want during this month'' then i would say DO BUY AS MUCH AS YOU WANT! because then, their will be MORE of that sculpt available and since most people end up selling dolls on the MP one day or the other, more people would be able to enjoy the said doll ;)

but at the same time, we cant tell you or anyone else what to do. and the other just add to click the buy button faster! xD

    17. Products are meant to be bought. Want a doll? Want two? Buy them. That's what they're there for.
Scalping of limited number dolls, I must admit, is crass. So don't do that.
HOWEVER. Monthly limiteds are another story. I'll admit, when I bought my doll Kia, I thought about living on saltine crackers and water for a month and buying a second Glot or Glati so I could sell her at a profit later. I see no problem with this. There are not a limited number of monthly dolls, merely a limited time slot. Therefore, if one wishes to buy extra dolls for purpose of resale, not only does it not keep someone from being able to buy their dream doll, but it also gives them more of a chance to buy one later on.
I know it's a controversial opinion, but that's just how I feel on the matter.

    18. I say, "Go for it!" It's your money and you have plans for the dolls, then why not? I've only ever had a few LEs, but I wouldn't see an issue with people making twins of dolls. Personally, I have a few doubles or near doubles in my brood (e.g. 2 standard OE Naraes, 2 Zaolls, etc) who are meant to play as siblings.

    19. I don't have any 'twins' - I don't see the point of identical dolls myself. If other people choose to that's up to them but I can see that with a limited run it would cause frustration if someone kept posting their identical dolls for sale within a few weeks.

Bit like ticket touting in dolls really, when you think about it.

    20. It's your money, your choice, and twinsies are cool! I say go for it!!!
