Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"Junk" bjds

Jun 8, 2014

    1. I'd love to work on a 'junk' doll. I love seeing neglected dolls being brought back to their former glory and treasured again.

    2. I have a feeling I know which doll head you are talking about. Maybe I'm wrong, then please just disregard my post, but I remember you commenting on being quite fond of my girl's previous mods (and wishing me well with my project) not too long ago. I'm sorry seeing her old mods go ended up making you upset, if we are indeed talking about her. I hope you'll enjoy your new doll as much as I do mine :)

    3. I suspect that many (If not most of us-) do eventually end up with at least one project doll somewhere along the line...

My own is a "first generation" Senior Delf Bliss, who came to me with broken hands, stains from a red and black tattoo that had been painted over unsealed resin, and one of the worst cases of yellowing I've ever seen in a non-French resin doll. (Seriously, he started out NS, but looking at him now? People usually assume he's a yellowed BW. There's very, very little of the original pinkish hue left in him except for those few places where his outfit completely covered the surface.) Not to mention the gouge in his forehead that looked like someone had gone after him with a screwdriver... o_0

It took a summer's worth of tinkering to make Muninn presentable again, but I'd say it was worth the effort. I may have bought the guy for a song, but after going through the process of those repairs, I value him pretty darn highly. I don't really do the "bonding"-thing, but he definitely became a favorite.

    4. I've sold "junk" dolls before. XD I had one head that I bought in its original condition and in person, I just didn't think it was nearly as attractive as in pictures, so I tried to mod it myself and....lets just say I was in no way ready for such a big project. O_O I, in my opinion, completely ruined the head. I ended up selling it as junk for barely more than shipping cost. I wonder what ever became of him....

So, since I've learned I need to mostly stick to more simple mods, I absolutely love watching somebody rescue a "junk" doll. Whether it's restoring the doll to its original beauty, or giving it a totally new, but nice look, it's good to know that if I "ruin" a head beyond all possibility of me fixing it, someone out there can still give it hope!

    5. Honestly I'm not a modder...XD; I know if I bought a "junk" doll I'd be eating my money with how much I'd spend to fix it..I would be paying someone else to repair the doll.

    6. I'm still at the stage where modding and restoration terrify me, so I can't say a "junk' doll would appeal to me as I'd have to get it fixed, but for those with the skills and knowledge it'd be pretty cool. :)

    7. I personally love mods

It's taken me a long time to apply this to my own collection, I would scroll for hours scanning the net looking at other peoples dolls but keep my own collection sort of reserved, putting up with extra long bangs, etc... But it anymore! I think modding applied to accessories as well.

My first resin was a volks mimi, unfortunately she was modded when she arrived, I had no clue from the auction that she was going to be, and only found out through people shocked comments when I proudly posted my first pics of her, which no doubt troubled me somewhat. She had no inner corners to the bottom of her eyes which made her eyes very open. I have fixed her now but it. Took me a long time to stop thinking about it and become positive about mods.

Also almost all my dolls are "old" and second hand I love getting them and scrubbing them up and making them mine :D

    8. I wish i could get my hands on a cheap junk doll to restore =D i feel like it's something i'd be good at.

    9. I bought a Dollshe Hound a while ago that was already damn old and had lived the last time in a garage.
He looked horrible, he was dirty and banana yellow, his strings were rotten and the clothes/wig he was wearing were in a pretty bad shape too.
He was still sporting his original face-up though, even if it was a bit damaged already.
It took me two weeks of nearly daily sanding to get him back to a creamy white and to wash off all the dirt and stains.
I like him very much, but I'm a bit sad that his body lost a few details due sanding him...these pretty veins on the Dollshe hands :(

I know people like to say that this kind of work helps them bonding, but I definitely prefer a fresh doll out of the box that doesn't need to be rescued to look good again.
It's a lot of work and often you won't be completely able to restore them to their old beauty, especially when sanding is involved, and with some skintones you can't do anything at all (like tan that turned green).

    10. I just bought a junker off the MP and I hope to have fun doing whatever he needs to become whatever he and I envision. Have to wait for him to get here, I won't know until then. My dolls sooner or later tell me who they are, and it is usually sooner, Ijust don't listen sometimes.
He spoke to me somehow from his photos and I know I needed him and he needed me.

    11. There are so many tips and helpful tutorials to help someone restore a doll. I think it would be a nice project if I ever decided to go that route. I like the idea of mods and customization very much, so seeing dolls get restored always makes me happy. If it can be fixed, it's good to fix it!

    12. I think the hardest part is finding junk bjd's. I'd love to have a go at restoring one later but will have to see what happens.
      I really like upcycling though.

    13. Although I wouldn't be up to restoring one (at least, not right now) I think what would be a cool aspect of having a junk doll is that you wouldn't feel afraid to mess it up. If it's already yellowed or broken, there's a freedom in being able to handle it roughly.
