1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

looking for companies similar to dream of doll

Mar 7, 2022

    1. Hi, I hope this question is okay and not in the wrong place but I was wondering if there are companies with sd sized dolls who look similar to dream of doll. I really liked their fullsets and sculpts. Of course I’m not looking for something identical just with a similar aesthetic. I know it’s possible to buy dolls second hand but it would be nice to follow a company who is still active. Any ideas would be appreciated :)

    2. Wow, that's a tough question. I really feel like Dream of Doll had a style and aesthetic all their own. I haven't ever seen a company that has come out that immediately brought those DOD vibes back... I could be totally wrong though, I hope someone has a great suggestion for you.

I have never owned a DOD personally, but the ones I've seen in person from friends...I do remember they have very exaggerated features. Big ears lol... very sloping droopy eyes for their dreaming versions. They were more on the angular side. Only company that comes to mind for me is Crobi. They have a lot of dreamy eyed boys with pretty bold features... but even then I don't think they come super close. I'd be interested to hear other suggestions. I miss DOD (even though I never had an inclination to get one) but they definitely were very unique and beautiful dolls.

    3. I feel pretty much the same, and it has been a reoccurring discussion among my friends and I. That aesthetic DoD had, from their overall doll design to the full-sets, was never there again. I mean to this day I think they are the only BJD company to release outfits that were so iconic, even human cosplays were sold of them :abambi:

I would also say the best option is to look for companies that still have a bit of an old-timey aesthetic. Like Crobidoll, or Luts (even though their newest dolls are not like that anymore either).
Funny enough, some of the 1/3 Myou Doll heads gave me this feeling again...like this guy looks like a weird combination between a Luts El and a DOD head whose name I just forgot: BJD MYOU DOLL

    4. @Dybbuk I like their sleepy eyed dolls the most so thanks for the suggestion! I never heard of crobi before will check them out :)

@Ara I remember seeing the cosplays of dod before I actually saw the dolls. So beautiful and unique. And just looked the doll up from myou and totally get what you mean. Maybe I order one from the company in the future
