1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is there a correct temperature to store dolls?

Jul 6, 2022

    1. Hello, I am wondering about storage of dolls. I have them in a glass case with a fan blowing on them, is that alright? I have recently returned to the hobby, so for a while there have been fan on them. I surprised that they are still standing

    2. Extreme heat isn't good, that I know. I don't let the doll room get above 77 max, but I'm not actually sure what temperature level is bad for them.

    3. Room temperature is what mine have to put up with regardless.

    4. High heat and humidity can be a potent combo. High humidity can sometimes have an affect on faceup sealant when heat gets factored in. Can't say if it's the same with extremely cold temperatures, but probably a good idea to keep them out of moisture-condensed air to be on the safe side.:thumbup

As for a fan—generally I don't see any ill with it, besides a strong gust possibly knocking them over or sending something carried in the air their way (smoke, perfume, cleansers, etc.). As long as neither of those factors are in play, it should be okay:kitty2

    5. Thank you all for your comments. I just checked the temperature inside of their house, it was 69°F. The fan hasn't knocked them over after all this time. I hope I will keep getting more comments.

    6. My dolls have been stored in cold (I'd say freezing temps?) and very warm (90's). Never in direct sunlight for those times but yeah. Most that has happened is a brand of gloss on one faceup bubbled in the heat, eyelashes came undone, and eye puddy was useless.
Humidity can really mess with the elastic though.

    7. At 69°F, that temp is perfect! The fan really isn't necessary.

The main problems I've noticed are in high heat-- I'm talking like left in a hot car, left in a hot attic with no AC in a heat wave, etc. Resin will bend in boiling water, and it may warp in very high heat as well. It's not just about the resin, but some wigs can also suffer some damage if they get too hot, and I've seen eye putty kind of liquidize and drip down into the stringing (this requires new putty, new string and a thorough cleaning of the unstrung doll). The string itself can lose elasticity or even dry rot and crumble if left in extreme temperatures for long periods of time.

If your doll is kept in normal living conditions, it will probably be fine. Most conditions extreme enough to seriously damage a doll would seriously harm humans too.

    8. All my dolls are in bonus room in basement. We run a dehumidifier in basement in summer and their are no windows in room. So to me they are in perfect environment as I have no worries esp when tornado sirens go off.
