Leaving your dolls in the box over a period of time

Oct 1, 2009

    1. My dolls don't stay in their boxes because I have no space for said boxes in my room, so they often sit in a closed cupboard.

I'd really rather have the space to be able to stuff them in their boxes, though.

    2. I do agree with Gwydion.

My dolls stay in their boxes when I'm not home for their own safety, otherwise I'd be worried all the time, but taking them out of the box when I get home, sitting them in their couch and putting them "to sleep" when I go to bed has become a cute little daily routine and a way to make sure that I do have contact with them everyday.

    3. I've never stored my dolls in their boxes, I may have to shortly as I'm sending some out for face ups though, my shelves will be bare :(

    4. I remember the first time I moved with my doll, I left her out until the last moment, so I could still play with her. She got so dirty from all the dust being kicked up from places I never could reach to clean, and newspaper print from packing things and having to move her out of the way all the time. She was filthy. Now when I know were moving I pack away all my dolls first and unpack them almost last, to keep them clean.
Don't feel bad about having your doll packed away, you'll be happy you did in the long run.

    5. I used to box them up every night but now I just have too many. I have 3 Sitting on a chair in my bedroom and 2 on my dresser. If I'm going out of the country I do box them up or if the room is being decorated. If I'm out for the weekend I'll call home and ask for them to be checked on, to make sure they aren't sitting in sunlight or anything.

    6. Vienna - an msd - is the only doll I keep on show, purely because his box was so mushed up when it was delivered that it was useless to even try and save it. He's kept under a desk on a small shelf away from any sunlight. It's nice having him there since its directly opposite my bed, and he's small enough to be able to stand under there safely and securely.
Holly is kept in her box next to Vienna. Which no, I dont feel bad for and dont think anyone should... it keeps her safe and I still get to take her out and enjoy her.
Killian is kept safe in a dollcarrier, and is kept company by Cotton's head. If I had a box for either of them they would probably be in it.

    7. If I know I won't be using my dolls for an extended period of time, I place them back in their boxes for safe keeping. I don't feel bad, I actually sort of feel a little better. Instead of sitting on my shelf, they are safely kept in their boxes, not gathering dust.

    8. I'm gonna have to agree with like everyone in here. Lol.
I don't keep my girl in her box now a days. Only 'cause I don't feel like it. But she is on my shelf away from the sun. So she is good there. And I don't have any siblings or pets around to pester her, so, she's fine. But I used to keep her in her box all the time when I first got her. Only taking her out here and there. But I was fine with it. 'Cause I left her in there 'cause I was sharing a room with someone at the time. And that person was very unpredictable. So, she was safest in there. Lol.
But i don't think it's nothing to feel bad about. You're not doing anything wrong. o uo)b

    9. I'd definitely feel guilty about leaving my girls in boxes for an extended period pf time but I can sympathize with your reasons. Moving can be a hectic process and you don't often get the time to completely unpack everything right away.

    10. I've had my girl for a brief time, but she's actually in her box right now! LOL I haven't cleared a spot for her on my bookshelf yet, but I plan too this weekend. I figure I love her so much and I spent so much to have her, why not enjoy her? I'd like to have her out where she can be seen and loved on frequently. I haven't taken her out of the box too much at this moment because she's naked and i would feel safer if she had clothes on to cover that pretty white skin.:)

    11. Three of mine are currently living in their boxes, which is a new thing for me. I just needed to put them away or I'd have ended up selling them perhaps, and they'd be really hard to replace!!! I don't feel guilty about it at all, I feel like they're in some kind of science fiction "stasis pod" or something. My fellow geeks will know what I mean! XD

    12. I agree with this so much. Don't feel guilty! Look at it this way, their boxes are keeping them safe!

    13. Usually when my tastes change and I no longer have interest for a doll, I place it in a box and pretty much it stays there for a long time.
      Or when I get a new doll, if it's not complete or it does not have a face up, it stays in it's box. I feel they are most safe in the box.>_<;

Only dolls that are complete and that I still have interest for are placed either in the curio or on top of my bookshelf. :3

    14. Unfortunately, I don't have room to keep my boxes. I've only hung on to the smaller Puki boxes and the larger, nice boxes, like Lati and Doll n Doll. My Dollzone boxes practically fell apart anyway, so I tossed them away. Personally, I wish I had better enclosed space for my dolls, because I DO feel guilty that they're sitting out, getting dusty!

    15. I don't leave mine packed up--I don't even have all their boxes anymore. I have shelves they hang out on. I wouldn't personally want to leave mine in boxes--I like to be able to see them, and actually feel more comfortable about their safety where I can see them--That's just a weird thing with me, though. A box should really be safe enough. I'm just one of those people who likes to fuss over them.

However, it sounds like your situation is temporary? Until after the move? In that case I wouldn't worry about it if keeping them packed up is keeping them safe through all the bustle of moving out.

    16. When we were packing to move, I did. I put everyone except Teacup and Al back in their boxes early on in the process and they stayed that way for a good couple of months. They were among the first thing I packed and the last things I unpacked, because I wanted them safely out of harm's way.

I don't think any of them cared very much. I didn't hear any complaints. ;)

    17. Hm... Interesting stuff I'm hearing from everyone! ^_^

I don't have any BJDs yet, so I suppose I can't really give my opinion...but I think that putting your doll in the box is a safe thing to do, so your doll won't be damaged or collect dust while you are busy.

    18. my girl has to stay in her box when I'm not playing with her so my cats don't get to her.
I leave her with clothes and a wig on, though, since I've never really had a problem with staining.
it doesn't bother me... at least I know she's safe that way :3

    19. My dolls live in their boxes 90% of the time. I take them out a few times a week, admire them, dress them, pose them - then back to box prison they go.

I'm not very sentimental about objects. When something is important to me, that doesn't mean I have to constantly be able to see it or touch it. Besides the dolls, most of my most valuable and/or beloved keepsakes also stay safely put away.

    20. I agree with this because I totally understand the doll collecting dust or sunlight touching them but what's the point in having a $500+ doll if it's going to sit in a box all day? I display my dolls in a corner of my room where the sunlight doesn't hit and I usually clean them once a month to prevent dust to accumulate (not only that I play with my dolls quite a bit ^^; ) But I can understand people leaving their dolls in their boxes because it really is the safest place for them when it comes down to it and they are just dolls, not like they'll suffocate in there ;)
