1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Keeping the muse alive(saving/waiting for your first doll)

Feb 15, 2012

    1. I've never had the problem of losing interest while waiting for a doll... As soon as they're here in my house, I remember what I wanted to do with them. :love That's when I start to get to know the doll who's actually here.

While I'm waiting, constant reminders are the last thing I want-- I try not to watch the calendar, and instead of obsessively rehashing my plans & stalking the doll's pre-shipping status, I try to think about, like, hockey or wrestling. :XD:

    2. I've been wanting a bjd about 4 years now, and main reason why I haven't gotten one is that I don't have a credit card, and my parents aren't allowing me to use my money on something so expensive. So my interest in bjd was on and off all these years, and what kept me coming back to these doll was looking at all the creative ways other doll owners have customized their dolls. I currently do have enough money for a doll, but I'm waiting until I get into college (which is when I'll get a card) to actually buy one. In all honesty, I wish I found out about bjds this year, since I'm graduating high school this year, so that I don't have to agonize about not being able to get these beautiful dolls.

    3. I've always wanted a BJD but didn't think seriously about it until the recent months. I make sure to visit here to see if the spark is still there, look at doll-arrival threads. Making your cellphone wallpaper the doll you want is also good, maybe make a back story for her/him as well, among other things. Just don't go too overboard or you'll burn out!

It's daunting since they are expensive, but keep at it!

    4. Cease,
I'm glad that this thread was useful to you. Good luck with your first doll!

      JennyNemesis,

I can understand why not keeping your mind elsewhere would be helpful when waiting for your doll to arrive, otherwise the time would seem that much slower.

Right now I am in the saving stage, because of this the less I think of the doll I want the less money I put into the savings. I'm afraid I will either slowly start putting less and less money in my fund, or find other things to spend my money on.

I find this more possible since I have yet to even hold a doll, and so don't know what I am truly saving for. When met with other things I want that I have seen, held and used it will get harder to justify the doll purchase. This has yet to happen I just want to make sure I prevent anything like this from happening.

      RamenNoodle,
That is a long time to wait. I hope that you can get your doll soon, and enjoy your last year of highschool :)

      Mignonette,
Those are some good ideas; I hope that spark stays! You keep at it too! :)

    5. I was lucky to have the money right at the moment I wanted my first Doll. So I didn´t have to wait the saving time to. But waiting for a brought Doll is also nerv wrecking. I´m still waiting since november 2011. But speaking about my boy, pictures and buying some clothe for him helped a lot.

    6. If your saving or waiting it is tough. I hope your doll comes in soon that is a quite a long wait. Pictures and little gifts sound like good ideas, thanks! :)

    7. I try to visit DoA and other Doll forums every day, have a picture of a DD as my wallpaper, and try not to think of them constantly when I have work to do! In all honestly I don't really have a 'doll fund' but rather a savings account which I am reluctant to spend money from in case I need it over the summer for rent... Even if it is all money which is meant to be for 'fun' things!

    8. I try to do those things too, although some days the forums go unchecked. It is always good to be prepared hopefully summer goes by and the money is still there for 'fun' things! Good luck waiting :)

    9. Thanks! Although I have the cash in my savings I'd rather wait and see if I will need it for rent over the summer, though it would be a bummer to spend a couple of years' birthday / Christmas money on rent... xD

I've been watching Rozen Maiden as a way to get some Dollie goodness while I wait... (b^_^)b

    10. I've been saving for my first doll for the last two years.... I'd have a great deal saved, and then finances would demand that I spend it. Occassionally, I'd drop off the forums for a while, not look at doll stuff, and focus on some other things... but in order to keep up my interest, I'd look at BJDs on Deviantart and look up tutorials on youtube.

    11. The way I kind of see it is... If you do end up distracted and spend the money on something else because you no longer want to buy the doll, is it really such a bad thing? IMO You just saved yourself a big hassle of having to then re-sell the doll once you figured out that you didn't want it after buying.

If it's a matter of wanting the doll and wanting to keep focused.... Yep, I set myself a computer back ground, a little book full of printed pictures.... I also create a spreadsheet or a list where I meticulously add every scrap of money that I save for the doll/make more plans on where to get more money. I also make a spreadsheet of everything I wish to buy for the doll, and rank them in order of importance and have little stop points of sums for buying everything above this importance category. (So, for example, the first stop would be the doll itself - then maybe a face-up or optional resin parts, then optional resin parts that I may/may not want, etc). I make the both lists pretty with colours and pictures of the dolls too. Then I compare the two and project how quickly I might reach my goal. :)

I usually don't go through this process though - most of the dolls I bought, I purchased on my CC and paid it off later. However, I did do it for my first doll, and I'm doing it now for the current doll I want (Chibi Unoa) because she's a lot more money than I ever spent on a doll (not counting a Chrom I used to own, but he was purchased with a sudden large sum of gift money that fell on me from various relatives). I don't actually make very much at my current job, but I figured - you know what? This is my first job in my chosen career field, I think I deserve something special for getting this far, especially since I do think I have the money for it after I pay for everything essential. ^^ (ALthough it's also a bit different in this case because it's not just a matter of having the money, but waiting for Gentaro Araki to sell the Chibis again, which have not been up for pre-orders in a while....)

    12. I actually got my first doll yesterday, after waiting for her for 80+ days. It was well worth the wait, by the way. I mostly stayed on DoA a lot, looked around at other dollies on Flickr and dA. A lot of the time I'd keep my mind occupied with my classes and supporting my boyfriend's band by going to their shows. I got really antsy, after seeing so many people getting their dolls before me, but I knew the wait would be worth it.
I know saving for my next doll may be a little bit harder since I'm a full time student and I put most of my time on classes and the little free time I give myself I spend with my boyfriend and I am jobless at the moment. But I'll just look at Marcy and know she feels alone without more of "her kind", so that will keep me motivated :)

    13. Well, I've discover bjds like 2 years ago, but at that time, eventhough I had the money, I hadn't a way to buy them, my fathers didn't want me to spend so much money in a doll...but time passed and they acceded, and now I'm starting to save for the second time...

    14. Oh man! I'm waiting for my first two right now. And seriously, it's killing me. Also I think I'm driving my friend round the bend (hey it rhymes!) from talking non stop about them since I ordered them xDDD

    15. Heh, I changed my mind so many times while saving for my first doll-- I loved so many sculpts, and I thought I had finally made a choice when I saw Luts KDF An and every other idea flew out the window, and for the rest of the saving-up period, I knew he was what I wanted. I worried a little bit during the wait, but never regretted the decision, and once he arrived, he was perfect.

When saving for my tied-for-second dolls, I didn't vacillate at all. I knew what I wanted and ordered them right away when I had the money. I had the same little moments of worry during the wait, but again, once they got here and I saw them in person, I couldn't have been more in love.

Now I'm saving for my first girl (and first SD)-- I know the company, I know the resin colour, I know the size, and I know what I want to order with her, but I am torn between three different face sculpts. Luckily I have plenty of time to figure it out while I save up...

      =^__^=

    16. When my wife and I ordered our first dolls together, she clicked the 'submit order' button and announced we'd finally have dolls.. in 2 months! I was like, WHAT?! I thought they were just ready-made and ready-to-ship. lol I had no idea you had to wait for them to be produced and shipped! I was extremely disappointed but got over it pretty fast. It was holiday season and we had lots of other things to keep us busy until our dolls came.
