It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Is it wrong to keep a doll you don't even play with?

Mar 1, 2011

    1. My doll has been boxed more or less since I got her nine months ago. For various reasons, I had to put my doll hobby on hold pretty much the week she arrived, and rather than getting frustrated with not being able to spend money/style her/play with her, I've put her aside for later. I don't feel it's wrong in any way at this time- it might be that if she sits for years I will reconsider but I don't think I need to change anything or regret buying her in the first place.

    2. I am not one to keep my dolls boxed. There is nothing wrong with keeping them in their boxes, I just don't want to pay that much money to not be able to look at them without having to dig into my closet to get their boxes.
I would do a glass display shelf, if I weren't afraid of glass displays. My grandmother had one that I barely bumped into and the shelves crashed down one on top of the other.
So instead they sit on my desk, supported by books and each other.

    3. I definitely say put her in a display cabinet or any sort of protective display. However, it's solely up to the person regarding how they want to display their dolls or even keep them in the box. But personally I think it's a bit of a waste not to show such a beautiful doll especially one that's the pride and joy of your collection. :)

    4. I don't play with most of my dolls. I either keep them in their boxes or display them.

    5. Mine sit out. All sit out, all 62 of them. The only ones put up are two Multiheads. How you want to keep them is up to you. Me, I can't stand having them in their box!

    6. The doll is yours to do with as you wish. There's no "wrong" way to enjoy your doll, as long as no one gets hurt in the process

Do you have certain dolls that you just keep in their boxes in a closet?
The only dolls that I keep boxed in the closet are the ones that I am currently selling or intend to sell. Otherwise, all of my dolls are displayed on their designated shelves.
I "play" with my dolls by taking pictures of them, changing their outfits and posing them. How often I do these things depends on free time and mood. Some dolls could sit on the shelves for months without being touched. Some get handled more often - it just depends on what I feel like doing at any given time. I enjoy having all of my dolls out on display, so that I can enjoy each and every one even when I don't interact with them directly.

Do you treat your more expensive, hard to get dolls the same way you treat your standard dolls?
I treat all of my dolls equally, regardless of price. Actually, one of my more rare dolls is my travel doll - she goes with me when I travel, so that I can take pictures of her in exotic places (as well as draw curious looks on the airplane) :D She'd be extremely difficult to replace, if something should ever happen to her; however, I love her too much to not lug her around with me. It also helps that she is tiny enough to fit into my sunglasses case, which has become her official "home" during my travels. I usually throw her in my purse and take her out for pictures if I see something particularly interesting.

    7. I treat all my dolls equally, I think it's unfair and a little bit sad to neglect one doll over the other. It's the exact reason I ended up selling my SOOM Glot. I loved the little girl to death, she was the sweetest thing in the entire world but when it came down to it, I would pick my boys over her every single time and it got to a point I was completely ignoring her (not that I meant to but...) so I ended up selling her to a friend who loves her and gives her soo much attention, it's amazing. <3 I feel much happier for her.

Anyways, I think that your situation is a little different though, and if you truly love the doll you should take her out and play with her. Be careful of course but don't imprison her just cause she's beautiful! Beacause really... what IS the point of a doll that you never see right? But everyone has their own reasons for things.
My more expensive dolls/MDs get played with just as much as my 'common' dolls and I haven't had any problems at all. I mean, I don't mind thinks like small chips in blushing and painting, or some yellowing, etc. My dolls are my babies, my family and they get attention as such. :3

I might get scolded by other doll owners for this but, I found that for me personally, the best way to enjoy the hobby is to not be afraid of what MIGHT happen to your doll, because as long as you're careful, odds are you'll be just fine. <3

    8. All mine are out. There are some that don't get played with for months but when I realize it has been a while, I will get that one out and play with them. I love them all though. I play with my expensive ones as much as my cheaper ones but I don't take the expensive ones out of the house.
