Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Is your doll stinky???

Jan 17, 2007

    1. My best friend (who also collects bjd) called me "Doll-sniffer" the other day.

      And proud of it!

I'm a little sad now that my lovely hound, my first dollie addition, is losing his scent. Now it's just the joints and the top of his head that give me my fix!

    2. The new resin smell was only really strong to me when I first opened the box. And it quickly fades away.
I do wash my dolls clothes but only once every 5-6 months. I am a compulsive germ-a-phobe though.
I hand wash their clothes in bath gel which leaves them smelling great.
I also store my girls clothes in a hatbox with a wrapped bar of rose soap. Since it's wrapped it doesn't hurt anything and it leaves all the clothes smelling of roses (my favorite scent).
I've heard of people putting tea bags and such in their doll to make them smell nice but I haven't tried that. I'm too afraid of using anything that might harm the resin.

    3. ><* I wonder if people saw me pass around my doll in the car so my friends can smell him...

My boy now smells of rubbing alchohol, before the crowd sniffing. I really dont know why...I used nail polish remover on him for the stains..:sweat

    4. I sometimes put my boys back in their boxes for an hour or so just so I can take them out again and they'll have that delightful nostalgic resin smell that fills those boxes. :)

    5. My Faelwen (DoD Petsha) still smells like nailpolish after almost 2 weeks, I stuffed her full of plastic vanilla scented stars in her head and torso yesterday. She's starting to smell nice like my kids corolle dolls

    7. Shoujiki smelled... well, new, when I first got him. He was a kit though, and also picked up the smell of Tokyo, since that's where I strung him. The scent went away when I started playing with him thought.

Nino is a second hand boy, so he doesn't smell at all. He smells like people!

Aiba might have a scent, but I was too busy cooing over his pre-sanded seams to notice. XD

    8. I have bad sense of smell, so if anything is off, I won't really know about it >_>

    9. I only just got my first dollfie on friday.. he definitley has a smell.. it's a sweet, slightly musky smell with a little bite to it - it didn't bother me at first but after mauling him for a while I had to put him away because it'd given me a headache >_<; He's still really smelly - and I did flex a joint to see if it was stronger there and WOO! insta-headache xD Now that he's been here a few days it's not too bad.. it's just a pleasant little smell that goes along with his pleasant little self :)

(though if I go sniffing him intentionally I still get a slight headache >_< lol) dollfie fumes!

    10. July's clothes usually only get washed if they accidentally get dirty. I would also never spray perfume on her~ (Too strong. Plus, I'm not sure how the resin would react to all the chemicals.) She'll usually get washed about once every month or so with some soap and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but just to keep her nice and clean, not because she gets stinky. XD

    11. When Cicero got out of the box, man he REALLY smelled like resin dust (don't worry I didn't take a huge wif out of it!)

The smell pretty much went away. Now he smell nice fresh and resiny :3

    12. I was worried about my girl being in the same dress for ever so I started making her a new outfit over the weekend.

No doll of mine will be stinky!

    13. Tristan smells like lilacs, but only because he smelled strongly of vinyl when I got him, and I found that very unpleasant. (He's an Obitsu) I put some lilac essential oil on a cottonball in his head. (It nestles around where his head/body joins, so if it ever does stain it won't be obvious.) I think the scents soaked in though. When I gave him his last faceup, and had to heat his head up to get his eyes back in, it smelled like lilacs, not Testors.

I've been trying to think of good scents for vampires, and I hvan't hit on one yet....

I wash his clothes about once a month, when it's nice and I'm bored. I strung a line across my bitty balcony and I hang them out to dry, so they smell fresh.

    14. Both my dolls were pre-owned so any "new doll" smell was gone. I haven't really noticed any odors. Of course, now I'll have to go home and check. :)

    15. Cute questions!

Kaito changes his outfit every few other days.
I haven't tried washing his clothes yet *guilty*
I don't dare to spray parfum on Kaito or his clothes because i'm worried that parfum will stain or make the resin go yellow.

Yes, he is a fresh smelling boy! I think it's because of his furwig - it has a distinctive but nice dollie smell! His body doesn't have any smell. I would often ask my non-dollie friends to smell him but of course they'd refuse to ^^.

    16. Yeah my doll is stinky at the moment >8(

I just bleached his jeans yesterday and no matter how much I rinsed the jeans after they still smell of bleach...He must be getting sick of me sniffing his legs XD

    17. basqui and bennett just got a nice thorough bath today, thanks to sweetest185.... I unstrung them both and she washed all the parts, and I got to give them both new elastic... Its like they're brand new! (I got both of these dolls secondhand, so wouldn't know what 'new' felt like with them).... *grins*

    18. *picks up Illia and Dominic and sniffs them* Noo! They lost their Resin smell! I love that smell! It made me feel all happy ;_;

    19. This made me think of something that people in many settings often forget -- not just doll sales. Some of us unfortunate souls out in the world have exceptionally bad reactions to chemical odors of certain kinds. In my case, perfumes send me rushing for the allergy meds almost immediately - no matter how pleasant the fragrance. :( (which really stinks, pardon the pun)

I've had a couple of adoptees arrive bearing fragrances that required them to sit around nekked for a few days.

I just wanted to bring that up as something to think about if you're adopting out a doll. You probably don't want to inadvertently make your purchaser sick! ;)

Oh and no, I don't *think* any of my kids stink, but they do have an excess of cat hair on their clothes:doh

    20. Strange; I never really noticed my BJD's resin smell, even when I first got him. I like the smell of his jeans though. I've sniffed them in front of my mother a couple times, though she has yet to comment on it. XD
