Lumedoll 30cm discussion part 1

Sep 28, 2010

    1. I noticed with my new doll her legs sort of buckles when she stands. Maybe a bit of wire in the knee might stop it? Or maybe depending on what clothes shes wearing, like tights or socks might help. Your Aline is so gorgeous, I love the contrast of her skin with the white fluffy wig.

    2. I can finally join this thread instead of just lurking. :) My little Blaze entered Canada Customs today! I'm hoping he won't be held up there too long, and with any luck he'll be home by the end of the week. *fingers crossed* He's in the tan resin colour and is coming with blue eyes. His name is Liam. :aheartbea lol I'm stupidly excited for this little guy to get here!

    3. SapphireStargazer- hope he gets to you fast! The tan is a lovely color.
I decided to buy my new girl a wig and found that Parabox has some cute clothes. I have no idea how well they would fit, but I might buy one of the hoodies in the future.
I ordered two wigs from Parabox and a pair of shoes and dome cap from DDE. Even though I have yet to finish buying face-up supplies, she will soon feel a bit more complete.

    4. Thanks Leo Pheonix! Canada Customs has been holding Liam hostage for nearly a week. :( I'm hoping he'll clear Customs soon because I'm getting totally impatient! Maybe he'll get here this week. *fingers crossed*
What kind of shoes did you order from DDE? I got Liam's wig and wig cap from Facets, and I've got some Ken clothes I'm hoping he can wear, but he's definitely going to need shoes at some point.

    5. That sucks that your boys is being held at customs SapphireStargazer. I hope he arrives soon!

I have a little Koit elf (slim body)…and Ken clothes will fit perfectly. :daisy

As far are shoes…check out Newline. There are a few action figure shops that carry some stock. It's all military pretty much but maybe something might work….

Here's a silly pic of my little unpainted guy wearing vintage Ken clothes & boots from Newline. New Ken clothes also fit.

    6. Thanks mdonline03! I'm actually familiar with Newline and I wondered if their shoes would fit. It's good to know that they do. :) I kind of like the biker boots for my guy. These lace-up ones also look pretty nice. One of his little outfits is "urban camo" and his style is definitely 'tough guy' so anything from Newline would be fine for him, I think. Liam (Blaze) is on the slim body too, so it's also good to know Ken stuff actually will fit him.
hehehe your little guy is super cute! Is that an SD shoe? :XD:

    7. During the room sales at Dollism, I picked up a pair of shoes for Dolf (Blaze on the muscle body) from The Doll Peddler. The fit perfectly, but unfortunately, there was no identifying info on the bag so I've no idea what brand/company they were from. And so far, I've not been able to find any Ken clothes that fit decently on the muscle body.

    8. SapphireStargazer.. Thank you….hehe…yes that is an SD shoe. Anywho…I just received those black lace up shoes and they look really good in person. I ordered my stuff from Monkey Depot & Cotswold Collectables. Originally I had emailed my order to Newline and never heard back…checking other boards it seems the owner is often traveling. I also ordered Newline overalls (fits super cute), western shirt (too big/using as sort of "coat"), cowboy hat (too small/fits too high on head), newsboy cap (very tight fit/only fits without wig).

Iron Dog - I'll check out Doll Peddler for shoes. Maybe something will pop out.
if you have the Muscle body…I don't know if the Ken clothes will fit. They are kind of perfect on the slim and I'm not sure how different the measurements are. But maybe for example Newline clothes might work for your boy - because well, the shirts absolutely swim on the slim body. It's a shame because they are really well made and I really like the stuff.

For wigs…size 4 from facets seemed to fit the best although it was some work to get it on. I think it's his very round head shape. Size 3/4 was too small, 4/5 was too big. But after all the fiddling I've done with wigs…I think I actually like him better bald.:XD:

    9. mdonline03: I have a Koit on the slim body, but he can only wear the shirts for Ken as he's got slightly modded Soom Yrie legs from the knees down (Gunari is my half-dragon) and there isn't any pants that will fit over his very large dragon feet. There is quite a bit of difference in the chest/arms/thighs of the two body versions. Enough so that Ken clothes won't fit the muscle body unless there's a lot of stretch to the fabric (which there usually isn't).

As far as wigs go, I'm not much help as I made the wigs for both Gunari and Dolf. I've no idea what size they are as I adjusted the pattern until it fit them.

    10. That's really good to know about the black lace-up Newline shoes, mdonline03. I may have to order a pair of those for my little man. :) I see a few pairs of shoes from Ruby Red Galleria on DDE that might be the right size. Not going to worry too much about shoes at the moment, though. I'm still waiting for Canada Customs to release my guy so he can get home already.

    11. Ahhhh, Canada Customs. Aren't they a treat? I hate when they charge me customs fees on stuff I already own *fumes*. I got dinged for $30 when Dolf came back to me from a face-up artist in the US (I'd sent the whole doll as she'd never seen a Lume in person and had him insured for full value for his trips to/from the US). What kills me is when a package sits in the Mississauga sorting/depot for days when I could literally hop on public transit and go pick up the item easier than waiting for them to deliver the package to me.

    12. I only ever seem to get dinged for fees on stuff coming in from the USA. I've been pretty lucky with my Asian imports. :XD:
Liam has been "detained" in Ville St-Laurent since 23 September, which I find highly unusual as the Customs depot in Ville St-Laurent is usually far more prompt than that. Our one in Dieppe is usually pretty quick too. The slower ones in my experience are Richmond and Mississauga. Gahhh...that would be frustrating, knowing something's within public transit distance from you. That would drive me mad. At least I know I can't get to Ville St-Laurent on the bus! Dieppe, NB is less than 2 hours from where I live, but it's still not close enough to go there on a whim....so I just have to try and exercise some patience.
As for faceups, the artist I want to paint Liam is in the States too. I'd really like him blushed, so I might end up sending the whole doll instead of just the head/torso parts. Here's hoping I don't have to pay Customs twice... :shudder

    13. The face-up artist I use most (Angel Toast) is in North Carolina and I usually put on the declaration form that it is a doll/doll parts and being sent for repairs. Angel Toast usually puts repaired doll/doll parts on the declaration form and that will typically keep me from getting nailed. Not always, because Canada Post is like that *shrugs*.

When I see on tracking that my package has left Mississauga, I can expect to either see my package that day or the very next one (assuming it doesn't leave on a Friday *rolls eyes*). I have had a package show up at my door before I even leave for work (I have a 10 walk to work) which is both cool and frustrating as yea! dolly! but boo! I can't open said dolly without being REALLY late for work.

    14. *flails* My little man finally got released from Customs and his package is out for delivery today! :celebrate I'll be at work when the letter carrier gets to my place, but he'll leave me a notice card. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up the package after work today, if they return it to our local Post Office, and if I can get there before the Post Office closes. With any luck, it'll work out according to the plan but, if not, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get him. :(

Iron_Dog, My two favourite faceup artists both live in the States; one in Tennessee and the other in Minnesota. I've never had to pay Customs on anything coming back from either of them but, then again, I've only ever sent heads and we've marked it as "doll parts" on the Customs declaration forms. Yeahhh...Canada Post and Canada Customs both march to the beat of their own respective drums, I think. I really think Customs fees depend a lot on the agent who inspects the package, to be honest. As for packages getting to me, I never get one before I leave for work because my letter carrier doesn't get to my house until at least 10:45a.m. each day and I'm already at work by then. I have about 15-minute walk to work, so I think if I ever did get a package before I left for my office, I'd have to wait till after work to open it, too. My most frustrating thing is when I pick up a package from the Post Office at lunch time and have to leave it sit in my office all afternoon. lol

    15. I hope you're able to grab your new boy after work.

And I totally agree that Customs/CanPost work on their own rules with neither following the same set. It's a little frustrating. There's no rhyme or reason either for the way some dolls zip through Customs like greased lightening while others languish there for days and days. It's especially puzzling when you get the package that was held hostage for a long time and there's no sign it was even opened to be inspected. Not that I'm complaining about them NOT opening a package because I quite frankly don't trust them to pack everything back up the way it was, but the large delay would make more sense if they actually opened the package to see what was what.

I did have one package opened by Customs but it was something I ordered from Extreme Restraints and not a doll/doll stuff. I actually giggled like crazy when I saw the slip that they'd opened the package for inspection. I'm sure they see all kinds of things even weirder than what I'd ordered but it still tickled me silly to imagine a newbie on the job opening their very first package and it was a box filled with BDSM toys *falls over laughing*. I so want to use that in a story somehow. Ahhh, writer brain and wild imagination gives me hours of amusement for the most innocuous things.

    16. Liam is here!!! :celebrate

Excuse the crappy cell phone pic. My camera is at work because I was supposed to be shooting photos for a press release today but the meeting got cancelled. My boss rescheduled it for tomorrow, and she told me just to leave my equipment there at the office. I'm a little annoyed about that because I wanted to take all the photos of Liam, but anyway... I'll make up for it on the weekend. ;)

      Here's my new little man:

Liam - Lumedoll Blaze (iPhone photo)
      by SapphireStargazer, on Flickr

He is wearing a Monique wig, size 4, in the style "James" and colour brown-black. I got it from Facets. I got him a wig cap as well which, after reading about how size 4 wigs might be a tight fit, I thought perhaps I wouldn't need. It turns out that buying the wig cap was a good choice in the end, because he certainly does need it since this wig is a bit loose on him without it. :)

Also...look at him rocking the Ken clothes! :XD: These are clothes for "modern" Ken and they fit him pretty well. The pants are a little big, but not drastically so.

He's all, "Check me out. I'm an action figure!" :XD:

    17. Wow…Liam looks great…so hip in his camo pants…He totally looks like an action figure.:) And the wig looks great too. Glad he made it home.

    18. Thanks mdonline03! I'm so thrilled to discover how well he fits into Ken clothes because they're so easy to get. haha I predict Liam is going to have a huge wardrobe. :XD:

My only problem with him is that his head cap really doesn't fit his head properly. The pieces of his head don't seem to match up. It's not really a problem because his wig cap keeps his head pieces together, but he could never just go around bald because his head cap would always be falling off lol. Other than that, he's great. He'll need to be restrung - or at least have his stringing tightened - and I think I'm going to hot-glue suede him, as his little knees don't want to stay bent. Nothing wrong with him that doesn't have an easy fix. ;)

I love the colour of this resin, and I'm amazed by the craftsmanship of his tiny eyes. I can't wait to see what he'll look like once his faceup is done. I don't wanna send him away for his faceup so soon, but on the other hand...the sooner I send him, the sooner I get him back. :XD:

    19. Pretty much yep and….yep…to the things you posted. My little guys head cap is loose too…(I think he had a bit of putty on the bottom section to keep it sealed but I fiddle with him so much that it's all worn off) and was wanting a wig + cap to hold it together. I think I just keep having bad luck with wigs - so bald for him…lol. Plus his ears are so dang cute. Don't want to cover them.

Being able to fit really inexpensive, readily available Ken sized clothes is a DREAM (coming from an SD collector). I feel like I can buy everything; $5.00 here, $3.00 there…amazing. I know what you mean about not wanting to send him away. I think there's so much detail in the face that it really can stand on it's own or with minimal work. It's been a month since I've had my little guy and I'm so used to him now but he's slated for a full body blush and face up; but yeah - I'm not in any hurry to send my guy away either.:)

    20. Just a quick note that I am thrilled to have found some shoes that fit Lumedoll 1/6 females! I shall post up some photos soon of how well they look. I got them from a place called rubyredgalleria online. The styles are mostly quite child like. My wife originally bought them for her Enyo and Modigili so that's a good enough guide to what else size shoes will fit these girls :)
