1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Just missing a BJD sale you wanted.

Sep 10, 2022

    1. Too often there is some event I never know about until it's too late, or I'm too broke to actually get anything I want at the moment. At this point it feels like it is part of being in this hobby, missing out on sales/releases. lol

    2. The Granado Cain that was just available! But it’s not like I have the money to afford it anyway :...( .I’ll try again in a few months.

    3. Not a doll but I had a chance to pick up a pair of resin guitars that were released with the full sets of a few older dolls I own. I was able to snag one by the time i saw them but the other had just been sold. I don't really have much hope of finding it either as each was limited to 20.

    4. That happened to me. I was waffling on a Dream Valley Rah eagle version. I have a huge thing for bird boys, and he was calling to me so hard. But I'd just bought two dolls that weren't in yet, and my very first two at that (I didn't even know for sure if BJD would be for me!!) but. I couldn't stop thinking about him.

I somehow mixed up the dates for his preorder period, and by the time I'd discussed him with my friend and got all excited about ordering him...it was too late. I'd missed out by I think only a couple of days.

Asked on here if DV ever re-releases sculpts. And they do, I was told it was just kinda luck of the draw for if/when he'd be available for an event. But they did tell me that I should keep an eye on in-stock places like Denver Dolls, and BJDivas around the time I start seeing him pop up as received. As well as put a notice in the marketplace here at the same time, in case someone who got him just didn't bond.

I saw a couple people getting him in about a month ago, and got hopeful. But I wasn't having any luck.

And then one of the sweet people here saw that he was in stock at Denver Dolls. And DMed me, because they remembered I'd been asking about him. I was able to snatch him up!!! And I couldn't be happier!! I love him so much, and he's inspired me to sew and create clothes for him which is not something I ever imagined myself doing lol. Him and the other doll I have at home (and the one I'm still waiting for lol) have inspired me so much!!

So don't give up!! You'll get that one you've been eyeing if they're really meant for you! It takes patience and some luck, but they come home when they're ready to! 8D

    5. I always miss the sales. :doh

    6. Oh, for sure I've had this happen! It's been a long time, because I haven't really been looking in the MP (no money, don't tempt me!) but it's sadly happened more than once. I just tell myself that if I didn't get it, it wasn't meant for me so I'd likely have been unhappy with it anyway.

Yes, I do sometimes lie to myself to make myself feel better :sneaky

    7. I've got this terrible habit (terrible for me emotionally, great for my wallet) of keeping tabs on a specific secondhand doll listing, telling myself I'm gonna buy it, waiting days and weeks, for it to inevitably sell :doh

I've learned my lesson once so far and jumped on a new listing after having missed out on one a few months earlier, but as long as I'm still browsing listings without having the budget, it's definitely going to happen again!

    8. Yes, totally had this experience many times.
I think about every purchase (especially expensive things) over and over and over again, pondering and waffling for a long time before finally buying and that has lead me to missing out on many a doll/doll item. Ultimately it ended up just fine as I was able to find the majority of those eventually (sometimes years later).
It stings for a little bit but I like to think of it as "that particular doll was not meant for you, you'll be able to get that sculpt someday but need to wait for the one that is meant to be with you"

But last year when being made to do sudden (and unpaid mind you) overtime caused me to miss the end of an auction and I lost out on a VOLKS Ian by an hour and $20 is still super frustrating to think about:vein
I have hope that if she's really meant to come here that the one meant for me will someday present herself.

    9. I missed the pre-order for Dream Valley Dean V1 Giraffe version, specifically his fullset cause I wasn't financially able to get him at the time, I knew of the second hand market and thought I could get him there, but I haven't seen more than one up for sale so far and he was blank and in Grey resin. I just know he'll be expensive as heck if he ever comes up second-hand and it hurts but tbh im so prepared to pay the price

    10. I missed the auction that I was waiting for yesterday ;( I thought I set the alarm in advance, but I didn't. It's so sad that I forgot. It was a long-awaited doll sales post and how stupid I am!

    11. This was literally me just few days ago. I set up alarms and was so ready to try and get my hands on Tianba edition of Armoured Zhou Yu on Ringdoll. The competition for those 5 sets must have been fierce. I didnt even get to see the page loaded

    12. I'm sorry you missed out! That sounds very disappointing - to be so close, yet just too far!

Honestly, this is why I never attempt to enter auctions, even if I like a doll. I just can't stand the thought of fighting with other people to own something. I only enter preorders (or purchase secondhand) where I feel like everyone has an opportunity.

I have purchased some dolls that were "limited" in the sense that they were made by small one-person-run companies and therefore the quantities were limited just due to practicality. But I never felt like there was a rush to see who wins. On the other hand, there are dolls I admire greatly (for example, ChimeraDoll sculpts) but they go SO fast. I've read you actually have to be close in location to the artist so that the computers make a quicker connection (or something like that X) - most people who order don't even have a chance and I can't take the stress of trying.

I hope you'll have another chance soon! Or that your doll plans will change and you'll find another sculpt that you love just as much!

    13. Oh, it’s happened with me not so long ago. I did want minifee Chloe so much and seen her sleeping head on the sale. But the answer “I sold it this morning” is so disappointed!
Now I am thinking about WooSoo sleeping head. Maybe it is time to buy and no matter what.

    14. not dolls but i DID miss out on a Dollheart outfit set that i wanted thats not getting restocked :(

    15. It doesn't hurt to reach out to the doll maker and very politely and kindly (without pressure) ask if it would be possible to add your order, or if they might have a wait list for expired layaways. I have gotten in significantly after the deadline when the doll maker had not yet begun production on the doll sculpt.

    16. Yup. I've had Switch Waseon on my wishlist for 6 years now, took a break for 4 years, came back, bought some dolls, decided to check up on how Switch is doing one day (months into returning from my break), and found out they just had another order period for Waseon less than a week before I checked. I wish I had just checked sooner, because if I had known I definitely would've forgone one of the dolls I purchased during the time his order period was open. Time to wait several more years for them to open up orders for him again (if they ever do).

    17. Yes, I feel like I am always a day late and a dollar short as the saying goes.
I also tend to discover doll companies/artists that I absolutely love after preorders have ended.
I have bad luck apparently, lol.

    18. 15 years in & yeah, I've missed quite a few dolls I wanted. Sometimes it was finances that didn't work out & other times I discovered the doll waaaaay later when others were discussing it & well past the order period. All that being said, I'd say probably 1/2 my collection is pre-loved (I have 72 dolls currently).

I've gotten most of my "missed" dolls 2nd hand though sheer dogged persistent looking & a healthy dose of luck. I'm currently eyeing 2 dolls but can only afford 1 *sigh*. I'm also still really mad at myself for waffling too long over a blue Luts Abadon that was for sale on FB. I love the Abadon sculpt & I'm pitifully weak to coloured resin. I should've pounced on him.

    19. This literally just happened to me. I discovered a doll with about 5 days left on the preorder window, and set up shopping service accounts and financials as fast as I could (I wanted to buy it off Taobao instead of a dealer for various reasons). I was very careful to pay everything... and I thought the order had gone through completely, and didn't check my shopping service account for a few days. Later discovered there was an additional TB charge, and paid that -- but it was too late, by that time the preorder window had closed and the shopping service couldn't order the doll for me anymore.

I'm sure I can get it again on a future preorder, although this is uncertain because this is a small studio. Still. Feeling pretty crushed right now and kicking myself for not checking website notifications and such more frequently. :(

    20. I had that happen once on one platform. The sales post was published 8 minutes prior and yet someone already contacted the seller before me. I was devastated. I knew those dolls were rare. It was my grail, and I had been looking for a year without seeing any up for grabs. I even had a million wtb posts out there stating I'll pay a lot more than the seller was listing the item for.

I poked the ice with a stick, so to say, and it turned out the seller had not yet responded the first buyer candidate. I struggled with my morales for a solid minute and then wrote to the seller I'm paying double her asking price if she replies to the first buyer that unfortunately they were not the first to contact about the item, and sells it to me.

I still own that doll, and in these few years, I have not seen another one for sale so I know for me it was a good decision. I don't see I harmed the first buyer except for the obvious disappointment of not getting the item, since they don't know that this happened. They just think they were too late for the sale, and that happens to all of us sometimes.

I've been late to a sale more often than this once, but I no longer remember those occasions. I felt bitter for a moment and then moved on, because there was nothing else to do about it. Only this once I wasn't just having it. Sometimes I've asked the seller for the username of the buyer if it's a rare doll, and wrote to them letting them know that I exist if they ever need to rehome their doll. :XD: Once someone whom I initially lost a buyer race against sold the doll to me later on when they no longer had use for it, and I was so happy they remembered me!
