1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

It's my dolly and I need it NOW! (questions about waiting for a doll to arrive)

Apr 23, 2011

    1. I can wait months and months for a doll, but when I order something like doll shoes, I want them yesterday. When I have a doll on order, I join the waiting thread for it so I can monitor arrival times for the company in general, and then I just try to forget about it and do other things while I wait. Once in a great while, I find the doll I want in the marketplace and can have instant gratification, but that doesn't happen often.

    2. I won't buy from companies that I feel have excessive wait times. I simply lose interest in dolls I have to wait a long time for. I bought a pair of Minifee from Fairyland, and it was rather sucky realizing I was already bored with them and still had over a month to wait for them so I could sell them. I almost purchased a doll from Soom recently, and the wait time was a huge factor in my list of cons on whether to take the plunge or not.

I've been rather spoiled by my two favourite companies, as Volks has extremely reliable waits for their dolls that actually have waits - it's always two months or less for LE's ordered through VolksUSA and no wait for international AE LE's unless there are special conditions, and I've never had an FCS order take longer than 2 months. Bluefairy often ships dolls within days of you placing an order, and their limiteds and preorders which do have a longer wait never go over a month.

Buying secondhand is always nice because you can get the doll so much faster.

    3. That is precisely what I'm worried about, which is why I'm waiting it out until I get the two that I ordered first (who are my dream dolls, the second I ordered is the reason I got into BJDs) and if I end up still seeing her appeal once I've gotten them then it probably was the influence of time.

I'm glad this is the worst wait I'll have. I was imagining it would be horrible if it felt like this every time XD

    4. I do tend to lose interest in a doll if I have to wait too long. My Custom House order took over a year and by the time I got it I didn't want them any more. Since the initial order I had gotten five new dolls and had simply moved on, mentally. This is an extreme example, but it has also happened with shorter waits. Guess I just have a short attention span.

    5. Not to any great extent. If I have the choice of buying new and direct and waiting, or buying the same doll second hand with no wait time, I'll often buy second hand. I buy second hand a lot anyway (you can get some really good deals that way), and one of the benefits is not having to wait, but if it's a doll I really want wait time is not going to keep me from buying it. It just depends on the individual doll and situation.

    6. Wait times don't influence me... in that way at least :P

Sure I'd love it if they could ships my babes out within a week, but I guess after owning a good handful of dolls I can see why it takes so long.
My breaking point for that is about four months, though. It should never take four months to make and ship an entirely blank doll. xB (And my breaking point, it's just when I start getting irritated, it doesn't stop me from ordering them... go figure :sweat)

And after getting my first two dolls I found it easier to be able to buy clothes for incoming ones before they came. I don't feel comfortable making my own without the doll there, though.
(I use the term "make my own" extremely loosely... I might as well just wrap my boys up in the scraps, BUT I digress XD;;; )

Now as for wait times while a doll's in transit to my house... .... you might want to stay away from me if it takes more than two weeks, I have many gripes with my postal "service" and a lot of blind fury... >____>;;; (Sadly inconveniences like that can't be avoided from buying secondhand).

    7. I'm a 'bad' one together with writerm - wait time does matter for me. I will still get the doll I really want even with the wait, but I absolutely refuse to have more than one doll at a time I'm waiting for. So any other urges, crashes and LEs coming up while I wait just have to wait too :) Right now I'm waiting on Fairyland RealPuki - and even though I had an opportunity and money to buy PukiFee Zoe I really, really want, I passed on it in favor of an anthro that was in stock on DDE.

If the dealer has something in stock that is similar to my chosen doll (just has a different skin tone, for example), I will go for what's in stock. Instant gratification's great :)

    8. Nope, not at all! If I've found the perfect doll, I'll wait. I mean, if the company or seller has a really prominant record of having ridiculously long wait times, I might be a bit hesitant, but if it's really that one-true-doll or it's a good opportunity, I wouldn't mind... I'd probably hastle the seller a lot while waiting just to make sure :XD:

Short answer: I'd wait... Not patiently, but I'd wait. I wouldn't completely rule out a doll just because of wait times.

    9. As long as the company is reliable and I know what I'm in for, I don't really mind the wait times. I'd never buy from a company that had serious problems with delays or keeping to wait times. I bought an Angelheim doll when they were rather backed up after holding a sale, but I was only waiting two months in the end and they seem to have caught up on things. I'd never buy from say, Customhouse/Aidolls.

    10. My first doll I ordered from a company, and by the second month of waiting, I purchased another of the second hand market that became my first doll. When the company doll showed, I sold him because he'd taken four months to show, and I had animosity towards him because of it. Part of the reason, is because I got the impression that he wasn't going to take -nearly- that long. I am terrible at waiting. I've told myself that I never plan to buy from a company again, but perhaps now that I have a doll to keep me sated, I won't mind the wait so much.

But four months for my first doll?... I didn't handle it well.

    11. Wait times have absolutely no effect on my interest level for a doll. As long as the company is trustworthy and reliable, I'll wait however long it takes for my resin. It's tough sometimes, but I have such a long wishlist that it's going to take me forever to get them all anyway. :sweat

A bigger factor for me is if I can get them on layaway or not, through the company or a reputable dealer. I have a hard time saving up large amounts of money (I tend to impulse buy dolly clothes when there's extra cash lying around) but I treat layaway payments like bills and budget for them. It makes the wait a little easier, too- I can count down the days until my next payment, until counting up the days I've been waiting. :)

    12. I'm still waiting for my doll. She's supposed to be here by the end of the month. But I wasn't influenced by the time it would take. I was considering getting her from DOA when I was eligible but when I saw her on dollfairyland I totally fell in love with her. So I just ordered her from there instead of doing guess work. :3 I'm satisfied with my decision but I'm getting anxious. The end of the month can't come soon enough!

    13. It would not affect my choice of doll. I want the ones that I actually want, and anything else is both a waste of time and money. Also, it's hard to know what the wait will truly be like, as companies that have shipped faster will get bogged down, and ones that ship slower or more normally will get faster at times. They all say on their sites that production times are estimates and may take longer than that.

I'm quite impatient and don't like waiting at all. My first three dolls I bought direct from Volks stores and the fourth 2nd hand from Dollyteria (and the couple of days he took to arrive drove me crazy). The first doll I had to wait for was my FCS boy, and he was done in a month; my first couple that I needed to wait for drove me up the wall! However, I've gotten a lot better at it, and the only wait that truly went beyond the estimated time was my MNF, ordered during an FL event. Honestly, though, I've found wait times more frustrating on items, especially those ordered in GOs etc., on the MP, than ordering dolls from companies.

    14. Wait times influence my doll purchases most of the time... Two dolls I've bought at conventions, and three I bought from websites where they were in stock, so the longest I've waited is maybe a week and a half. In a few days, though, I'll be doing my first ever preorder, and since it's from Fairyland I expect it'll take quite some time, what with the price increase and people rushing to buy before that happens. I'm not really upset about the waiting, though...I have to do layaway anyway, so it's not like I could avoid it and still get the doll I want.

    15. I have waited over 6 months for a doll so, no wait times don't matter. I like getting a doll quick but I can wait. I have also done layaway for months and that increases wait times too.

Waiting is just waiting. It doesn't mean that it will never arrive.

    16. Wait time does not influence the sculpt I buy, but it can influence who I buy it from.

    17. Does wait time influence the doll that you want to get?

Only if the doll I'm interested in is in stock with the options I want at a dealer. For example, I got my FL Bisou boy and Cupid from DDE because they were in stock. I didn't see the point in placing the order with FL and waiting a few months when I could have it in a few days. For dolls that don't have a dealer? It doesn't really matter to me; if I want the doll then I have to accept the wait time. If the wait time is going to be extended due to an event or moving or someother difficulty, then I may hold off on getting the doll until some of the commotion has gone down. At any rate I only start getting seriously antsy once I have a tracking number no matter what the wait time is.

    18. I find that when I get a doll it's after I've searched and searched and finally found the right one at a price I'm-hopefully-satisfied with. So no, not really. If you've found the one you're after I'd say grab it while you can! Especially if you don't know if it'll be there when you decide you want it. Being a BJD collector can make you somewhat paranoid. XD

    19. I can wait for a doll as long as I know for sure it is coming.I have so many projects going on that my hands are always busy so I can wait as long as the company is clear about when they might ship. I usually do a lot of research on the doll company before I buy (except for my first doll) so I know what to expect and I'm not anxious about the quality.

    20. Not influenced by wait times for a full doll. I went to LA for Volks FCS, knowing fully well it would take 3 months... and it definitely did! Definitely worth the wait. For only parts of a doll, though, I'm not sure I would. Probably not..
