Leaving your dolls in the box over a period of time

Oct 1, 2009

    1. Heh. I don't worry about cardboard rubbing them. Because you see, I have all these weird little pillows I can't bring myself to throw out either --

Kyrie Arashi - what sculpt is your boy R.B.? I don't recognize "L". That's such a sweet, sad expression he has in your sig!

    2. I believe I'd feel a bit guilty if my kids were stuck in their boxes a lot..but heck I mean you do what you have to do to keep them safe while you are moving right? So I think it's fine.

My kids of course don't even know what their box is like anymore.. -laughs- They come out of it and I put it up in the closet and forget all about it..but my Soom MD often travels in his zipper pillow..

    3. My dolls are always out of their boxes! I feel like it'd be a waste keeping them hidden... Unless of course if I had to move places...

    4. In your situation, when you are moving, by all means keep the dolls in their boxes, wigless and nude (or wearing white underwear). Having them boxed as such will prevent wigcaps and clothing from staining them, and they will be very safe from breakage if they're in their boxes.

Even after you've moved and set up your room and shelves it may be better to have their boxes closeby just in case you have to leave for some period of time. I live in California and am subject to earthquakes (like Japan) so I try to keep my dolls safe. Some doll owners and doll sculptors like to have their dolls sleep in special cushion lined drawers usually meant for clothes. The doll designer Anu, who creates and designs the Dollshes, has drawers where her dolls are put to sleep. I think its a great idea that keeps the dolls accessible and safe at the same time ^_^

One good thing after storing your dolls in their boxes for a while is the moment when you take them out again. For me, it's like getting a new doll and falling in love all over again.

    5. I don't feel guilty about it, but it is a shame when you have to leave them in their box. When I first got my doll he lived in his box because the house was always really really dusty and I couldn't do anything to fix that. I would only take him out for a little while to see him every now and then.

But now he can sit around all he wants in my new place! the room he's in has the window covered because all I do is sleep in there. now that i dont have to worry about him I can feel free to appreciate him.

    6. I keep my dolls in their boxes when they aren't out hanging out with me, but they aren't completely sealed up - I put the bottom of the box into the top of the box. (Which is why I don't like Volks' new boxes :p) My crew lie in there just like they come, between two pillows - although always wigged and dressed. I figure the boxes were made to hold them and offer some protection, but I prefer to be able to just lift the top pillow and take them out. If I haven't brought anybody out in a week or so, I start to feel a little guilty, though ^^;.

    7. I have no problem with leaving them in boxes. What's bad is when they just sit around you room for so long they get dusty XD

    8. I like having him sit on my bed looking like he is sleeping under the covers, or in his little pillow bed that I made in the corner if u can't have them out (unless of course u r traveling with them) I feel like its kinda waste of their beauty but thats just me, not that I am good at showing mine off I only have one and my mom doesn't even know he exists.

    9. I feel guilty about leaving my dolls in there boxes only because i haven't had them out in over 7 weeks as my parents house (my room) is having building work at the moment. So i'm gald that they are in there boxes at the moment.

    10. I dunno. I never keep mine in their box. They arrive in it and never see it again. But that's more or less because I like seeing them out and looking at them, even if I'm not playing with them at all. I'm not against the box thing at all, however I do feel it makes an "out of sight, out of mind" sorta situation.

    11. I had to go away for a few weeks just recently and had someone stay at my house to take care of my animals. I did not put my dolls back in their boxes. They went to my daughter's house for a visit with her dolls. everyone was happy about it. I don't like to pack them away unless I absolutely have to.

    12. I had to pack up Frigg, my Dark Skin Cocori, almost immediatly after I recieved her. She is not finished, and she has been left in the box for several months now. Mainly because she is not ready to be 're-born' yet as I have not had the money to send her to get face-uped and tattooed. I also had to move across Canada, and she is now on the other side, staying with a freind, in her box, until I can have her sent out.

I feel rather bad for it, but there are several reasons why I have done it. #1, she is not finished yet and it felt weird having her sitting there, demanding I hurry up and send her off (except the artist I first had for her backed out. I only recently found a new artist to do her). Then there was the move, and I wanted her to be protected from all of the mess.

Just see it as a 're-new' moment in time. While she has been in he box, I have made it a point to think about her and what I can do with her. Her character and design have advanced drastically because of the 'mystery box', like imagining what your christmas present is all wrapped up in that shiny paper. So while your boys are in their boxes, imagine that they are... oh this will sound cheesy... perhaps a buterfly or something, and they are changing inside the box. Obviously if you haven't taken them out a lot recently, perhaps you need to insert a new bit of 'pep' or look at them in a new angle. The 'Mystery Box' could help you do that.

Just sayin'. That's what has happened to me.

Otherwise though, my dolls are never in their boxes. I have furniture and a room set up that they hang out in. Mind you they will be left there for days or weeks if my life is busy, but I at least enjoy that they are THERE. Don't feel guilty that sometimes you don't give them un-devided attention constently. Sometimes you are just in the mood, and other times you are not.

    13. I leave my doll in his box when I'm too busy with work and stuff. I just don't see the point of leaving him out in the open where he can get shifted by anyone cleaning the house and placed in an unsafe spot or exposed to the sun. I'd be horrified if I came home to find him damaged. I think the box is really the best place to keep these dolls.

    14. I leave my dolls in their boxes (well, Muniya and Saif share top and bottom of a Dollzone box) when I'm too busy and where there's too much junk on my desk for them to sit down next to me.

    15. Well...

My apartment is extremely sunny and breezy and awesome. While this is great for when I'm doing faceups or mods, it's not a great palce to just leave my dolls sitting out, there's really NO place where the sun won't hit them. I actually keep most of my dolls in a big padded trunk when I'm not playing with them or doing stuff with them. This is the safest thing for them, and I'd never feel guilty over it.

I actually mentioned how I keep my dolls in their 'downtime' to a fellow doll person and they seemed horrified, like I was being a bad doll owner for keeping them 'shut up'... yea that kinda pissed me off....

But whatever, my dolls my business :)

    16. They get left in their boxes whenever I have a lot of work to do. It's a space-saver as well.

    17. My girls don't go into their boxes unless I have to travel with them. I adore them and they're my muses, so they get to stay on their shelf most of the time. But don't feel bad about putting your lovelies in a box when you need to! It keeps them safe and sound and unmussed.

    18. I love having my guys out. I put up shelves in my room so they are the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night. I like to be able to admire them at all time. I figure I spent so much money I should be able to enjoy them. Plus my room is pretty dark so no harm comes to them.

    19. My dolls spend a lot of time in their boxes because I have huskies and they leave hair everywhere, and might develop a fondness for eating resin. One day I'll have to put up a high shelf for dollies to live on. I hate having them in boxes a lot of the time.

    20. The biggest justification I have for my doll is that she's like a child, only I can leave her in a box for months at a time and no one will get mad at me for it.
So I think it's alright. As long as you're taking care of her and not just tossing her in the box with her wig and everything so that it gets all wrinkled.
