1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I voted "other" because I have considered getting them insurance before, but I'm not too sure about it. I think it's a good idea, because even though my dolls are inexpensive, I have spent at least $500 dollars on doll things, and have received about $100 dollars worth of doll gifts (for an eighteen-year-old college student, that's an absurd amount). However, insurance would not be able to replace the sentimental nature of my dolls if they were damaged. Sure, I could buy the same molds over, but they wouldn't be "my dolls". These dolls are super special to me, and I'm very attached to them. I think I'd need to research on it to really decide.

    2. Hi gwenithcoy!

May I know the name of the insurance company you have for your dolls? I'm very ignorant to this whole insurance thing. I don't have a house because I live with my parents and I still don't own a car. I was wondering if I could add my dolls in a life insurance or get insurance just for them?

My oldest doll is from 2003-2004 but I bought him in 2006 second handed. I have no proof of purchase for him because at that time there was no feedback forum (or I didn't know of it) and the sale thread is obviously gone, I paid him with a Money order because I had no CC or paypal at that time and all PMs, and e-mails exchanged with the seller are gone. :[ My other doll is from 2005, got him from DOD under a friend's name because he lent me his CC...account's name forgotten. And the third doll was also gotten from the market place, no proof of purchase :...(

I will need an insurance company that doesn't require receipts in this case. I can proof all my dolls from 2008 and up but the dearest ones for me are the oldest ones. Also, if something bad were to happen (God forbid) I would be very devastated to even think about contacting the insurance company for money.

    3. I have renter's insurance from USAA (I'm retired military) and they let me add the dolls on my policy (basically for replacement value which is of course considerable) :D

    4. I'm assuming my dolls are covered under my home insurance, as it covers all valuables. My insurance doesn't require you to register valuables as long as you have photographic proof, so I figure I'm good.

    5. My dolls are only insured to the extent that I have homeowners insurance. I only have two at the moment. However, I think it is an excellent idea for those with a large collection to get insurance specifically for their collection. My husband and I are both collectors. We have an extensive colection of videogames, both retro and modern, figures, and electronics, amongst other things, so sometime in the future I would like to get it all insured. I live smack-dab in the middle of tornado alley and we haven't had a devestating tornado go through this area since the 70s, so one of my biggest fears is that we are "due" for another X( Unfortunately, my dolls would be the least of my worries, as even with insurance some of the computer equipment in my home is not replacable :'(

    6. Bumping this thread as I really think I should get insurance. and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    7. I thought about it but its covered under my renters insurance so I don't worry about it I just worry about my one limited doll I won't be able to ever get back again

    8. Oh goodness! I'd not thought of this and (stupidly?) assumed I was covered with my homeowner's insurance. Actually, I think I recall them mentioning that collectibles are covered. I'm going to research this for sure!

    9. Mine are not insured, but I have thought about it before. I am not sure how to go about it which is what stops me.

    10. My dolls and their clothing are insured on a collectibles policy along with my anime cells, jewelry and trombone. It costs us like $20 a year I believe. My homeowner's insurance has a high deductible $600 and would only value the dolls at market price. My collector's policy values them at replacement price (which is significantly higher) and values them at the condition I determine to be acceptable (destroyed by fire vs 5 year old with a perm marker)

    11. I actually hadn't thought about a separate policy for my collection. Something to look into now I guess.

    12. My dolls aren't :O I've never thought about insurance for every individual doll before. But I guess if their value were so high, let them be insured wouldn't be a bad idea.

    13. I hope this the right place for this, but I need help. I am currently going over my property for the purpose of perhaps finding a new insurer and it has come to my attention that my doll collection is too large to be covered under my standard policy and instead need to be appraised by itself as a "collection" and then have its value added to my insurance. Problem is most appraiser have no idea what a bjd is, the closest I got was a woman who specialized in Barbies and porcelain dolls and she, quite rudely I might add, told me she wouldn't appraise my dolls because they have no value because they are "too new".

I'm sure I'm not the only person here that has larger than life collections, what have you done to insure your dolls?

    14. Do you have the receipts, or can you get other documentation concerning what you've paid for them? Your insurance company should accept that as proof of their worth. If your company won't accept that, find one that does. A websearch should turn up companies that do specialty collection insurance.

In fact, THIS place does not require an appraisal. http://collectinsure.com/?gclid=CMfa4Ma1pcgCFQ6CaQod-oQBPA

    15. I don't live on my own yet, so I don't pay any insurance. However, I'm thinking of getting insurance for collectibles (including my figures and cd collection). It's never a bad idea, since anything can happen.

    16. I am not sure! When I signed my latest home insurance, after relocating, I told them about my collection and the answer was kind of vague, plus they wanted some pictures and a description. I probably should do something to clarify that. On the other hand, if that meant I had to inform my insurance company about any changes in my collection, that is way too much hassle. I'll be careful and hope nothing bad is going to happen.

    17. I am a strong believer in having insurance on your collections (I don't have any bjds currently but working on getting them this year). I have friend who had a large collection of AG dolls as well as ran a business making clothes for them out of her house - there was a fire in her home & what the fire did not ruin the water did. When filing her claim she found out that her collection was valued at 1/3 of the replacement cost, she tried to fight them on this but did not win so she is now out thousands of dollars. I would highly recommend that if you have a collection speak to your agent about it's value, whether it is cover or not & how to get it covered.

    18. Mine aren't insured, but I am about to get homeowners insurance & ensure that they are covered within it. I'm to the point of having spent enough on them to justify it.
