1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Keeping Spare Heads as Replacements?

May 3, 2019

    1. I don't have any sadly, but I wish I could have afforded to have a few, of some of the heads I've modified. I don't regret modifying the heads I own, but I do wish I owned unmodified versions of two of them. One of them I knew was getting discontinued but I didn't have the $$$ to get an extra head before he was discontinued. I was still in college and struggling with school expenses, to get another head -- the doll was a bit expensive at the time as a complete doll, and not too popular to even dream of having a split partner to just barely afford the head. I saw the doll second market quite a bit afterward, but it was always yellowed, or damaged in some way. I don't like purchasing things that are damaged, but more so when I wanted a pristine copy of it in the first place (as a duplicate, more than a replacement of the one I modified). The second one wasn't as pricey and was a pretty popular sculpt, but I wasn't actively looking for BJD news then, and I didn't see the sculpt was getting discontinued. I never thought it would, because it was a relatively popular and a relatively inexpensive sculpt, so it did hurt a quite bit when I saw he was gone for good after he was discontinued. I could have gotten a "duplicate' unmodified one and I didn't, and still to this day I regret that one very much, because I could have afforded it, if only I had been paying attention! Although I don't own replacement/duplicate sculpts, I wish I did -- if I could turn back time, I would buy those two sculpts instantly, no hesitation, even if I had to sell a kidney or two (for at least one of them). I wouldn't own one of a doll I haven't modified however, or just do have a second one -- I've modified a lot of heads, but only want two of them in pristine condition, as duplicates (not replacements, alternative characters or even alternative looks, just because I truly love the original sculpts, but the weirdo in me felt the urge to modify them at some point).

    2. I seriously considered buying a spare head for DZ Raymond when I found out he'd be discontinued last April.
I had only just received my first Raymond head a couple of days before DZ made the announcements, and as I was so obsessed with him I became worried knowing that if I ever wanted another Raymond for any reason I would never be able to, so I thought of getting another head before they closed the ordering window, but anyway I backed out as
I thought it would be a waste if my obsession with him cooled down later, and
I didn't want to spare anymore $$ for any doll related purchases at that point. I am glad I did so, as this would give me the opportunity to spend the $$ on another doll I like later this year.
