1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is it okay to mod a rare head?

Nov 26, 2010

    1. Personally whatever will make your contended go for it.
I mean you respect the artist head but its your dolls head and I think what makes dolls more fulfilling is that its contents and make you feel better .

Id say whatever your heart disires hold on it and lets do the modding!

    2. Seriously its fine. You paid for it so you get to do what you want with it. However keep in mind that any permanent mods you do to it will diminish it's value as a rare head. So if you just want a rare doll to flaunt around for a bit and then resell when you get tired of it keep that in mind.
It might be wise to research alternative mod techniques that are removable should you decide to sell the head later on.

Will the Secret Order of the Holy Doll come and hold a seance if you decide to take a dremel tool to your rare limited event dreaming vampire angel elf Cthulhu sculpt? (insert dripping sarcasm here) Probably, since people are weirdos. I wouldn't hold much stock in their opinions though. Letting other people dictate every aspect of your life is a quick path to depression.

If it makes you feel good do it.

    3. I agree with the assertion that once a doll belongs to me, I can do whatever I want with it. I still plan to mod one of my rare limiteds some day (is lazy), he's my doll and it's what is going to happen no matter public opinion.

But I do understand the mind of the preservationist. I'm not going to laugh at someone who thinks somebody should keep one piece of a limited sculpt edition untouched. I am one of those people that in the future will see a rare unmodded doll and ooh and ahh over it, even if I did mod my own.

    4. If you paid for the doll than sure, nobody should tell you what to do with the it, simple as that.

Although I can understand why some people may not like modding, well than those people don't mod your dolls. Someone modding a doll has no impact on anyone.

    5. Double this:
But I saw people, who mod rare head and after 2-3 years tried to sell it for price of non-mod head. No one buy it.
So, before moding you must think about 100 times I suppose.

    6. it breaks my heart sometimes to see how badly things got ruined, so I'd say - only if you know for sure what you're doing. If not... rather leave it to those who will be able to customise it without modifying it. Especially if you can get a 'basic'version of this sculpt, and - when selling - get mor emoney for the LE item :) I know, I know - these are mere pieces of plastic, but still - there are some people who'd die for this LE, so if you itnend to ruin it (e.g. profane it by opening its eyes or sanding down its elfiy ears if it's a super LE something) then you'd better just sell it.

    7. I believe that once you've paid for a doll and it's yours, you are free to do whatever you want with it. But yesterday I saw a sculpt I've never seen before and it has exactly the look I've been wanting. The trouble is he was limited and is discontinued. So now I've seeing owner pics where they're modded him, and In my mind I'm screaming "NO NO NO!" LOL

This has nothing to do with a doll being limited, but I have a thing for dolls with narrow or half closed yes. I love the character it gives them. But it's rare to find dolls like that in a world where most dolls have big round eyes. So every now and then I see where someone has taken their doll that had narrower eyes and modded them to be big and round. I want to say "Why didn't you just buy one of the bazillion round -eyed dolls to being with?"
      Yes, I'm weird.

    8. Um... yes, definitely. I think that you can do as you want with your own doll. I can see where sometimes it is a bit depressing to see someone mod a limited sculpt you want, or to badly mod and destroy it, but ultimately I don't think it's 'wrong' for someone to mod something that they own.
