1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I have home renter's insurance to cover my computer, dolls and a statue my parents gave me for my 21st. My insurance company are aware that I have some pretty expensive items, and that covers all of them.

    2. There are several insurance companies specializing in collectibles; the oldest and best known is http://www.collectinsure.com/. If you have a large doll collection, most homeowner's riders are not as good, or reasonable, as specialty services. Many homeowners policies require an update every time you add to your collection; a good collectible insurer doesn't. If you have a growing collection of anything, or travel with your dolls, it's worth looking into.

    3. My homeowners insurance policy covers contents and collectibles up to the value of $1000. If you want to insure something with a replacement value above that, you pay an additional little premium.

      In case it already hasn't been said and you're not already doing it, take pictures of your valuables and keep receipts for anything connected to the doll, like expensive clothes, wigs, etc. It all falls under replacement value of the entire collection.

      (My mom works for a major insurance company and was on my fanny to get the proper insurance for my growing group of kids)

    4. Meant to say, my policy covers collectibles up to $1000, not contents and collectibles. I can't edit for some reason.

    5. I haven't ever heard of collectables insurance before, but I persuaded my parents that they should take out art and antiques insurance that I contribute too. It covers all my limited edition/signed prints, painting etcetera, all my parents knick knacks and old furniture, and will cover my dolls and their more expensive or rare clothes and wigs as well because it includes anything of significant value that is 'old', 'artist made', or 'would be difficult to replace'. The boundries on this thing are so lax that as long as we get the itemized list okayed, I can get my friggin' boots insured >.< Okay, they're limited edition, out of production hand made Italian leather platform Goth booties and a pair of ex-catwalk Vivienne Westwoods, so I guess they do count as 'fashion art'.

      ... I had a point. Yeah, for most art insurance you have to give an itemised list (Which is a pain if you have a closet full of originals and limited edition prints from parents, friends and conventions, like an artist friend of mine) but it's really cheap. And you can even insure your own art, so if you make your own BJDs they can be covered.

    6. I just called these people today : http://www.collectinsure.com/. They do have great deals on collectors insurance...there's just one problem, though. They don't cover dolls. They would only say that it's a problem with their underwriters, and that they hope to offer coverage for doll collections this year. :( So if anyone has heard of another reputable company that sells collectors insurance, let me know...hurricane season is coming, and Florida is such a crappy state to be in for it. sigh

    7. I'd like to hear about this particular insurance. It might be right for me. I have a lot of family heirlooms. Jewelry, old books, dishes. pictures, a salt and pepper shaker collection. Things that go back four or more generations. I could put all my dolls there and those things too. I'm always after my husband wanting to know if our homeowners covers all these things but I just know we're underinsured. I just don't know what I'd do if something happened to my kids, live or resin.

    8. Does anyone have their dolls insured? You know, in case of theft, fire, damage, etc... Can someone point me in the direction for information on insurance? It just occured to me that if I'm making a significate investment in my collection, I want to know how to protect it. Some of our BJDs are one of a kind (considering unique face ups) and irreplaceable.

      Thanks!

    9. Oh yes I would like to know too. That is a very good point.

    10. *ressurects the thread*

      As it came up recently in another thread, I thought it was important thing to ask...

      Does anyone know of a company which WILL cover doll collections? I really want to insure my girl when I get her, and it's been said that Collectibles Insurance Agency, the big name in collectibles insurance, does NOT cover dolls.

      If any of you have insured your dolls (through anything other than a renters/homeowners policy), can you tell us what company you've insured them with?

    11. I have allstate renters insurance- and they are covered for replacement value. However, we've accumulated so many dolls, we now have to get a seperate rider for them.

      But where to get them appraised properly? I'de like to keep allstate insurance. I just need someone to tell me the value and put it on paper so I can give it to the insurance agency.

    12. For people in the USA, there is a place called "American Collectors Insurance" that will cover dolls and other collections you have. They will do several categories of collectibles for you, so if you collect, say, dolls and bears, then you don't have to get a separate policy for the dolls and the bears. There are certain things they don't cover, such as guns I believe, but dolls should be just fine. I am planning to get a policy with them shortly as I collect several types of things.

      http://www.americancollectorsins.com/index.php

      here's what they cover (Dolls are included)
      http://www.americancollectorsins.com/c_quali.htm

      Edited to add, they have "agreed-upon value" so you should not have to run out and get your dolls appraised. Appraisal for things that have sentimental value is always a risky business anyway.

    13. my bjd is under the same as mine and my mom's barbies. the barbies insurance is actually worth nearly as much as our house

    14. This is serious?

      I never thought of getting insurance.. I guess since I only have one doll ( one on the way, yay for my new sa husky!) ... but between me and my roommate that would make 4 dolls that are soon to be in this apartment... maybe I should think of this insurance idea...

      Can any one thats in America that actually got the insurance tell me if it was easy or not.. I never applyed for any type of insurance before...

    15. My dolls are covered by my parents' home owner insurance, but I haven't thought about it since right after I got my F-15, maybe I should look into something further for all my new dolls :sweat

    16. Seriously? God, my boys are so cheap, why bother? Besides, they just sit up here with me and our neighborhood has zero crime rate basically. If I had a nicer collection, I might look into it in case of a fire or something.

    17. Like, if you lived in a 'high-risk area' or something. XD

      I mean, some of our babies can cost quite a pretty penny! If you had the choice [ as I know some people insure specific objects such as paintings and the like... ] would you? :3

      God forbid if someone ran off with my Pegasus-sama~!! X.x;; I've read such horror stories about people going to anime conventions, and having whatever doll they went with hijacked right out of their hands, and other horrid things... X__x;

      If he was insured 'against theft,' replacing him would be a bit easier - minus [ the newfound hatred and distrust of humanity. XD ] the sadness of losing your 'original' kiddo. ;__;

      Heck, if your doll was hijacked, would you replace him or her? Or would it be too painful? O.o;
