1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is your collection complete?

Jun 9, 2015

    1. I know it's a common mindset in this hobby that the collection will NEVER be finished, but let's hear from the other side :) Let's discuss those who have completed their collection/are close to completing/WANT a complete collection!

Tell me how it all started, what you originally planned and where it all ended up. Tell me about your dolls!

    2. I have three perfectly distinct Dollfie Dreams and one SmartDoll. With the last DD I felt like that was it, I had all I needed there.
      BUT
I really, really want at least one traditional BJD. Been agonizing over (okay maybe just contemplating intently) which would be the perfect first one for months now.

So I guess my answer is... uh.... part of it is complete. And I don't think I'll end up a mega collector of resin BJD's, just a couple, maybe a few special ones. Or not, who knows hahah. I thought my first Dollfie Dream would be the only one of those I wanted.

    3. I just got my first bjd a few weeks ago and I'm thinking he might be all that I get. I do have one other on my wishlist but am in no hurry to get him. I had only planned to get one so I could spoil him, plus I don't think he wants to share my attention.

    4. I finally caved in and got my first SD dolls: a Dollfie Dream and a Doll Leaves Evan (still on pre-order). I only have yosd or smaller dolls, and was apprehensive about going 'big'. Now that I have, I'm very pleased.

So my collection is 99% complete, I'm just waiting on a monkey bjd and I will be done. As next year is the year of the monkey, I really have a good chance of getting one...?

I do want to stop collecting and focus on the few I have. It's taken years to get to this point of satisfaction with my collection and the desire for the 'new and shiny' bjd has waned. Plus I just can't keep up with the cost anymore.

    5. One of my groups is essentially complete; I'm not saying I'll never add a third doll to it, but I don't feel any strong need to add anyone to that one, either. Another is definitely complete; it honestly felt complete with two, but it also gave me an excuse for a pet doll that I adored. :) I really don't see myself adding to either of those groupings anytime in the foreseeable future, as neither was ever meant as a planned larger group (they both just wedged their way into the collection), and both are very comfortable at their small sizes.

Two more of the groups need only two more dolls each, and half those dolls are definitively decided on (another one isn't decided yet, and the last could still change). One definitely won't grow after that point, and the other is very unlikely to grow at that point, so I consider them "mostly complete."

As for the last two groups... one just keeps getting bigger, and I'm not sure there actually is an end for the other. :doh I can't actually say that either one of those will ever be complete!

    6. My collection is never complete.

One of my favorite things in this hobby is creating a doll's "look". I have dolls that are complete - there's nothing more I want to do with them so to me, they're done - but there are always new looks and new dolls that catch my fancy.

Sometimes I wish I could be happy with my collection as it stands and call it complete, but I know better. :)

    7. Well, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel - LOL Only 4 main characters to go out of 35! I've still got to send some dolls out for face-ups & body work, tho. Once they've got their face, then I just keep making stuff for their wardrobe - THAT never stops anymore than it does for ME :D I do various cosplays for them as well. I have slowed down on buying resin, tho.

    8. Never ;) (or at least not in the foreseeable future/as long as my imagination and/or wallet holds out)

    9. I always say it is complete until I spot the next doll who steals my heart XD

I got my grail dolls already: Switch Soseo and Rosetta-doll Zio. I love my MSD boys to death, I have the girl I always wanted, the tinies I always wanted...(still looking for Soom Sweet though) so I'm very happy with my collection BUT I'm still looking for Narin N411 to add to my MSD collection but he's so hard to find even second hand >_< so you could say I need 2 more dolls before my collection is completed with all the dolls I want.

    10. I started on this hobby 4 years ago and when I bought the first one I had the thought of not buying another, but I have 3 dolls for now xD
My collection will be completed with 6 more dolls, but I guess you can never assure that as they keep making more beautiful dolls.
And there is a couple of not-BJD dolls I would like to try to add to my family, although they do not have an story, like a Dollfie Dream.

    11. **desperate laughter**

    12. I wish. Not even close. My taste in dolls has changed a lot in the past couple of years and I have a lot of new dolls on my wishlist that never attracted me before. So I've been selling some dolls to buy the new ones that captivated my heart though it's probably going to take years before I can acquire them all.

    13. I would say no. Right now this hobby is at a stand still since school comes first, but there are many dolls I have on my wishlist. However, I am in no rush to get them; doesn't mean I don't want them very badly though haha!

    14. I want the doll collection to be complete, but I'll keep getting clothes, shoes, accessories and props forever.

As of right now, I still have a wish list, but nothing I need immediately. I'm content waiting another 6 months, or even a few years for some of them.

At one time, I was going through dolls so fast, it seemed I was buying and selling every couple of weeks. There was one year when I seemed to have something on layaway at all times. When my collection was hitting 37 dolls, I knew I had way too many, and started cutting back. It was just out of hand for me! So I cut the crew in half, and feel better about that, but I still want to make a few more adjustments and changes before I can call it completely DONE. It's mostly just getting babies for existing dolls now, shelling one OC I've had for half my life, and two other sculpts I really love, but I'm unsure if I really want to buy them for myself, or just admire them from afar. I'd really rather have a collection of fewer than 20 dolls, and a ton of thing for them!

    15. For now, yes. When I got my first, that was going to be it. Three years later there was another sculpt that grabbed me, then the girls needed a man in their life, and so forth. The family, including children and babies now numbers 15, with boxes and suitcases of shoes and wigs and clothes. Then there are their living quarters --I don't have space for more!

    16. I thought I'd be happy with my Pukipukis but then I found a Pukifee Ante and then a Realpuki Soso. There's always one more calling my name LOL

    17. My collection isn't complete, and won't be for a while... It's not that there's a long list, it'll just take a while to have the funds to buy them and my guesses the waiting times would be long too ^^;

I currently have a Kids Sky Moonstone who I adore, but she was meant to be my second bjd, my supposed first is still at the factory from what I know.. The boy I'm waiting for is called Bartholomew (RD Andrew) and he'll be Azalea's detective partner and soulmate~

I've recently caved and added RD Lucifer to my 'to buy' list, but it will be quite some time before I can afford him... I have a feeling I'll be trying to get him second hand to at least cut down the wait time a little heh~

I'd also love to get to Dollfie Dreams and custom them to look like Lady Oscar from Rose of Versailles and Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena~

I shouldn't want any more other than pet BJDs and my own designs and things, though I am a little interested in the idea of modding a doll in the future... no idea if that'll happen though... too many hobbies...

    18. I have a Dreaming Doll Ryuna and I plan on getting probably 3 Minifees. (Mirwen, Ante and Celine)

I haven't thought of their story yet, but I know it'll come to me very soon! :D

    19. Almost.

I still want one of the SDGr Okitas, but he's really the final "missing piece". I've learned never to say never to new sculpts, but over-all? I'm pretty happy with where my collection is.

    20. Will be complete this time next year. My doll purchases are complete however! I started last month and will have 2 dolls total: a cheaper end MSD size resin doll and a higher end art doll. The only thing left to be bought are accessories and props for the MSD girl. :) I originally planned on one, ended up with two. Very happy with my collection and I have no plans to purchase any additional dolls.
